What Winter Shade to Rock Now!

Winter calls winter nail colors. Depending on your personality, where you work, and how far you’re willing to take it, you can go for fun, funky, conservative, whimsical or whatever.

Currently, I’m rocking a shimmery and glittery deep shade of blue but I’m a blogger and I have flexibility and no longer work in a strict corporate environment where blue nail polish may be looked down upon.

I curated my fave shades and designs and updated them on my Bellyitch Pinterest nail page where you can see the credits for these:

Meghan Markle Presented A British Fashion Award to Her Wedding Gown Designer

Meghan Markle hit the British Fashion Awards a few days ago during her an official public appearance without her husband Prince Harry.

On Monday, December 10, the Duchess of Sussex made a surprise visit to the event, held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, to present the Fashion Designer of the Year award to Givenchy’s artistic director, womenswear designer Clare Waight Keller ,  the same woman who designed the Duchess’ wedding gown

“It is such an honor to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K.,” she announced to the event attendees.

“This woman is so amazing, and I got to know Meghan on such a personal level,” Keller said during her acceptance speech. “And to have someone like that trust you in an incredible moment in their life, is something that is just the most unbelievable honor and I can’t thank you enough. It was just the most beautiful moment.”

Carrying with the tradition, the former Miss Markle wore a black one sleeve Givenchy dresss and shoes with her hair worn in a sleek bun and finally broke British royalty fashion protocol by wearing dark deep red finger nail polish. Yes! Rebel! (smile)

She donned heels designed by Jimmy Choo co-founder Tamara Mellon. Her Karat heels in Metallic Nappa retails for $550.  The jewels, a pair of gold cuffs, were by Pippa Small, per the What Meghan Worewebsite.

While on stage, she did the ceremonial bump cradle sending the crown ad the event in a tizzy!

Wear Yellow To Brighten Your Mood This Fall and Winter

As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, several of us start to see our moods and temperaments change or dampen. Seasonal Affect Disorder is a common condition that is linked to  the colder months of the year. It can be counterbalanced with light therapy and other sensory treatments.

I think another way to help lift the mood is to wear bright colors in your wardrobe.  Yellow is my go to! It’s a great hue because it’s sunny, bright and could lighten your mood just by wearing it, I think.

Be creative and find different ways to mix yellow into your wardrobe. Accessories are the best way to do that.  You can incorporate yellow by wearing yellow-tinted aviators or lemon framed sunglasses, sunflower yellow tassel earrings, a lemon chiffon patterned tote or a canary yellow scarf.

I like this Mango man Essential Scarf which is great and lightweight and good for warm or cool temps and runs just $15.

You can walk on sunshine with some yellow ballet flats, loafers or tennis shoes too. I like Bass’s Whitney Weejuns Leather Penny Loafer  ($77)- Women’s If you can be so bold and work in an environment that allows for creative dress, paint your nails yellow.

I also love the idea of a big bright and sunny yellow tote. It is unexpected and eye catching and will certainly turn heads like Aldo’s tote for just $39.00 which is a steal!

However, you can, go big and bold! Shop these styles:

This Halloween, even if you are one to regularly dress up and attend costume parties, you may not be in the mood to do so while preggers.

You can still get into the spirit by adding temporary color to your hair, painting your nails in festive Halloween colors or wearing some dramatic eye make up.

How to Keep Your Children Busy In Hotels During Summer Travel

If you’re on vacation, chances are there will be a lot of down time in the hotel room. Your child may find the lack of space in the room restrictive, which could prompt unruly behavior or temper tantrums. Help them avoid boredom or cabin fever with some fun games and toys. It’s unrealistic to bring the contents of the playroom with you on vacation. However, you can bring along some compact game and toy options, or you can create your own activities that require little to no equipment. Here are some ways you can keep your little ones entertained during your hotel stay:

Dress-Up

If you have a little girl, have a mini-fashion show in your hotel room. The two of you can get her prepared for her debut with outfit preparation followed by spa services. Perform a special facial, paint nails and create a fun hair-do. You can easily pack a few accent pieces in your suitcase, like ribbon, costume jewelry or your daughter’s favorite dress. This activity is ideal for the child who enjoys planning and is enthusiastic about dress-up. It will require some patience on her part– but if you keep the energy high and have fun, it will keep her occupied and the two of you will have a blast.

