Texas Mom of Triplets Tested Positive for COVID, Recovered, Then Had Another Emergency

A Houston, Texas mom pregnant with triplets went into her 28 week check up to discover that she had contracted COVID-19 and two weeks later that one of her three babies had his umbilical cord tied around his neck.

By the day of that discovery about the cord last week, mom had gotten two back-to-back negative COVID test results, clearing the way for an emergency C-section at Women’s Hospital of Texas .

Fortunately, all three babies were born happy and healthy, and the mother, who is only identified as “Maggie” eventually beat COVID-19.

An Instagram post from the hospital shared some details including the fact that the husband wasn’t allowed to be with his wife in the delivery room because he had also previously tested positive for the virus, and while cleared in one follow-up test, he “hadn’t received his second negative test,” so her mother was her “one support person during labor,” the hospital said.

“At 4:51 p.m., “Baby A,” Isabella, was born at 3.11 lbs. At 4:53 p.m., “Baby B,” Nathaniel, was born at 3.7 lbs. Finally, at 4:55 p.m., “Baby C,” Adriel, was born at 2.1 lbs. ” the hospital said.

“The doctors and nurses were amazed by how well Maggie did. She and her babies, who arrived in perfect ABC order, were healthy, safe and undeniably resilient.”

Maggie told other mothers on the hospital’s Facebook page, “You have to let other people help you and remember you aren’t alone. Look forward to each day and celebrate every small victory.”

All this happened the same week Texas was experiencing an unprecedented spike in coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

On June 9, Texas recorded its highest number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations since May 5, and the state has been locked in a battle since against soaring related figures.

A related crisis with triplets appened back in April in Mexico, but there, even though the parents tested positive, the mom’s triplets all tested positive for COVID at birth but each recovered and are healthy as well.

With New Fatherhood, CNN’s Anderson Cooper Joined the 3 percent

When CNN anchor Anderson Cooper announced on the last day of April last month that he had become a father, he joined the 3% of single men in the United States who become a parent without a partner or spouse.

“On Monday, I became a father,” the heir to the Vanderbilt fortune and popular on air news personality shared at the end of a CNN Town Hall segment. “I have a son.”

He later tweeted that Wyatt Morgan Cooper was born on Monday weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces.

Before Cooper, one of his best friends, BravoTV‘s Andy Cohen also welcomed a baby solo, and similarly, Cohen too announced the news on his nightly talk show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen

Other famous men who became parents while single include, actor Hill Harper, who adopted a son, while  there is apparently a growing trend of single men turning to surrogacy, according to recent reports.

International soccer star and the most famous person on Instagram, Cristiano Ronaldo, is a surrogate to three children, two of whom were born when he was single.

In 2008, Latin pop sensation Ricky Martin used a surrogate to father twins while he was also without a partner at the time. He has since welcomed a daughter, Lucia, with his husband Jwan Josef.

In a blog post on the E network‘s Daily Dish Blog, an expert explains the trend:

“There are many reasons why some men don’t start a family in their 20s or 30s. But it’s not too late to have a child, even if you don’t have a wife or a female partner? Single men who want to have a biological child of their own, both gay and straight, are starting to turn to IVF and surrogacy,” reports WINfertility, an organization which assists men in becoming single fathers.

“It’s not a simple process — basically, a single man who wants to be a dad needs an egg donor, a gestational surrogate to carry the child, and IVF to make fertilization of the egg and transfer of the embryo possible. There are hormones to take, sperm to donate, tests to undergo, egg testing to be done, contracts to be signed. It can be a years-long process. Which means that if you do it, you really want it.”

But according to Gayle East, owner and director of Surrogate Solutions in Hewitt, Texas, single man surrogacy is becoming more prevalent!

The type of guy who will be willing to undertake such a life-altering move are professionals who are financially stable and ready to settle down but they haven’t found a partner yet.

“They’re single guys who’ve been working in a career, saving money and becoming more financially secure. It’s very doable for them,” says East. “In the past, there was the stereotype of moms raising a family, but they’re seeing same-sex couples with families. And now, watching other guys go through this process will probably give more single guys the courage to do this.”

Congrats to Cooper!

