‘Shah’s of Sunset’ MJ Javid Silences Her ‘Fake Pregnancy’ Trolls

Several celebs have been trolled by people on the internet who are convinced they are not really pregnant but faking it while a surrogate really carries their child. Beyonce, Danielle Jonas, Meghan Markle and Kenya Moore have had to dodge fake pregnancy rumors during and after delivery.

Bravo TV star of Shahs of Sunset Mercedes “MJ” Javid is the latest.

The 46-year old is pregnant with her first child, a son, after undergoing in vitro fertilization.

The real estate biz owner has been on bedrest for the most part of her later stages of pregnancy following a few complications but despite giving fans glimpses of her baby bump on her Instagram page, she is still routinely harassed by many to show a mirror selfie of it while standing up.

The maternity shoot which is featured exclusively in PEOPLE magazine today should do the trick to get them off her back, according to a recent post.

“Thank you @people for such beautiful coverage of our baby journey thus far,” she captioned a photo from the shoot which featured multiple images of her in lingerie, and with her belly bare and clearly visible. “As I continue to share my experience with families with whom I share this life goal, I hope my experience provides support, hope and positive thinking for others.”

She continued: “Today, I am grateful to my husband and family for the incredible support I’ve received in getting us this far. I know we have so much more ahead. I am blessed to work with incredible photographer, @shannonlaurine and my glam squad, @brandonliberati and @makeupbymarine all of which together we celebrate the female form during this incredible God given opportunity ? #bumpalert

She addressed the body shaming and fake pregnancy accusations in the magazine.

“A lot of people on social [media] have already come at me for faking my pregnancy,” she says, saying for example, “My face doesn’t look pregnant, my nose doesn’t look swollen, my bump isn’t big enough, I am using a surrogate, I am making this up for attention.”

But she’s staying strong.

“I don’t mind the shaming, I just think it’s very odd that so many people would think a woman would make a choice to lie about something so important,” she explained. “I think if I get mom shamed, I’m not going to care … if anyone wants to mom shame or bully someone in general, they should bully me because I won’t be affected.”

You’d think that would be the end of it. Nope!

The photo garnered a lot of attention but did not stop folks in the comment section a.k.a. the peanut gallery from criticizing the photo edits, and some still said it wasn’t her real belly.

So..she felt the need to follow up with a non-glam bump photo for the haters.

“And a no filter, no make up, no suntan, at home baby bump selfie, to shut down all the haters who have a problem with a woman getting out of bed after 3 and a half months of bed rest to get a little hair and make up for her maternity photos. ?” she captioned a selfie photo in sweats at home.

She previously addressed the hounding on an Instagram Live, ask me anything session with fans.

” My due date is on May 11 and people are saying ‘Why aren’t I showing, why I aren’t I showing?’ I think that it’s a combination of two things: the first thing is that people don’t always show when they’re only 19 weeks, which is where I’m at. Number two: I’m not stick thin,” she said. “I think that from the side I’m definitely thicker and that I’m getting there, but I don’t think that people always show that early.”

You cannot please people so it’s better off not trying. I don’t know how celebs do it being constantly judged and picked apart.

Wait until that baby comes. She can see how folks are tearing into new moms like Chrissy Teigen, Kenya Moore, Gabrielle Union and now Porsha Williams to get a taste at the levels of unsolicited advice and shaming in store.

Oy! Good luck, MJ!

Rethinking What We Know About Baby’s First Foods

Tanaphong Toochinda

Introducing your baby to solid foods is a daunting task.

It’s hard to know if you’re getting the right advice from well-meaning family, your mommy group – or Google.

According to Amy Shapiro, Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist and advisor to Fresh Bellies , the first-ever savory kid product for palate training, parents should be aware of 5 common misconceptions when they start solids:

#1 YOU NEED TO START WITH BLAND FOODS

For most parents, spices are out, and fruits are first for babies. Instead, first foods should teach young palates to learn to love savory food. Many typical pre-made baby foods add sugar, which changes baby’s taste profile to crave sweet. Go for unmasked veggies seasoned with herbs and spices (yes garlic!).

#2 YOUR BABY MUST WAIT UNTIL MONTH 6

There’s no set rule around baby’s first solid foods – it really depends on your baby. It’s totally okay to start at month 4 or even start all the way up to month 8.

#3 NUTS ARE A NO GO

No need to avoid nuts. In fact, the earlier you introduce your kids, in pureed form, (as long as there is no family history of nut allergy), the less risk they have of developing these and other types of allergies. Introduce them at around 6 months.

#4 BABY’S FIRST MEATBALLS?