Puzzles

Puzzles are time-consuming activities that can keep a child’s attention. If you have enough room in your luggage, pack some jigsaw puzzles. The two of you should pick out a jigsaw that is your child’s favorite animal or animated character, so they’re excited about the final product. The more enthusiastic they are about the content, the more time they’ll commit. If you have limited space for jigsaws, you can bring along some printed word puzzles. Include terms or words that are at your child’s reading level. You can make the theme of the puzzle reflect your child’s favorite hobbies, books or movies.

Card Games

Cards are compact and can be easily transported–they make a great alternative to board games. You can bring along a pack of regular playing cards for games like go fish, speed or gin rummy. Bicycle offers a six pack of kids card games that include Go Fish, Slap Jack, Memory, Matching, Old Maid and Crazy Eights. These cards are well-illustrated, colorful and designed especially for kids. Uno is another fun card game that is great for the entire family, as you can incorporate many players.

Music Video

Get the creative juices flowing and produce a music video with your kid. They can choose their favorite song, and the two of you can storyboard the visual elements. You can orchestrate outfits and practice choreographed dance moves. The video can be recorded on your tablet or smartphone. Many smartphones have video editing capabilities or apps, so you can instantly assemble the footage and polish it up for presentation. Your child will love to watch themselves perform and it is a fun, creative activity the two of you can do together.

Bath Adventure

Liven up bathtime and make the tub an adventurous oasis. The tub is like a mini pool where your kids can hang out and play with their bath toys. Bring along the essential rubber ducky or foam figures, so your child can entertain themselves with these toys. You also can go one step further and create an exciting bath adventure. You can purchase themed bath kits at toy stores. The Pirates of the Tub play set includes 36 foam pieces that make pirate figurines, islands, a raft, boats and the Jolly Roger flag. The pieces will stick onto tiles, the wall or sides of the bath tub. The set also includes three pirate squirters that your kid will love.

Best Tips for Caring for Your Child’s Hair

Kids aren’t exactly known for their wellness routines. Most children would rather spend more time playing than styling their own hair, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take matters into your own hands. Teaching proper self-care is a vital step towards preparing kids to be and look their best.

You probably already know you can do a lot with your kid’s hair. You can brush it, let it grow, straighten it, or spike it with gel. Yet, it’s up to your kids whether or not they actually let you do these things. Nobody wants their kids walking around with perpetual bedhead, so let’s talk about the best ways to care for your child’s hair.

Start with Healthy Habits

Like teaching your kids to eat their veggies, you can lead by example by showing kids the best ways to keep their hair clean and healthy. Depending on the nature of your child’s hair, they might not need to wash it every day. Dry hair can get away with not being cleaned with shampoo every day while oily hair or dirty hair might require a rough scrub.

Teach your child the best way to wash his or her hair safely. Simple things like using your fingertips instead of nails to scrub the scalp might not be evident to kids without instruction. Show them how to keep shampoo or conditioner from their eyes by leaning the head back and rinsing away from the face.

After the shower or bath, help your child detangle their hair. Show them that untangling their hair is essential to keep their hair looking its best. Use a children’s detangler to make untangling their hair easy and pain-free. Get into a routine with your child to run through the hair care basics every day.

Learn About Your Kid’s Hair

Your children might have a different hair type than you, and it’s essential to learn the unique ways to care for this new kind locks. Curly, natural hair, for example, requires a lot of different care than naturally straight hair. Don’t buy into hair myths that might leave you doing the wrong things with your kid’s hair.

It’s okay to experiment with different products with your kid’s hair. They’ll look to you for guidance to find the best styling tools as they get older, so learning early on can be a good first step. Most kids aren’t interested in trying hot tools or heat styling, so look for easy products they can incorporate into their existing hair routine.

Empower Your Kids

Kids want to feel like they’re in control. They likely have a lot of opinions on how their hair should look. While you don’t have to listen when your kid wants to cut off all her hair or dye it magenta, you should empower them to take part in their own haircare.

