My 9 Fave Style Pantry Looks And Why I Love Each

I love Blogger Folake Kuye Huntoon of Style Pantry‘s fashion aesthetic. She plays with color and sticks to clean lines while still being daring and bold with her selection of pieces.

She keeps it simple. Her daily looks are usually defined by just three pieces. Each are obviously carefully selected for maximum impact and they work so well! It’s so effortlessly chic! Love it!

She is also, in my opinion, the most replicated blogger out here because on any given day, as I peruse my fave sites, social media pages or other places on line, people are ripping her style and recreating her looks. Some enterprising online retailers even rip her images to sell recreations of her looks. She has over 700,000 Facebook followers an dover 28,000 followers on Instagram because she brings fresh looks every day. That is amazing.

I guess I am joining in on the fun. I pulled 9 of my fave looks and curated pieces so you can recreate the look yourself for under $100! Look:

I love everything about this look down to the satin pink pumps. The nautical or military style blazer is a great frame. The grew cowneck shirt underneath adds depth and the distressed denim with the cutout says “I don’t take myself too seriously!” Love!

Yellow pants is hard for anyone to pull off but she smartly paired them with a conservative navy blue fitted sweater over top a crisp white shirt. It’s the perfect juxtaposing. Swoon!

I am a fan of tunic tops because I think they flatter any shape. The orange belted shirt could be a dress for someone short. The military camouflage printed pants are the perfect balance to the brightness of that top. She then “upscales” (is that a word?) the entire look with navy patent leather pumps. I also love the bangle accessories and rose gold watch.

This wrap dress is everything. The geometric lines weaving through it gives it flow and personality on its own. It needs little accessorizing outside the chunky gold statement necklace and simple black strappy sandals.

I spend most of my life in casual clothing. I love oversized comfortable sweaters and that is why I admired this aquamarine loose-fitting cable sweater that she wore with some dark denim cuffed skinny jeans with orange heels. Smart!

This skirt is hard to find but the rainbow colors make me smile. This skirt has a personality on its own and that’s why it was right to pair it with a simple boyfriend collar shirt and of course, yellow pumps to make it pop even more!

What a no-nonsense look! I’ve been on the hunt for a yellow blazer as it is the most appropriate color for Spring which is on the horizon. I really dig the brown pants and brown leather peep toe booties with the chains. It’s a bad ass outfit for sure!

The African girl married to an Island man in me cannot get enough of this look. She has a bright painting on her dress that I would want to hang in my living room. I have to go back to her blog to see who makes these awe-inspiring sandals because they are fire. That’s all I have to say.

Big red Palazzo pants are tough for anyone to pull off especially short girls like I am, but I love them on her. The off the shoulder peasant top is sizzling on its own too. Then when the two items connect, electrifying!!. And the oversized hoops are the ideal icing on the cake! Oh and the crimson lip. Can’t forget that!

Which is your fave!? Find me on social and let me know!

Yes, Game of Thrones Fans are Seriously Naming Their Kids After Characters (INFOGRAPHIC)

As we’ve shared before, it is a fact that fans of the hit HBO show Game of Thrones have begun naming their children after characters such as Khaleesi, Arya, Theon, Kit, Roslin, Sansa, Tyrion, Shae, Daenerys and Renly.

Names.org came up with an interactive graphic with 13 Baby Names Inspired by Game of Thrones. You can see the number of babies named after each character by year. As the series gained in popularity, the baby naming increased as well.

Just to show you how life can sometimes imitate art, in 2010, the Social Security Administration reports that zero babies were named Khaleesi compared to 370 baby girls with that name in 2013.

Similarly, in 2010, there were 273 babies named Arya, compared to 1890 babies named  in 2016.

You can access Name.org’s interactive graphic HERE and catch the static one below:

Kylie Jenner Just Shared a Close Up Photo of Stormi Webster and She’s Gorgeous!

It was a week after make up mogul and  reality TV star Kylie Jenner complained about not using Snapchat much anymore that the social media app’s stock to fell more than 7 percent (a loss of $1.3 billion in market value).  The youngest of the Jenner/Kardashian clan  has redeemed her love for the video sharing platform (and hopefully some stock value) after sharing a sweet video of her gorgeous one month old baby girl, Stormi Webster on Snapchat on Friday, March 2.