Early on, your child does not yet have the enzymes necessary to digest meats. Always start with veggies, and avoid those chicken nuggets for now.

#5 CLEAN YOUR PLATE

Worried your child isn’t eating enough? Don’t. Let your kid tell you when they are finished with their meal.If you teach them to ignore their natural “full” tendency, they will have trouble self-regulating their eating portions for the rest of their lives.

Hope this helps you mamas out there!

Fun Ways to Celebrate Baby’s First Easter

Bellytich Rewind

When it comes to celebrating firsts, there’s something special about celebrating that first Easter together.  While your baby is a bit too small to help you with a lot of things, she’ll enjoy watching you decorate the house, color Easter eggs and prepare yummy foods. During your celebration don’t forget to take lots of photos. You’ll want to be sure to include them with her other “firsts” in her scrapbook.

Coloring eggs

This time honored tradition of coloring Easter eggs started because eggs are a symbol of rebirth.  More than 500 years ago the first book was written mentioning Easter eggs.  Some Christians would not eat meat during Lent and so Easter was the first time they could eat eggs and meat again.  One common game that was played was an egg rolling contest which symbolized the rolling away of the stone on Christ’s tomb.  Your baby will love the look of colored eggs.  Beware, though. It may be a good idea to wait until your child is older to let her eat them.  If you’re looking for egg-coloring inspiration, check out these five blogs.

Egg Hunt

Many churches and cities hold large Easter egg hunts every year.  The nice thing about these places is that they let the groups go according to age.  You and your little one can run out looking for eggs.  Many times the eggs are just lying on the grass and easy to find.  Invite some other kids over and throw your own Easter egg hunt.  Of the many kinds of events you can host this is probably one of the easiest ones you can do.  If money is tight you can always ask each guest to bring a dozen filled eggs with them so that you don’t have to provide all of the filled eggs and the food for the event.  Have a good time and take a look at these five blog entries to get some tips on egg hunts.

Desserts

Everyone needs a dessert for Easter dinner.  For baby’s first Easter he may or may not be eating a lot of solid foods, but these desserts are kid-friendly desserts that are perfect for the whole family.  Traditional Easter desserts might be carrot cake or pineapple cake.  Bakers have branched out over the years to include all sorts of edible delights for Easter dinner.  These five blog posts will show traditional, light and decadent Easter desserts.

Easter Baskets

Typically the Easter bunny leaves a basket for little boys and girls.  You can buy a pre-made Easter basket at the discount store if you are pressed for time, but why would you when it’s so simple to put one together yourself.  There are different levels of Easter baskets, from simple to over-the-top.  These basket ideas have so many cute things that no one will even miss the candy.  So no matter what kind of basket you want to give your little one on her first Easter you should be able to find some ideas within these five blog posts.

Your Pregnancy, According to Your Zodiac Sign

Virgo’s are hardworking and practical, which make them likely to handle pregnancy with more grace than chaos. The Virgo’s enjoyment of healthy foods and books make them one of the most common of the zodiac signs to read all of the books on pregnancy and motherhood and eat just right for a healthy pregnancy.

However, the Virgo’s tendency to be overly critical of themselves means that they are quite likely to feel like “bad mothers” before the baby has even arrived. The Virgo is the most likely to take something as simple as slipping and having half a cup of fully caffeinated coffee and turn it into “I’m a bad mommy!”

That’s my sign! Read about yours over at YourTango.com!

Expecting ‘Shahs Of Sunset’s MJ Had A Pregnancy Scare

Shahs of Sunset star Mercedes “MJ” Javid had a pregnancy scare late last month.

The Bravo TV celebrity was checked into the maternity ward because she had a condition where her cervix was measuring too short and at risk of causing a miscarriage.

She had to get a procedure to cure the defect known as a cervical cerclage, also known as a cervical stitch, a treatment for cervical incompetence or insufficiency, when the cervix starts to shorten and open too early during a pregnancy causing either a late miscarriage or preterm birth.

Javid shared the moment from the hospital maternity triage ward.

“First and foremost, thank you so much for all the messages of love and support along the way,” she captioned a photo of herself laying in bed in a hospital gown.

She continued: “Here’s a little video of me feeling very scared and nervous about something unexpected that my exceptionally awesome doctors found during a check up after xmas where my cervix suddenly measured too short, around 1.3 centimeters, which is high risk for m.c. I got an epidural, an overnight stay at the hospital for a surgery called cervical cerclage, which is considered a rescue.”

She thanked her support team for getting her through the traumatic experience.

“How I got through this emotionally is by the strong, peaceful and beautiful spirit of my father, my maternal strength, and the unrelenting support of my husband,” she continued. “There is so much more to come and although bed rest has not been the ideal way to spend this beautiful time, I am learning a lot, and finding a blessing in EVERYTHING ?♥️? #babyjourney#pregnancyjourney#IVFJourney”

Earlier in the month, she showed her followers her baby bump perhaps to quell some of the rumors that the 46-year old wasn’t really pregnant and had a surrogate but was lying about it.

RHOA’s Porsha Williams Covers ‘Rolling Out’; Gives Mompreneur Advice

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams covers last month’s edition of Rolling Out Magazine.

On the cover and in inside pics, the gorgeous and buxom mom-to-be poses on the patio near a scenic locale and is shrouded in a beautiful yellow lace embroidered and sequined designed off-the-shoulder bump-hugging yellow gown with flowy bohemian sleeves and fringe skirt

The reality TV star dishes about her connection to Atlanta, her Civil Rights roots as the granddaughter to noted icon Hosea Williams, who marched alongside luminaries like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, and Andrew Young; and gives advice to other mom entrepreneurs.

“I knew Atlanta was special from a very young age, just through charity work,” Williams told the magazine. “My grandfather, Hosea Williams, created the charity Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless. I worked in it, and it was right in the heart of Atlanta. All of my life I’ve been very close to the community and have known the people. We like to work together, we like to build each other up, we like to network; it’s a very [forward-looking city].”

Williams, who is a host on the nightly syndicated gossip radio talk show Dish Nation and has several ecommerce brands gave advice to other moms who are in business for themselves.

“Mommy entrepreneurs must be sure to have a great support system,” she offers. “You have to make sure that the type of business that you want to start will be good for you and your family. I wouldn’t get into just anything. If you don’t have someone to keep your kids and the best support, you may want to start a business that’s online, where you could be working from home. Start a business that’ll be practical for your real lifestyle. Research it and just go for it. Dream big and put in the hard work. Always use your kids as the focus and the purpose and the drive for what you’re going to do.”

And entrepreneurship was in her blood and family.

“My father was an entrepreneur,” the Bravolebrity shares. “He owns his own chemical company. My mother is also an entrepreneur, owning numerous childcare centers throughout Atlanta. I started out working in the family business, which was childcare. I ended up starting my own childcare center [at] 24 years old. Being an entrepreneur gives me the power to come up with a product that is close to my heart, and [a chance to] offer something to inspire other women and help them express themselves.

“I wouldn’t get into just anything.

11 Books On My Bookshelf

One morning, I shared a photo of my morning Wheat Grass shot with my friends on Twitter and Instagram. In the background was my very full and messy bookshelf. I realized that many of the leisure books were gifted to me from others. Thought it would be fun to share some of those books that I return to time and time again:

1. How to Form a Nonfprofit Corporation, 8th Edition by Attorney Anthony Mancuso – Because I have helped a few friends, family and clients set up their non profits and 501(c)3 organizations, I purchased this book to get a handy resource guide. It’s an excellent resource guide for professionals and the everyday lay person. Recommend for those who cannot afford the usual $2,000 that many lawyers will charge to set up a 501(c)3.

2. Making Babies Book by Shosanna Easling – I am reviewing this book and giving away a copy which includes a DVD to one of my readers on my pregnancy blog, Bellyitch. I will review it this week, but so far, I love the imagery in the book and it seems like it was written from a nice place. It is based on organic, holistic, all natural principles. Good for the earthy mother types.

3. The Soul of a New Cuisine, A discovery of the foods and flavors of Africa by Marcus Samuelsson – I once did PR for the man who photographed many of the vibrant images in this book Gediyon Kifle, a phenomenal photographer who was the official MLK Memorial photographer and also captured my maternity portraits for my last kid. Samuelsson, who won Top Chef Masters on Bravo TV does a wonderful job capturing international cuisine from the mother land.

4. Enchantment, The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds and actions by Guy Kawasaki – I once sat on a panel with a Hollywood agent in Kingston, Jamaica. We were talking radio and cable piracy. When we were done, the agent gave me this book as a favor to Guy who asked him to spread the word about his book to influencers. Love it. Very insightful book. Great for thought leaders. If you are in the business of needing to build a brand or sway audiences, this book is a must read!

5. The Warrior Method: A Parents’ Guide to Rearing Healthy Black Boys by Raymond A. Winbush, PhD – A blogger friend of mine who once authored the very popular and award winning Ebonymommy.com for years before abandoning it a couple years ago, gave me this book as a gift as I have two black boys, my sons, that I am raising and she thought this would help. Good advice. Worth a read. Easy to get through. It is very focused on African American boys though as I have to blend it in with some West Indian and African sensibilities since those kids are of mixed national heritage.

