Eva Mendes Adds ‘Sexy Mom’ Flavor to Her NY&CO Collection

IMG_5162-0.png

Eva Mendes has been designing clothes for her New York & Company line for several seasons now, but one recent major life event has since shifted her perspective on what women want to wear: becoming a mother.

E! News caught up with proud new mama to baby Esmeralda and chatted with Mendes about much her new September collection means to her.

“I think that being a mom now myself, I love dressing…not so much like a mom but there is a sexiness in kind of giving into the mom thing and that I’m dressing as an example for a little girl. Like, I’m someone’s example!”

The brunette beauty added, “That’s exciting for me and I make clothes that I think are really beautiful for moms, for all women, but certainly for moms.”

And when asked how she feels about seeing more diversity on the runways at fashion weeks across the globe, Mendes dished, “I don’t think it’s one or the other. I think as long as there is diversity and everyone is represented, that’s pretty rad.”

During her recent interview with Glam Belleza Latina‘s 2015 Fall issue, Mendes shared that she loves getting feedback from her customers and women on social media about her New York & Company collection and her CIRCA Beauty line.

In fact, many have wondered if it’s really her taking the time out to respond to the many comments on her Instagram, to which she answered, “That is 100 percent me. It actually breaks my heart when I can’t respond. I love connecting with women; it’s fun for me.”

That Mendes is a real girls’ girl!

Labor Day: 7 Labor & Delivery Tips for First Time Parents

It’s Labor Day in the US, a day to celebrate the worker, but if you are pregnant and set to deliver your baby soon, you could use this day off to start exploring tips to make your delivery day smoother.

For me, I, like Jessica Alba after me, relied on Hypnobirthing techniques to get me through and still today, three kids later with no plans for more, I STILL use those techniques I learned whenever I have to encounter a painful situation (getting a shot, getting through reps while doing Pilates or weightlifting, when suffering through a bad headache).

Here are 7 other tips and tricks from BabyCenter to consider using to manage through labor pains:

1. Pack in the protein: If you were about to run a long marathon, would you eat only ice chips? No. You need to eat a protein-rich meal. It will give you the stamina needed for labor (plus many hospitals won’t let you eat once you check in anyway). Make a plan to either keep something in the fridge/freezer/cupboard or know where you can go to get your marathon meal.

  1. Don’t fight gravity: Remain upright as long as possible. Walk around or sit up, but don’t lie on your back. (Yes, that’s really me in the pic, before I found out I should be walking around.)
  2. Hydrate thyself: Pack (and use) a water bottle. If you properly hydrate yourself during labor, you’ll increase your energy output by as much as 30%. Also, if you can keep drinking water, you may not need an IV that will really restrict your mobility. That’s when the ice chips and clear liquids can also help.

  3. Breathe using your abdomen: Normal abdominal breathing increases relaxation, which you’re really going to need. Chest and patterned breathing may fool your body into stress mode, and you don’t want that.

  4. Take a virtual chill pill: You’ve got to stay relaxed. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. If music helps, bring a preloaded playlist on your iPod, locate a focal point in the room and breathe. Banish as much negative energy as possible. While it’s not easy, stay as relaxed as you can through contractions – it will let your body do what it’s supposed to do.

  5. Move around during labor: There are a variety of positions for labor. Try to change positions so you’re not in one place for too long. Speak to the nurse about how you can be monitored and still move around. Bring slippers or as for those lovely grippy hospital socks so you can walk the halls.

  6. Make sure you have support and loving encouragement: Having your husband partner or trained birth partner can make a big difference. That support will do more for you than any amount of medication!

Godspeed and good luck new first time parents!

5 Ways to Pamper Your Pregnant Wife

A woman likes to be spoiled – period. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Christmas, her birthday, or just Tuesday, she loves feeling special. So you can count on the fact that if she’s pregnant, she wants and needs to be pampered. If you’re looking to earn some brownie points, this pamper list has got you covered.

Below are some great ways that you can let her know that you love her:

1. The Power of the Spa What girl doesn’t love to spa? Spas are the epitome of being pampered. These days, many spas are catering to pregnant women. Now she can get a specially designed massage that addresses her body’s needs. A spa is a lot like a fancy restaurant; it has a menu full of delicious choices. Feel free to select an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert for your lady. Get her a facial, a massage, and a pedicure. She’ll leave feeling relaxed, pampered, pretty – and appreciated.

2. The Little Things Sometimes, it’s the little things that count. Those small but thoughtful gestures can have the biggest impact. Sometimes just asking if needs or wants anything can earn you big brownie points (even getting her real brownies can get you brownie points). Her hormones are a lot like a roller coaster. It’s important that you are sensitive to her feelings, and that you simply let her know that you are there for her. Give her a little foot rub, do the dishes, make dinner, or give her a card. These may seem like small gestures, but they’re ones that will make her feel pampered and loved.

3. Girls Just Want to Have Fun Cyndi Lauper sang it well: “Girls just want to have fun.” Plan a special little get together for her and her friends. Organize a spa day or an intimate girl dinner at the house. Whatever you decide, just make sure it thoughtful. Don’t microwave a couple some popcorn or hotdogs and think that makes a special girls’ night. If you do it, do it well. If you succeed, you’ll be a big hit with Ms. Preggers and her friends. Warning: Fellow husbands might have a bone to pick with you.

4. Your Love is like a Rock Your love is like a rock, and this baby solidifies that fact. What better way to show her that you love and appreciate her than with a rock? Diamonds, baby. Getting her some jewelry, whether it’s with diamonds or not, is a great way to symbolize your love and this special event in your lives. You can give her this luxe little gift before or after the birth of your baby. What woman doesn’t love jewelry? She’ll love it, and unlike her clothes, jewelry is a perfect fit. If possible, stick to necklaces or earrings. Fingers can swell during pregnancy. Jewelry will make her feel like a princess, and make her see you as her prince.

5. Date Night Women love romance, which is why they’ll even see a romantic comedy that’s received bad reviews. Like shoes, a woman can never have too much romance. Try planning a romantic date or getaway. Dinner at her favorite restaurant, a romantic candle-lit dinner in the backyard, a movie night on the sofa snuggling, or a mini weekend getaway at a luxurious hotel. Any of these ideas will make her feel pampered. For an extra dose of appreciation, feel free to indulge her with more than one of these fab ideas.

Hopefully, these ideas will inspire and get the cretative juices flowing!

How to Use Aromatherapy to Fight Morning Sickness

aromatheraphy morning sickness

Aromatherapy has therapeutic impact for fighting morning sickness. It is said that wearing certain scents on the wrist or other pressure points can help satiate the feeling of queasiness, light headedness, dizzying and nausea.

Personally, essential oils like lavender, chamomile and jasmine were my go to scents to wear on my wrists when I was expecting. Whenever, I would feel squeezy, I’d put my wrist to my nose and inhale deeply.  That was great at work during the early months when I still was concealing my pregnancy. It saved me loads of trips to the restroom or giving myself away because I would be so green.

The makers of Vera Essence sent me a vial of its 100% Pure Perfume to check out and I must say it did remind me of a combination of the oils I used to use and rely on to stay on balance during my first trimester of pregnancy.

The sample I received came in a tube with a roll on ball which made it easy to apply to the wrist and was small enough to fit in my purse or carry in a pocket. The oil is chemical-, toxin-, gluten-, alcohol- and animal cruelty-free and is handcrafted by Zorica in Malibu, California.

Vera Essence features essential oils that together produce a nearly addicting elixir that invigorates your senses like roses sources from Bulgaria, lavender sourced from France, and rose geranium sourced from Egypt. Rose sourced from Bulgaria is the highest-quality rose essential oil available in the world today. 65,000 petals are used to produce one single drop of this luxurious oil A simple whiff is enough to discern the authenticity of Vera Essence‘s unprecedented purity.

The fragrance blend invigorates the senses but in a good way because they are so overpowering that they mask any food being cooked in the office microwave or waffling down to your office from a co-worker’s afternoon snack that could send you off to visit the porcelain Gods!

If you’re experiencing extreme morning sickness, whether in your first trimester or later months, consider giving Vera Essence or some other sort of essential oil or blend a try.

5 Ways Exercise Can Benefit You During Pregnancy

Guest Post

exercise benefits during pregnancy

Let’s be real: pregnancy is not all cocoa butter and foot rubs.  Our bodies change, our favorite meals are suddenly nauseating, and boy, are we tired all the time.

Unfortunately, the more sedentary we are the more we become plagued by these symptoms.

Still, many expecting mothers are apprehensive to exercise with a delicate bun in the oven.  They wonder: is it safe?  The short answer is yes.

Provided you have no serious medical problems (you should always, always check with your doctor first, pregnant or not) and you are training with a certified professional, working out while pregnant is not only safe, but it is also incredibly beneficial.

Here are ResoluteBody.com‘s 5 areas where proper exercise can benefit your pregnancy:

1.      Morning sickness. The consistent nausea that often comes with pregnancy is…well, nauseating.  It is not uncommon for mommies-to-be to get caught up in a vicious cycle where no food at all is appealing.  However, a personal trainer whom specialized in pregnancy and postpartum workouts cannot only provide you with nutritional support, they can also help stimulate your healthy appetite again through proper exercise routines.

2.      Back pain.  Once again, a skilled personal trainer specializing in pregnancy and postpartum exercise can implement a proper workout routine that will not only prevent additional back pains, but also mollify the issue through strategic stretches and poses.

3.      Fatigue.  It is easy to get caught up in a sedentary cycle while pregnant.  However, safe and effective exercise with a pregnancy/postpartum workout expert does more than end this detrimental cycle; it provides you with renewed energy too.  Contrary to popular belief, regular low impact exercise has actually been proven to increase our overall energy, rather than expend it.

4.      Labor delivery.  Think of your due date as a marathon.  You’ll need strength, stamina, and a whole lot of training if you want to make your delivery as streamlined as possible.  Regular training with an expert can ensure you are up for the challenge by strengthening your pelvic floor and improving your endurance.

5.      Weight gain.  Pregnancy is no excuse get out of shape and lose yourself by gaining excess amounts of weight.  In fact, unhealthy weight gain can be downright dangerous to you and your babe.  With a safe exercise program in place, you can keep your body healthy and fit throughout your pregnancy.  Plus, it will make getting back in shape after your baby is born all the more easier.

So, you see, pregnancy and working out can and should go hand-in-hand.  As long as you are working with a trained professional, you should be not only safe, but also thriving from your prego workout routine.

There are different ways to get your baby in shape after having a baby.

Once the doctor gives the okay, many new moms take to running, swimming, heading to the gym and doing exercise DVDs to get back in shape. While doing it, some choose to wear body shapers to help ease them back to pre-pregnancy shape and help contour their waist size. Others swear by breastfeeding and nothing more.

And still others swear by changing their diet and reverting to clean eating: eating less processed foods, consuming more organic and/or gluten free foods and fatty and reducing o

ther complex carbohydrates.

To kickstart a new change in habit or to get a little boost, some opt for cleanses and quick fasts.

Our Bellyitch bumpwatch alum Molly Sims recently shared a personal recipe for a soup cleanse that her personal chef Gavan Murphy conjured up for her.

It is not just any soup. The soup is full of vegan ingredients. The former super model says she sips on a full serving about six times a day while detoxing.

“Fasts are believed to get the junk stuck in the body (bad bacteria, mucus, toxins) out of there!” Sims declares on her website. “Fasting and detoxing really is all about improving your health so listen to your body. Yes, you lose water weight but it also gets you started on the right track. So when you fall off, it’s an easy way to get back on board.”

The blogger and author of The Everyday Supermodel: My Beauty, Fashion, and Wellness Secrets Made Simple

advises those who try it to eat more until satisfied.

The weight should peel off because the soup is low in calories and a vegan cleanse avoids high fat ingredients like cream and dairy.