The Life of Kylie star’s quick vid was captioned, “my pretty girl” while daddy, rapper Travis Scott, shared his own version of the same photo of baby sucking on a purple pacifier all bundled and snug in an off white furry blanket.

Stormi’s closeup pic debuted a few days after her cousin Chicago West appeared on Snapchat.  No wonder the fans of Kim Kardashian West and Jenner are feuding. These coincidentally-timed reveals give the fans a lot of fodder to play with.  It appears, along with Dream Kardashian, the girl cousins may grow and be close the same way Penelope Disick and North West are buddies.

The sisters dismissed it in Twitter responses.

So fucking lame!!! Kim and I are saying how much it has changed and why the divide. We are sisters, best friends and most of all supporters of each other. Bizarre https://t.co/4PowCoMLsC

10 Unique Easter Egg Hunt Ideas You Might Not Have Thought Of

Easter is around the corner. If you are in the hunt for new or different ways to have fun with the kids on Easter weekend, here are 10 unique and innovative ideas compliments of SheKnows:

1. Easter bunny tracks

A full-blown Easter egg hunt guided by the Easter Bunny himself? Surely there could be nothing more adorable. The kids will love waking up on Easter morning to find that the Easter Bunny has left them a personalized note and a few bunny tracks pointing them in the direction of the hidden eggs. These cute printables make setting up the bunny track hunt a breeze.

2. Easter egg garden

For very young children, this is as cute as it comes. If they’re too little to hunt well in the yard, you can make your own Easter egg garden that “grows” plastic eggs instead. Placing candy-filled Easter egg flowers in the grass or sand will make it easy for even the littlest ones to find their treats.

3. Indoor egg hunt

If you live in a part of the country where spring hasn’t sprung yet, all hope is not lost. You can turn a cold or rainy Easter day into an adventure when you tell your kids that they’re going to hunt for all their eggs and Easter trinkets inside the house. To make the indoor egg hunt even more unique, try hiding the eggs in a trail or with clues leading to one giant Easter basket.

4. Golden egg hunt

Little mateys at that pirate-loving age will get a kick out of this specialized Easter egg hunt. When kids know there is “buried treasure” involved — like a one-of-a-kind golden egg left behind by the Easter Bunny — they’re likely to take the hunt a little more seriously. Bonus points for putting some booty (read: money) inside or attached to the golden egg.

5. Letter hunt

Learning can be fun, right? For younger kids who are just learning to spell and read, they’ll enjoy hunting for Easter eggs that each contain a letter to spell out a hidden message. Kids can work together to find the letter-filled eggs and put together the Easter message (“Some bunny loves you,” for example) to earn their Easter prize.

6. Easter egg decoder

This is a great one for a larger group, since kids will need to be broken up into teams. Teams of three or four can hunt to find as many mismatched eggs as they can (where the wrong-colored halves of plastic eggs have been put together). Once the eggs have been found, teams can take apart and reassemble the right-colored halves of the eggs. The first team to “unscramble” their mismatched eggs gets a big, ol’ Easter basket filled with candy.

7. Kid-guided hunt

For any kid who loves to pull a fast one on their parents, they’ll be thrilled to be put in charge of the Easter egg hunt for the day. Ask your kids to hide a basket of candy-filled eggs around the yard and watch as you try your best to find them. Any eggs that aren’t found within a certain time limit — say, 10 minutes — the kids get to keep and eat.

8. Scavenger list

This one’s for elementary school and older kids who are looking for a little challenge: Make over your traditional Easter egg hunt using a scavenger hunt checklist. You can task kids with finding a variety of different objects hidden around the yard (like four blue eggs, six yellow eggs, two chocolate eggs and a chocolate Easter bunny) before time is up.

9. Exercise scavenger hunt

Kids have a lot of energy to burn — we know this much is true. So, if your kiddos have been begging for Easter candy all day long, why not make them work for it? Hide sports-themed Easter eggs that contain an exercise instruction along with a candy treat. Kids will have to do 10 jumping jacks, run a lap around the yard or jog in place before they can move on to the candy in the next egg.