6. Home Comforts, The Art and Science of Keeping House by Cheryl Mendelson – A friend gifted this to me and my husband when we purchased our first home 11 years ago. Wonderful resource book for anyone and any home. It’s pretty lengthy and there is lots of type and not much images to distract but the information in it is priceless and great for those who did not grow up in a home where the parents stressed housekeeping details. Perfect for ME!

7. The Complete Idiot’s Guide to The Bible by James. S. Bell Jr. and Stan Campbell. – I purchased this book because I wanted an easy to understand, simple book that broke down the bible. It’s great and very very easy to get through. You understand the entire bible in a way the puts it all in one big perspective for you.

8. The 4-Hour Work Week, by Timothy Ferriss – A friend of mine suggested this book at least a year ago to me and she was able to put the principles in place and actually quit her job as an attorney and has developed a successful career doing what she loves, being a travel photographer and working 4 hours a week. The advice in it is immeasurable. I’m enjoying combing through it still.

9. A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ismael Beah – I picked this book at one of my second homes, Starbucks, mainly because it is authored by one of my native country mates from Sierra Leone about his experiences being a soldier in Sierra Leone’s decades long civil war in the 90s. It’s a sobering story but quite informative while captivating.

10. Ancestor Stones by Aminiata Forna – My husband got this book for me as a Christmas present because it is written by a Sierra Leonean woman. It is a novel that provides a nice look inside the life of a Westernized woman (like me) who returns to her native land and discovers much about her roots. Love it!

11. The Writer Got Screwed, A Guide to the Legal and Business Practices of writing for the Entertainment Industry by Brooke A. Wharton – Because I once practiced entertainment law, I picked up this book to get some insights on helping my clients who were song and script writers. I recently rediscovered it as I am now looking into become a ghost writer for celebrities. I think if you are in the industry, this is a worthwhile read to avoid mistakes others have done and to know what to expect when you negotiate a deal

That’s it! I rarely find make time to read much anyway, but when I do, it is usually one of these 11 I like to return to often.

Letoya Luckett’s Gender Reveal. Hint: It Involved Balloons

latoya luckett

So…it appears the Balloon Gender Reveal is THE go-to way for celebs to share the sex of their soon-to-be born babies. (See Kate Hudson, Jessica SimpsonLily Aldridge). Add former Destiny’s Child bandmember, singer and actress Letoya Luckett to the mix.

The Greenleaf actress unveiled the sex of her soon-to-be born first child in a series of photos on Instagram after revealing her gorgeous and unique maternity photos.

In one image, she the songstress is holding a string attached to a bunch of PINK balloons!

“She’s already become the light of my life. Mommy & Daddy can’t wait to meet you baby girl! ???#IssaGurl.”

She earlier announced the pregnancy this Summer in June with the help of her husband Tommicus Walker’s daughter, 6-year-old Madison.

She posted a sweet letter to her future daughter in another post:

“Dear God,

I pray for my daughter to see the beauty in this world and the goodness in people. Show her how to raise her head in confidence, yet lower it with humility before You. Help her to be a life long learner. May she always gain knowledge, grow in understanding, and find wisdom. Please God, help her to close her eyes in restful slumber and open them in appreciation of Your glorious morning light.

Amen ??? ” then adding photo, hair, and styling credits.

Congrats!

Viral: Mom of the Most Famous Almost Born Triplets Gives Birth

One of my most viral photos and posts ever was about a mom-to-be who was expecting quadruplets. She was on the beach in a bikini. It awed and shocked a lot of people, that photo.

Fast forward about a decade later and I see another mom, this time expecting triplets, is viral. A 33-year old Norwegian woman caught a lot of attention recently over her periodic updates and bare bump photos of her growing bump.  Her Triplets of Copenhagen  has over 160,000 followers as of the date of this post.

“I’m reaching my limits now, and counting the days until delivery,” Maria of Copenhagen wrote at the 33-week mark. “The babies are kicking hard and moving around all day and night, to great discomfort. And my belly feels so full and stretched; I literally have to lift it with my hands to be able to turn over in bed.”

This Wednesday, Maria and her husband Landre welcomed their three bundles of joy: daughters Agnes and Iben and son Filip following an induction.

The couple grew a lot of fans also, some who gifted her and the babies gifts like knitted sweaters.

She also did a great job of documenting her journey, including baby shopping and all of the prep it takes to grow a family from two to five overnight.