Shahs of Sunset’ Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi Welcomes First Child

Shahs of Sunset GG

Shahs of Sunset GG

Bravo TV‘s Shahs of Sunset star Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi  welcomed her first child, a baby boy!

The entrepreneur and reality TV star announced the news on her Instagram page. “WELCOME TO THE WORLD ELIJAH!!! ❤4/27/20❤” she captioned a post delivery photo of herself giving her newborn skin-to-skin kangaroo love.

“Very happy to report that last night Golnesa Gharachedaghi gave birth to Elijah Javad Gharachedaghi,” her rep told Entertainment Tonight. “The baby arrived last night in Los Angeles at 8:50 p.m., 6.5 pounds, 19.5 inches.”

The rep added: “Everyone is doing great and Golnesa is beyond excited to be a mom and start this new adventure.”

The feisty petite 38-year old was very open about welcoming her first child via in vitro fertlization and a sperm donor. She has stated in that past that though having a baby solo is frowned up on in her Persian culture, she had wanted a baby all her life and was not going to let old traditions get in the way of her dream.

On the Bravo show Watch What Happens Live, the Wüsah owner and cannabis entrepreneur told host Andy Cohen that while she’s had a “great support system” of family and friends, she endure a tough road to pregnancy.

“The biggest struggle I’ve had in general has just been having rheumatoid arthritis and dealing with the pregnancy,” she opened up to Cohen, also sharing that her doctors intended to induce her two weeks before her due date so she could go back to her intense treatment for that autoimmune disease.

According to PEOPLE magazine, “Gharachedaghi used a sperm donor and completed a round of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in August, but nearly lost her life after her first successful embryo transfer in the spring led to an ectopic pregnancy that required emergency surgery and the removal of both fallopian tubes.”

“This is what I wanted my entire life,” Gharachedaghi, 37, told People. “When little girls were talking about their perfect husband and their perfect weddings, I was talking about the 10 kids I was going to have.”

She plans to skip the husband and raise her child on her own. She’s the third cast member to be pregnant following Mercedes “MJ” Javid last Spring and Asa Soltan in July 2017.

She’s totally cool about raising her baby on her own.

“I’m OK right now focusing on me and my baby,” she said. “We’re in a day and age that women are so much more independent, and we’re not necessarily relying on men in order to move forward in life. I can start a family and have my child without being in a relationship right now.”

She added that if she is lucky to meet someone, “That’s great” but she is not interested in getting married in the future or necessarily being with a “forever life partner.”

“My forever will be my child,” she said.

Gharachedaghi got hitched to her on again, off again boyfriend Shalom Yeroushalmi in 2017 but the marriage lasted 7 weeks and they divorced.

The Shahs of Sunset season finale airs Friday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.

March of Dimes Threw a ‘Rainbow Luncheon’ for RHOA’s Porsha Williams {VIDEO}

march of dimes

march of dimes

Miscarriage awareness was the theme of a Rainbow Luncheon thrown in honor of babies lost to miscarriage thrown by the March of Dimes in honor of its latest celebrity ambassador Porsha Williams of BravoTV‘s Real Housewives of Atlanta, and featured on Season 12, episode 20.

Over 50,000 others experience life-threatening complications as a result of pregnancy and childbirth each year, and 380,000 babies are born prematurely, and sadly, in the United States, there is a maternal health crisis that disproportionately affects black women.

That’s why the organization selected Williams, a new mom  who recently welcomed daughter Pilar Jhena with fiance Dennis McKinley.

During the episode which featured the October 2019 event, Williams opened the luncheon by sharing how she suffered a miscarriage alone in her bathroom six years ago, adding that it was something she had never spoken about openly and decided to join the crusade to ensure other women are aware of the prevalence of miscarriage and do not have to go through it alone.

Three of the “Friends of the Housewives” of this franchise of the show also spoke up:

Tanya Sam opened up about having limited egg reserves because she found love later in life.

“I got the news that like I didn’t have a lot of egg reserves so that’s why it was so hard [to have a baby],” Sam, a tech angel investor says. “I recently started talking about it and I find there’s a lot of strength in being able to say that to other women.”

Shamea Morton Mwangi spoke up about having severe complications with her epidural before she gave birth and recovery.

Marlo Hampton shared that she have had two ectoptic pregnancies and used to question God about why she couldn’t have a baby but later resolved to herself that she was deprived of motherhood so she could be in a position to mother her nephews 12-year old Michael and 11-year old Matthew in place of her sister who is mentally incapable of caring for the boys.

Cast member Nene Leakes said in a confessional that she too has had a miscarriage as has her arch nemesis Kenya Moore who struggled with infertility before welcoming her daughter Brooklyn Doris with her estranged ex, Marc Daly.

“Being a woman doesn’t mean you are guaranteed to have children.” Moore said in a confessional. ” I nearly died having Brooklyn and you should never shame women for not being able to have children because those are things you cannot change.”

The March of Dimes is hoping Williams will use her advocacy to draw attention to the , as well as to spotlight her own challenges and joys of pregnancy and motherhood.

March of Dimes President and CEO Stacey D. Stewart presented Williams with a painting by a black female artist as a thank you for hosting the event.

Another Bravo franchise Real Housewives of Potomac featured an episode last season centered around three women from that show that suffered miscarriage loss, Monique Samuels, who hosted a Unicorn celebration in lieu of a baby shower, during which co-star and new mom Ashley Darby opened up about her own loss. Friend of the Housewives Katie Rost also has a sad pass with loss.

How the Trump Tax Law Impacts Your Child Deductions

You might have heard that having a dependent doesn’t do you much good anymore, at least from 2018 through 2025, thanks to tax legislation passed by congress in December 2017.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that became effective in 2018 does indeed eliminate the personal exemption that used to be available for each of your dependents.

But the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, and the Child and Dependent Care Credit are all still alive and well, and having a dependent is critical to qualifying for each of them.

And if you and your baby’s other parent aren’t married and living together, your dependent might help qualify you as head of household, an advantageous filing status.

Your baby will qualify as your dependent more or less by default under the remaining IRS rules for qualifying child dependents.

  • A dependent must be your son or daughter, brother or sister, or a descendant of one of these individuals. You’ve got this one covered if you’ve just given birth.
  • The child must be younger than age 19 on the last day of the tax year, or age 24 if a full-time student. Your baby obviously qualifies here, too.
  • Finally, the child cannot have provided more than half their own financial support for the year. This should not be an issue unless and until child labor laws radically change.

So, yes, having a dependent is still a good thing at tax time, and yes, your newborn will qualify you if you meet these rules…even if your baby is born at the 11th hour of the year.

Katy Perry is Pregnant

Katy Perry bump in Never Worn White

Katy Perry is pregnant with her and actor fiance Orlando Bloom‘s first child together, which she revealed in the music video for her latest song that debuted Wednesday night.

The American Idol judge teased the news in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon while announcing the debut of the video for her latest project, the song “Never Worn White“, a song about fear of commitment.

“You are cordially invited to the premiere of #NeverWornWhite,” she captioned a short clip of the video where Perry can be seen in a dress made of flowers and one in a long peach ball gown with two of her hands cradling a sizeable baby bump! “Join me on the @YouTube watch page tonight at 8:30pm PT and chat with me (promise not a bot! ) before the video premieres at 9pm PT!”

By the time the full music video debuted at midnight, fans could ascertain clearly from the last frame that she is indeed expecting as she stood in the silhouette holding her bare bump.

Fans immediately began speculating by asking if she was expecting.

From PEOPLE:

Perry previously exchanged vows with now-ex-husband Russell Brand in a private but extravagant ceremony in India in 2010, less than 10 months after the pair got engaged. In 2017, Brand, 44, wed Laura Gallacher, with whom he shares two daughters: Peggy, 19 months, and Mabel, 3.

Meanwhile, Bloom wed Kerr, 36, in an intimate ceremony in July 2010 just one month after their engagement was confirmed. The model has since married Snapchat co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, with whom she shares two sons: Myles, whom they welcomed in October 2019, and Hart, who was born in May 2018.

“Never Worn White” is Perry’s first song release of 2020 after dropping tracks “Never Really Over,” “Small Talk” and “Harleys in Hawaii” last year.

Congrats!

Don’t Cancel Your Spring Break Travel Trip Over Fear of Viruses; Do These Instead

vacation

vacation

We are deep into Cold and Flu season, and if you are planning a family vacation for this upcoming Spring Break, you may be hesitant about staying clear from dangerous viruses like the coronavirus outbreak.

However, you do not have to worry if you take precautions. Alejandra Tejada, mom and founder of Totts, a company that sends customized packages of baby travel essentials to your destination, shares her tips for how to keep your family from getting sick while on vacation.

Before You Travel

Limit activities in centers or play spaces where exposure to viruses could be greater. Although it’s not a foolproof solution, when you have the choice, opt to spend the few days before travel at home or areas with lower traffic.

For those who have kids in daycare or school, it’s a nearly impossible task (we know!), but consider keeping your child at home to rest the day before you travel and make sure to wash up the second your kids get home from school. While avoiding  quickly-spreading viruses may not be easy, washing hands as soon as kids get home minimizes the spread and therefore limits exposure.

Getting rest before travel isn’t just for the kids. Catching up on some zzz’s can do wonders to boost your immune health and ensure your body has the power to fight off viruses (6-8 hrs is the recommended amount).

Make sure both you and your children get a proper night’s sleep and nap a day or two before you travel. For young babies that means trying to ensure proper rest which may mean keeping naps outside the home to a minimum.

On that note, stress can leave your body more vulnerable. If you don’t want to get sick, and pass it on to your kids, find ways to eliminate stress leading up to travel. Consider offloading tasks that can be stressful —  this is a great time to try out a Totts box to help with the stress of packing!

 While You Travel

This starts with what you pack—purchase both disinfectant and antibacterial wipes. Disinfectant wipes like Clorox wipes can be used to clean surfaces such as armrests, tray tables, windows, seats and other hard surfaces. For the wipes to do their magic, make sure to follow instructions —  surfaces are required to be wet for a certain amount of time in order for germs to be killed properly.

Antibacterial wipes are great to wipe grime off your child’s hands and also make sure they are cleaned along the way. Antibacterial wipes are still no replacement for hand washing, so continue to wash and use the wipes in between washes.

It’s hard to avoid the tray table while you’re on a plane (or the desire for your toddler to play with one). But before you start feeding your child from the table, make sure the surface has been sanitized and that there is a clean layer between the table and food or other activities your child is doing on the tray table.

You can use a stick-on disposable placemat to cover the table or there are other products out there specifically designed to create a barrier between the table and your child.

Areas of the plane to avoid? Yes, the bathroom is not ideal, but avoiding that altogether isn’t feasible. However, the back seat pocket can— and should— be avoided! According to tests it’s the dirtiest part of a seat and one where germs tend to linger. Avoid putting toys and other items your child uses (or you use) in the pockets.

A big question families are asking right now —  should we wear a mask? The right type of mask can protect you by filtering the airborne particles but in a lot of cases it doesn’t offer 100% protection against airborne illnesses. It’s just the same if you are in a crowded subway or coffee shop —  there is still going to be exposure.

Unless you are traveling to areas that you feel you have an increased chance of getting sick, purchase a heavy-duty mask (a surgical mask won’t do) — otherwise it’s okay to leave the masks at home.

When You Arrive

Pull out the disinfectant wipes and cover the surfaces that you know your child will touch —  tables, tv remote, phones and doorknobs. Use only glassware / utensils wrapped in plastic, and wash anything else before using (or better yet bring your own!).

Many families use high chairs, cribs or rented car seats at their destination. Take the same approach to wiping down these surfaces. Even though you may not stop everything, it’s all about helping to put the odds in your family’s favor.

Lastly, take time to relax! It may seem counterintuitive now that you have a laundry list of things to wipe down (sorry for the extra work!), but make sure you don’t overexert yourself or your kids during your vacation.

Rest is still the best remedy to help fight any illness and you want to make sure your whole family is getting plenty of it. Remember, a vacation is a time to re-charge so make sure you take advantage of this natural immune booster while you have it!

Good luck, parents!

Here are the Strollers Celeb and Posh Moms Use

celebrity stroller

It has been 10 years since I last posted the annual Bellyitch Most Expensive Strollers post. It was a yearly blog post staple and used to get tons of traffic because, honestly, I think people, generally, are obsessed with knowing what baby items are used and coveted by the super wealthy and celebrities.

Since the last post, a few stroller companies have gone out of business. RIP to Orbit, Maclaren and newer brands 4Moms and iCandy, which were once considered “it” strollers in their day but no longer manufacture luxury strollers.

In 2013, I published the list as part of the Bellyitch 100, a book of the top crib makers, maternity wear designers, stroller makers and baby clothes brands.

You can get your Free Copy of The Bellyitch 100 here!

Anyway, so I used to publish the Most Expensive Strollers list at a time when I was raising a young family and brands would boast that they were on the list.

My social circle at the time included professional working women, stay-at-home moms, and mom bloggers, several who were affluent and looked at the stroller as a status symbol.

Here is another secret about what happens among moms at the park, at the school pick up lot, in the mall and other social places where mommies congregate. They check out what strollers they’re pushing a baby or child in and make judgments.

Yes, there is a definite hierarchy in quality of strollers and believe me when I tell you that certainly check out what stroller another mom’s child is being pushed in and make judgments.

When I was raising my children as a young lawyer, I went through 6 strollers, which is a low number considering many of my friends at the tiem had way more.

Our first stroller was a Peg Perego  which converts from a baby carriage or pram to a push stroller. At the time, it was among the best. Then, when my first born turned into a toddler, we ordered the Inglesina Swift umbrella stroller from the Italian stroller manufacturer. It had a great run!

To pair with the Inglesina, a sturdy Italian brand, we got a lower cost Combi umbrella stroller for travel, a stroller we could beat up which was so much less that so that we wouldn’t mind if it got lost by the airline or damaged during travel.

Then, when I was expecting baby #2, I got as an amazing shower gift from my co-workers at my old job: a Peg Prerego Aria double stroller!

By the time baby number 3 rolled around, the Inglesina had hit the dirt, we left the Combi on some island we visited for vacation once and we had loaned out the Peg Perego Buggy to relatives who didn’t take good care of it.

The wheels on the double gave out and we opted to give to Goodwill rather than try to fix it or get the company to repair it.

B.O.B.

We opted for a lesss expensive Graco Snug Ride for Baby #3 and a B.OB. jogging stroller (the air-filled jogger stroller with hand activated rear wheel brakes that can ride smooth on any terrain) when I was ready to get back in shape.

Now, while we didn’t get any of them to make a statement, I have had many moms and dads comment on the pricier high end ones while walking in the parks, malls etc. People are always looking for a status symbol and there is a preconception that most expensive means the best!

It’s no wonder, you can see celebrities strolling their children in many of those on this list. The celebrities know that too. That is why Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony sued Silver Cross from publishing on their website an unauthorized endorsement which featured a People magazine photo of them pushing their twins in two Silver Cross prams.

People flock to buy whatever celebrities purchase and that stroller companies know that endorsement mean lots for their bottom line.

Anyhoo, on to the list. Of course, as a disclaimer, this list is not exhaustive. As usual, this list is based on my own personal research and I urge readers to point out other vehicles that should grace this list. Certainly, I would amend the post to reflect corrections.

In the meantime, check out this year’s list of “it” strollers pushed by the most Poshest of moms and celebs out there (I’m updating this list with a few more after the initial post so come back and ping me on Twitter if you don’t see one you think should be on this list)

America Ferrera is Not Letting Pregnancy Slow Her Down

Superstore star  and second-time mom-to-be America Ferrera is still working hard, promoting her projects and looking fierce while doing it.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star looked glam  in a bump hugging pencil dress, hoops, sharp patent leather heels and a sleek updo while sitting on a panel with co-stars and creators at Netflix in a program produced by the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) to promote one of her latest project, Gentefied.
What started as a series of web shorts about a family-owned taco stand that faced relocation due to gentrification has turned to a Netflix series that premieres this upcoming February 21 and starring Ferrera.

Just last month, Ferrera was in Utah at the Sundance Festival attending  The Latinx House And Netflix Host Their Joint Kick-off Party on January 24, 2020 in Park City, Utah.

And before that, she and The Black Panther and The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira were announcing the nominees for the Screen Actors’ Guild awards before getting on stage to present one of the awards during the actual show later.

The Ugly Betty alum is LA born of Honduran parents. She and husband  Ryan Piers Williams, welcomed their first child, a healthy baby boy back, Sebastian, in March 2018.