10. Glow-in-the-dark hunt

This one might require a little patience, but it is so worth the wait. If you can get your kids to hold off on their Easter candy extravaganza for most of the day, then the reward will be even sweeter — an Easter egg hunt to find glow-in-the-dark eggs is perfect for older kids looking for a thrill.

11. Easter egg piñata

Or how about you forgo the logistics of an egg hunt altogether and just hit some stuff with a stick? Buying an adorable Easter egg piñata — or making your own — is ideal for smaller kids who may not understand how to hunt for eggs yet, as well as older kids who just want to do something different this year. To make things even more interesting, try your hand at mini piñatas so you can make a special candy-filled creation for each kid (to destroy).

That Time Beyonce Decided to Become an Influencer Like The Rest of Us

I think I saw Kimberly Foster, creator and Editor in Chief  of For Harriet first tweet about how Beyonce is currently behaving like an Instagram Influencer like the rest of us with her recent posts. The Queen B is getting prepared to get in shape for her headlining of the annual California dessert music festival Coachella by going vegan for 44 days.

But she isn’t going alone. She invited some of her 112 Million friends who follow her on Instagram to come along to the journey. She tweeted out a photo of a meal and then another of her with her dancers with the caption,  “44 days until Coachella!! Vegan Time!! Click the link in my bio to join me!”

When you click the link, you are taken to a landing page which invites you to sign up. After signing up, you answer a series of questions about your appetite size, cooking habits, time allotment for prepping meals, dietary restrictions and whether you are cooking for yourself or a family. Based on your answers, the algorithm comes up with a series of vegan recipes that you can make  for $14 per month or$99 per year. That’s not bad for a full body transformation for me and my entire family.

And that…ladies and gentlemen is what we call “influencer marekting!” Get it! Bey! Flex those muscles, mama!

Why You Wash Newborn Clothes You Get From Your Baby Shower

One of the last nesting chores that moms-to-be have to do before the arrival of baby is the washing and folding of all the baby’s new clothes.

The reason you wash all of the clothes your newborn will wear for the earliest months of her life is that they have very sensitive skin. New clothes sometimes have chemical residue on them from processing, packaging and shipping. Also, different grubby hands man-handle the clothes in stores before you pluck them off the shelves or racks. Babies’ skin could break out easily if any residue or agents aren’t washed out of them before you put the clothes on them.

With all of my kids, I relied on Dreft which is one of several specially formulated gentler detergents.

It has a light scent and was great for preparing all their towels, blankets, bedding and clothing for when they would arrive. Dreft has been a parent staple for years and so has Ivory Snow. I know that since I last gave birth, that there has been several other companies to spring up providing soap just for babies.

After washing, you have to organize and arrange the clothing in the baby’s nursery, wardrobe, drawers and closet. Check out the BabyTalk with Bellyitch video I did years ago, back in 2012, with tips on how to prep our baby’s clothing in the nursery before the baby arrives:

You Won’t Believe Which Natural Pregnant Lady Thing Khloe Kardashian Is Criticized For Now

When you’re a Jenner or a Kardashian, you really cannot catch a break as Khloe Kardashian learned when she did the most natural thing most expecting women do: cradle her bump.

Serious.  People are criticizing the Good American Apparel company co-founder for being so emotionally connected to the tiny human she is incubating that she  *gasps* dares to touches his temporary home, her baby bump.  Kardashian addressed the critics in a tweet this week:

“People are very opinionated about my bump. I choose to cradle my bump because it’s MINE,” Kardashian wrote in a tweet posted on Wednesday, February 28.  “I’ve waited for this VERY short moment for YEARS. I have only months to enjoy this phase in my life, so I will touch my bump and love my bump as often as I choose. Mommy loves you baby!”

She got about 1,000 or so kind responses and then took some time to personally reply back to the kind tweeters and well-wishers.

Whether she is posing for the red carpet or caught by the paparazzi, she should not be attacked for being maternal. I assume most of the hate came from people who have never experienced pregnancy before, either as a mother or a close relative to a pregnant person.  It’s because of these occasional barbs from the public that so many people in the public eye elect to try to conceal their pregnancy for the duration. Example: Kylie Jenner.