Letting children make small decisions about their own hairstyles is a great way to involve them in their own development. They want to feel heard and in charge of their own bodies, so give them the ability to control their own hair length or how they’ll wear their hair to school in the mornings.

Be a Strong Example

The most important thing you can do when it comes to your child and his or her hair is to be a good example. Kids feed their emotions and opinions off of the adults around them. If your child looks up to you, then you don’t want him or her to catch you being negative about your own hair.

Keep the negativity to a minimum not only when talking about handling your own children’s hair, but also your own hairstyle. Kids will quickly pick up on your feelings, and they might even start repeating these things themselves. While it can be frustrating to manage new hair, stay calm and understanding. If your kids see as a positive hair influence, they will carry that into their own lives.

Kids don’t care very much about their hair, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to. Proper hair care starts at home, and the sooner you teach children to value their own self-care, the better. Be a positive example for your kids by showing them how to not only take care of themselves but how to be confident with their own hair.

OMG! Princess Charlotte Is the New Harper Beckham/Suri Cruise

Yesterday, the fact the Queen of England wore a brooch The Obamas gave her while meeting US President Trump was trending as people in social media referred to her as the “Queen of Shade”. It looks like her great granddaughter, Princess Charlotte, has some snarky non-verbal shading skills of her own.

While attending her baby brother Prince Louis‘ Christening at St. Jame’s Palace in London on July 9,Prince George and Princess Charlotte entered holding their father Prince William’s hands, while mom, Kate Middleton followed behind holding Prince Louis in her arms.

Charlotte shot the snapping press one fierce look that was reminiscent to Suri Cruise and Harper Beckham back when those two were the “it” celebrity baby darlings.

Dressed in a blue floral frock with her hair parted in the middle, the princess wore a blue headband that had a bow attached at the to with matching blue shoes and white socks.

Big bro donned navy knickers and a crisp white short sleeve shirt paired with navy socks and shoes.

Duchess Catherine stuck with her fave Alexander McQueen. Kate wore similar ensembles for George and Charlotte’s christening’s marking Louis’ as the third time wearing the beloved designer. Kate nailed her look and as the saying goes if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.

Lilly Ghalichi Mir Answers Fans in Cute Pregnancy Q & A (VIDEO)

Shahs of Sunset alum Lilly Ghalichi took to Instagram and YouTube to answer some of her fans and followers’ questions about her pregnancy. It was refreshing to me reviewing it to see that the ordinarily extremely svelte attorney was interested in maintaining the curves she’d grow after pregnancy.

Also, her husband told her to embrace the weight gain and pregnancy symptoms because it is a blessing to be a host to a baby.

She also shared her maternity style which really just consists of wearing tube dressed, specifically the  Wolford Fatal Dress in all the colors: red, black and white.

Also, our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Khloe Kardashian sent her a pair of her company Good American’s Maternity Jeans

Finally, on the suggestion of her health practitioner, she fought leg fatigue by wearing Jobst Compression Shocks.

It was also refreshing that she told her audience that there really isn’t any way to avoid getting stretch marks because it is genetic. And she is right, the marks appear sometime in the trimester, or even after.

While you cannot avoid the marks, you could do something to slow down their appearance or make them less visible and for the eyelash entrepreneur relies on Bio Oil that she slathers all over her tummy and everywhere gaining weight and or Tee Tree Oil for hair breakage.

To combat acne and other pregnancy-related face breakouts, Ghalichi turns to Murad Clarifying Mask.

As to the things she avoids, all the things he docs told her: She doesn’t drink alcohol or use nail polish unless it is toxic-free pregnancy-friendly polish. She avoids caffeine and cut out sushi, ignoring friends who said they took the risk and ate sushi but as a first time mom-to-be, Ghalichi says she wasn’t taking the risk.

Cravings was Popsicles and carbs thus her 1 pound per week pregnancy weight gain. At 20 weeks, she has gained 20 pounds and says she is comfortable gaining 40 more because she wants her body to do what it wants and to be the best for her baby girl.

Yes! Very refreshing. She is an ideal mom-to-be, who investigates, research and heeds to all the rules! Bravo!

How to Navigate Farmer’s Market Season

The month of May means it’s nearly time for America’s favorite food lovers’ tradition: visiting your local farmers market. In addition to all the invigorating colors, exquisite aromas, strong flavors, and spirit of community, the farmers market is also an opportunity to develop one-on-one relationships with the people who produce your food!
Their passion for food can be quite inspiring.

Stop Foodborne Illness (http://www.stopfoodborneillness.org), a national public health organization whose mission is preventing illness and death from foodborne pathogens wants to remind you that no matter where you get your food – by supporting friendly local farmers or by shopping your neighborhood supermarket – food safety is always important.

Food that is fresh is a delicious treat! Organic and sustainable farming doesn’t use pesticides, chemicals, hormones and other additives, but it isn’t necessarily safer when it comes to foodborne illness – because everything is still grown in the dirt, and handled by humans. Pathogens such as E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella are found naturally in soil, as well as manure. Which basically means, everything needs to be washed.

Farmers and vendors selling food at the farmers market, as well as consumers/shoppers should understand the necessary steps to reducing the risk of illness from food. “It’s a good idea to know the signs of safe food handling when you visit each market vendor,” said Deirdre Schlunegger, CEO of Stop Foodborne Illness. “Knowing your favorite farmers and vendors are using safe food practices, definitely boosts one’s confidence in their purchases!”

Most states have passed legislation regulating farmers’ markets. For example, in Illinois, most home-canned foods other than jams, jellies and preserves cannot be sold at the farmers market. Typically, farmers markets must be inspected by local health departments who make sure each market meets food safety standards, and most vendors, including those from so-called “cottage industries,” must be licensed to sell their products at farmers markets.

For a list of farmers markets in your area click here: www.ams.usda.gov/local-food-directories/farmersmarkets

If you’re interested in policies and regulations affecting farmers markets in your state, contact the department of health. For more information: www.stopfoodborneillness.org/awareness/food-safety-by-state/

The condition of the vendors’ booths and their products can tell you a lot about their safe food practices. Here are some things to look for:
  • Clean hands. Dirty fingernails or a filthy apron aren’t appetizing. For vendors serving food – are they wearing gloves, and is their hair covered?
  • A certification notice. Some vendors will display certificates that show they have been trained in food safety. These are good indicators that their foods are handled properly.
  • The carton is clean. When buying eggs, look to see if the carton is clean – inside and out, and make sure the eggs are clean and not cracked. Reused egg cartons are fine, if clean.
  • Cold foods are cold. Meats, cheeses and other dairy, and eggs should be kept cold. Salads and cold sandwiches should feel like they’re straight from the fridge.
  • Meat, poultry and fish are cooked to a safe temperature.  The only way to determine a safe temperature for meat, poultry or fish, is by using a cooking thermometer. If you’re not sure, ask.
  • Hot foods are hot. The “Danger Zone” for food (where bacteria multiply quickly) is between 40°F and 140°F. Cooked foods like soups and burgers should be piping hot.
  • Samples are being safely handled. Vendors using gloves, tongs, tissues, or other utensils are doing it right! (They shouldn’t be using bare hands.) Are knives, serving utensils, dishes, and service surfaces kept clean?  If not, take a pass on these foods.
  • Ciders, juices, and dairy products are pasteurized. Since unpasteurized foods are serious sources of foodborne pathogens, shoppers should ask when products, including the samples, are not clearly labeled.
On hot days …
  • Be mindful of jars open for sampling —sauces, salsas, jams, pickles and so on —they should not be out for more than two hours at outside temperature. One hour, if it’s over 90°F. Many markets have started offering hand-washing stations with hand sanitizer. We encourage you to use them.
  • If you’re purchasing perishables like dairy, eggs, or meat bring a cooler or insulated bag with ice to the market, so your newly purchased products can be kept cold for the ride home in the hot car.
  • Make the farmers market your final stop before heading home. Your fresh veggies and fruit, and other perishable foods, won’t have to sit long in a hot car, and will make it to the refrigerator that much more quickly.