Kardashian and her beau NBA player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tristan Thompson, are expecting their first child, a baby boy.

5 Hacks So Your Next Long Car Ride With Baby Is Peaceful

Taking long car trips with a newborn can be a challenge. Denise Stern, founder of Let Mommy Sleep, the country’s leading Baby Nurse and Postpartum Care service, is revealing a few fool-proof tips as you prepare your baby for travel

  1. Practice at home! Many times babies are not used to sleeping in a travel bed or pack-n-play.Put baby in travel bed or pack-n-play for naptime at home in weeks leading up to the trip.
  2. Keep sleep routine as close to home as possible to help baby feel safe and secure.  If weather permits, dress baby in pajamas/sleepsack/swaddle blanket that he/she is accustomed to.  If renting a full-sized travel crib from a hotel, bring bedsheets and breathable bumper from baby’s crib at home to recreate familiar sleep environment. Sing the same bedtime songs you sing at home and read favorite books.
  3. Try to stay on baby’s time. If possible, try to keep naptimes and bedtimes as close to the same schedule as at home.  When traveling across time zones, gradually adjust baby’s bedtime. Some parents like to travel at night so baby can sleep and wake up in destination refreshed. This can lead to an exhausting first day of the trip. If you can “tag-team” with your partner by alternating napping and caring for baby during the first day, then traveling at night could be a possibility.
  4. While it is tempting to let a sleeping baby spend the night in a Once at the destination, do not rely on carseats for safe sleep. carseat or stroller, carseats can sometimes cause breathing problems in babies. Follow the recommendations of the American Association of Pediatrics and the “Back to Sleep” campaign by creating a safe sleep environment and putting baby on back for sleeping.
  5. Slow it down – You’re on Baby’s Time! Don’t expect to have a jam-packed site seeing schedule. All the new sights, sounds, and experiences are very stimulating and exciting for baby. Baby could get fussy if overstimulated and too exhausted.  Remember that sleep begets sleep. Keeping baby awake longer than his/her bodies need may work for one night or one nap, but fighting against baby’s natural rhythms leads to meltdown. While it is nice to have alone time with your partner, caring for a baby can be even more exhausting than usual when traveling. We like to remind parents to not stay up too late too!

Good luck, parents!

New Edition Ronnie DeVoe’s Twins Have a Branded Online Identity

Like many celebrity babies these days (Alexis Olympia  Ohanian Jr.,Ace Tucker  and others), Twins Ronald DeVoe III and Roman Elijah DeVoe have a joint Instagram with thousands of followers.

The infant boys’ parents are New Edition and BBD original member Ronnie DeVoe and one third of the 90s Gir R&B group Blaque, Shamari DeVoe.

They are quite handsome!!

One of the boys, this one below, looks just like his daddy.

I cannot tell which one he is because the famous parents have chosen to refer to the boys as the DevoeTwins in social media.

They are not sharing their individual names on their page or in any other online references.

A lot of twins, later in life, lament on always being referred to as “twin”, and being denied an individual identity.

I want the DeVoe Twins to have an independent identity. I’m sure they have one at home.

Anyway, this decision to control access to the kids is great for branding the boys. It is similar to how Mariah Careyo and Nick Cannon branded their twins, Morocco and Monroe, as “DemBabies”.

What to Do About This Odd Breastfeeding Problem First-Time Moms Experience

If you are a first time brand new mom who is breastfeeding and might have noticed the breast milk taking on a pinkish or brownish hue, you should watch today’s episode of  The Doctors – what does it mean

During the show, co-host and board-certified OB/GYN Dr. Nita Landry explains.

When a new mom starts to breast feed a lot of blood rushes to the area and sometimes some blood gets into those milk ducts and changes the color of the milk. This is more common with first time moms, it only lasts a few days and it is 100% safe for you to keep giving baby the breast milk.

However, if there is a lot of blood present, or if it is persistent, it could be a sign of infection and you should call your doctor.

Watch the segment below, then catch up on other snippets and some full episodes on the show website here:
