MTV OGs at the MTV Movie & TV Awards Red Carpet

Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag and Jennifer Farley at MTV Movie and TV Awards

Because the MTV Movie and TV Awards are so youth centered, there weren’t that many moms rocking the red carpet.

Of course though, the MTV OGs from The Hills and Laguna Beach Audrina Patridge and newest mom Heidi Montag were there, as was the cast from the network’s Jersey Shore: The Reunion which was up for the “Reality Royalty” award like Jennifer “JWoww” Farley and others.

collage from MTV Movie and TV Awards Red Carpet 2019

My fave looks came from Jada Pinkett Smith‘s silver pant suit, Brie Larson‘s Buterfly top and pant ensemble by David Koma and Vanderpump Rules co stars Lala Kent and Stassi Schroeder in a white turtleneck and miniskirt by Magda Butrym who both looked stunning!

Shchroeder’s barely there make up looked great and the feathered boa accented her look perfectly!

Serena Williams was nominated for “Best Real Life Hero” for her work on her short HBO docu-series, Being Serena

JWoww wore a black minidress from Fashion Nova and black and white pumps. Patridge accented her black long split gown with jewels: a Liven Co snake ring, a Zoe Lev “X” ring, and silver clutch. Montag went with a vintage Gucci jumpsuit.

TRENDING: How to Rock a Summer Hair Scarf

Summer hair scarf collage

Ready! Set! Summer!

Uncomplicate your Summer style by using one trendy trick to add fun and flare to your regular look: A scarf (or a twilly as it’s sometime called)

Weave a scarf in your braid, wear it as a wrap around a pixie or short cropped hair or tie it around a pony tail. The possibilities are numerous.

Go with a solid color to match an outfit with a print or pair a scarf with a bold print to liven up a plain dress or simple ensemble to make it summery.

Here’s a roundup of some fun Summer styles we peeped on PopSugar last Summer and a few of our faves.

Bumps, Crimson and Noir at 2019 CFDA Awards

It was all about fashion and flare this year at the 2019  Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards held on Monday, June 3, at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.

Third-time mom-to-be’s Jenna Bush Hager wore a crimson cape dress to the CFDA Fashion Awards that concealed her bump. She said the outfit got mixed reviews but her two daughters loved it. ††

Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Jennifer Lopez showed off her rock hard six pack in an orange custom Ralph Lauren crop top layered with 43,200 crystals and matching floor length skirt on the red carpet and on stage when she received her fashion icon award.

CFDA Chairwoman, Diane von Furstenberg said JLo was a no brainer when it came to picking her for the award.

“Jennifer Lopez uses clothes as a way to express confidence and power,” the designer said. “Both designers and fans look forward to her fashion statements.”

Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA, added, “Jennifer Lopez’s style is bold, uninhibited, and always memorable. Designers, including many of our CFDA Members, love to dress her for both stage and private moments.”

Lopez joins past recipient that include: Rihanna, Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Pharrell Williams, and Johnny Depp.

Also, Lily Aldridge, another bumpwatch alum looked sizzling hot in a classic and elegant crimson red gown by Brandon Maxwell.

Oh and one more! Teyana Taylor in Thom Browne.

Finally, not a mom but my country mate, I am loving former CNN anchor Isha Sesay in a short fro in a look by Christopher John Rogers.

These Memorial Day Inspired Nails and Make Up Are Drool-worthy

Congress has in place recommendations and rules that limits the way the American flag is displayed and used, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

For example, it should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise; it should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free; should never have anything placed on it; and never  advertising purpose, nor embroidered on cushions or handkerchiefs, printed on paper napkins or boxes, nor used as any portion of a costume.

That doesn’t stop make up and nail polish design aficionados from using the colors and Old Glory to inspire their designs and looks.

6 SECRETS OF LOOKING NATURAL WITH MAKEUP

So you want to look put together, but you don’t want to look like you’re ready for a night on the town.

Achieving a natural makeup look isn’t as easy as it seems, but here are six tips to help you look radiant and polished without looking like a clown:

Customize Your Base

Depending on your skin type and how confident you are about exposing your natural face, you can do a number of things with regards to your foundation or primer base.

If you simply need some overall coverage, you can make your base makeup look lighter and more natural by mixing it with moisturizer. This will give you a more dewy and refreshed appearance that looks less thick and caked on than without moisturizer, so it’s a great way of making your makeup look more natural without having to sacrifice the coverage you get.

For those of you with naturally good skin who only use foundation as part of a complete makeup look, skip the base altogether and opt for a shimmery moisturizer instead.

Brows

Getting your brows in order is a great way of making your makeup look natural because a striking brow can really frame your face, meaning you won’t have to worry so much about spending a long time on your makeup.

There are so many different options for brows nowadays, and plenty of tutorials online on how to achieve the perfect brows.

So, if you really want to make an impression without caking on layers of makeup, try your hand at eyebrow grooming and shading before even reaching for your other items of makeup.

Nude Lip

If you want to avoid looking like you have too much makeup on, one of the best ways to begin is to start with a nude lip. You simply cannot achieve a natural makeup look if you want to have red or purple lips.

Nude colors are tones of pink, blush, or might have slight brown undertones. Nude lips and eyes are the general palette you’re going to be working with if you want to look natural.

Just make sure you know your own skin tone before you buy makeup, because certain tones look better with warmer undertones, while others look better with cooler ones.

Avoid Eyeliner

There are one or two exceptions, but eyeliner and natural makeup looks do not go together very well. This is because eyeliner is a dramatic highlighter of the eyes, essentially, and is best reserved for high drama looks.

The most popular choice for eyeliner is still black, and it’s almost impossible to wear it in a manner that looks natural. The only exception to this is if you have an incredibly steady hand and can put a subtle line on the outer eye, at the corners.

This should follow the natural line of the eye and not extend into a wing or cat’s tail, of course. Still, this look is pretty difficult to achieve, so it’s best to avoid eyeliner completely when you want to look natural.

Accentuate

The key to a natural makeup look is to accentuate your natural features, not try to exaggerate them or create new features entirely.

For example, a cat’s eye eyeliner look might be fun and dramatic, but it’s giving you features you don’t have naturally, so it’s never going to look natural. If you want to be a pro at creating a natural makeup look, simply study your face and figure out what you like most about it. Do you have striking eyes? Then your natural makeup should highlight your eyes.

Maybe you don’t like your eyes, but you love your sharp cheekbones? Then you will highlight your cheekbones and avoid accentuating the eyes. A natural makeup look is all about accentuating, not creating.

Emphasize

Another excellent tip for achieving a natural look is to emphasize. Similar to accentuate, emphasizing is all about emphasizing one feature only. When you emphasize more than one feature, you will always end up with a heavy makeup look.

For instance, if you choose to accentuate your eyes with smoky eyeliner on the top and bottom, and then also highlight your lips in a berry red, you are going to end up with a heavy makeup look. It might look stunning, but it certainly won’t look natural.

As we’ve seen, you should avoid eyeliner altogether for natural makeup looks, generally speaking. Berry lips, even if they’re coupled with a nude eye, are never going to look natural either. Thus, the key to emphasizing when you’re trying to achieve a natural makeup look is to only go a few shades darker or lighter than your natural one.

Fashion and Culture Done Right

NEW ASICS GEL-Lyte V KL Shogun Honors Japanese Culture

SPONSORED POST

With all the talk of cultural appropriation with fashion brands of late, it may be refreshing to see that athletic footwear company ASICS partner with an actual Japanese company when it came up with its new brand of sneakers that honor Japanese culture

KICKS LAB collaborates with ASICS for the new GEL-Lyte V KL Shogun footwear. One of the hottest trending ASICS deals for 2019, the stylish GEL-Lyte V KL Shogun sneakers combine the most modern innovative technology with classic Japanese inspired design. Just one in a line that promises to leave an indelible imprint on the fashion world, the new “KL Shogun” is a must-have for every serious ASICS fan.

Unique Japan Inspired Design

ASICS continues to break the fashion mold with its unique footwear design and inspiration. Not just content to be the best tennis shoes with the highest sports performance, ASICS has a commitment to high fashion and innovation. This year’s GEL-Lyte V KL Shogun shoes continues the tradition set last year with the GEL-Lyte III. The “KL Shogun” and “KL Samurai” are all part of this very unique union between ASICS and the KICKS Lab in Japan.

Kicks Lab

The premium sneaker boutique collaborated with ASICS to create a popular sneaker series inspired by traditional Japanese culture and history. Taking inspiration from warrior Samurai, ninjas, and even Japanese writing, the ASICS sneaker collection balance carefully the power of rich tradition and the promise of innovation. ASICS fans look forward to many more collaborations between ASICS and innovators like the KICKS Lab.

Bold Branding

The GEL-Lyte III in bold white and black resulted from a collaboration between ASICS and the sneakers disrupter KICKS LAB. The GEL-Lyte III is a lightweight shoe in premium leatherand suede. The custom insoles housed Japanese characters. KICKS lab touted that the footwear was ideal for ninjas. The ASICS GEL Lyte III answers the whimsical question, “What if a Ninja wears a pair of sneakers?” Answer? A light shoe that enables the ultimate in sports performance.

ASICS advertising for the footwear collection is as memorable as the shoes, using Japanese music in bold but precise strokes. The simple GEL-Lyte III ad shows images of the sneakers moving to a soundtrack of Japanese Taiko Drums. The ASICS Tiger “KL Shogun” ad is similar. The dark red and black shoe floats in space while Daiko drums hit dramatically behind. Simple and stunning, the “KL Shogun” from Kicks Lab continues to be the ultimate footwear of Japanese street fashion.

Red and Black Design

This line of shoes combines a bold reflective red with dark black. Designs boast of warrior silhouetted against a sea of red, Japanese lettering, and other iconic symbols. The collaboration promises to combine the latest in sneaker technology with a unique style that can only come from Japan.

The GEL-Lyte KL Shogun sneakers feature red and black, with gray materials to balance the bold color choice. Reflectormaterial adds to the red color. The “Shogun” imagery in black and red pop out from the shoe. While a sports performance shoe, the “KL Shogun” compliments every scenario. Perfect for the courts, the track, or the dance floor. Enjoy these striking shoes and add them to your essential

Spring Style: How to Wear a Crop Top In Your 40s

The weather, generally, is getting seasonally sunnier and nicer out which means it is time for open toed shoes, light weight clothing, pastel and warmer colors…and more revealing clothing.

One trend that has come and gone and come again has been the crop top. It’s not a style that everyone can pull off becasue a lot of us moms do not have the same tight tummy we had before kids.

Fear not, there are ways that some of us can pull off this trend without even having to reveal much if none of our tummy at all!

Wear it in a dark color with a high waist maxi skirt with a fun print like Catherine Summers a few years back in the Not Dressed Lamb blog because it draws attention to the print and reveals just a wee bit of the waist.

I like Ivy Park Circle Knit Cropped Long-Sleeve ($58) or one of these:

Or have no skin at all showing by wearing a belt with it or wear high waisted pants so high they cover your tummy the way  Cate Blanchett wore to a couple of red carpet events.

Or you can say whatevs and pair them with high waisted sweatpants like I did this way, but go with a solid hue for a monochromatic effect.

Whatever you want, have it your way!

Trend: Posh Easter Baskets

Bellyitch Rewind

Posh parents are foregoing the traditional Easter baskets  filled with candy, plastic toys, and bubbles and opting for baskets with more expensive items inside.

One New York City mom, Laura Rolston, told local station CBS that she is having her son Christopher’s picture taken with the Easter Bunny at Roosevelt Field Mall and then giving him a basket of clothes and more elaborate gifts.

“Stuffed animals and bath toys and stuff like that,” the Patchogue resident told the station. “Little clothing for him. It’s definitely a little more than when I was a kid. I’m a new parent and I’m excited and I don’t mind spoiling my little boy a bit.”

It’s part of a new trend to make Easter baskets that rival the best birthday and Christmas presents — complete with clothing, toys, and even electronics.

Some parents say the extravagant and gift filled Easter basket are a result of parents’ tried to steer their kids away from eating so much candy. Still, others say it’s gone too far.

“We hear that these baskets, parents are putting them online and saying, ‘Look at my basket, my basket is bigger and better than the other basket’ and again, at the end of the day, it should be about tradition, should be about a holiday, shouldn’t be about who has the biggest, better, most awesome, expensive basket,”  Lyss Stern of the DivaMoms.com blog told a local Fox station.

5 Rules of the Facebook Fashionista

Photo: Tamara Bellis

I shared this blog post about Facebook tagging rules on one of my old blogs, MsChiefmakers and I’m resharing it here because I thought it was a fun share:

Along with all the positive impact of the social networking tool, Facebook, in bringing old friends, family and colleagues together, another effect is that it created a forum for Fashionistas to show off their uber cute outfits and looking fab photographed with friends on the social circuit.

Unlike celebrities however, the average Fashionista usually can’t afford a closet of outfits she will wear only once, but she has to keep up the appearance of being trendy and fashion-forward.

Also, she cannot be caught in a compromising or unflattering position for fear of it getting out and ruining her Fashonista reputation.

An unintended consequence of Facebook is that it creates a memorial of your outfits that can be easily tracked, making it easy for your fashion nemesis to spot when you’ve repeated an outfit, for example.

What to do? What to do?

Abide by these 5 rules of Facebook Fashionistas that’s what!

1. Never be tagged wearing the same outfit at an event at a party Or keep a healthy 10 event distance before repeating an outfit. If you find yourself in this dilemma and spot a camera aimed in your direction and you know the camera person (like me) will likely upload the photo and TAG you in it, you can play it safe by turning your head so that you are not recognized and get tagged.

People who like to tag random elbows, backs and shoes they recognize in a photo are not good people or pressed to share with their friends that you were at their event.

Notwithstanding the rules, it’s safe to throw a jacket overtop a dress you wore before 10 events especially if the jacket stands out and deflects from the garment underneath that breaks this rule. It’s also safe to rearrange pieces of a repeat outfit into a totally different ensemble. Scarves, hats, and funky earrings also help deflect the attention from a possible repeat.

You can always swap outfits with a friend or sister. That works too!

2. Keep friends who know well enough to NOT tag you looking bloated, cross-eyed, with your mouth open and/or with food in it, looking like a doofus, hunched over, dumpy or caught in an under the chin shot which is a bad angle for all people young, old, short, bald, fat, skinny.

Facebook Fashionistas look out for each other. We crop, edit, photoshop and definitely DO NOT tag friends in unflattering or compromising positions or photos. People who are willing to tag you because they think THEY look good in a shot and totally ignore the fact that you have a dollop of barbecue sauce smeared on your chin should be warned. Privately. Inboxed of the offense. Politely, of course. Put a smiley or “lol” after your warning so not to offend. If they commit the act again, see Rule 4.

3. Do not be afraid to exercise the UNTAG button. Friends, if your Facebook pal untags a photo of herself in a  photo you have tagged, do not take offense. It’s what Facebook Fashionistas do.

4.  Exercise the power of the privacy settings.

If there is a friend who insists on tagging you in unflattering photos and does not abide by the Facebook Fashionista rules, feel free to block, unfriend or put them in a group of folks who you ban from seeing all photos or posts by you.

You can take them out of Facebook Jail after a while.

By then, your lack of constant contact with that person would downgrade you on their Facebook feed anyway, saving you from having to deal with them when they discover the last post they read from you was 2 years ago.

Photo: Clarisse Meyer

5. Always insist on photos being taken at eye level or above to capture your best angles and portray you looking your leanest.

Only super skinny models can get away with that up the nose angle. Since most people, even professional photographers at parties use digital camera, exercise your right to inspect and approve an image.

Don’t risk having a fugly photo posted all over Facebook by not standing over the photographer and insisting he delete an unflattering photo. If you aren’t able to have it deleted, thank God Facebook lets you untag.

If you know the album owner well enough, you can inbox and request they delete the photo from their album. Fellow Facebook Fashionistas usually oblige.

Get out there and LOOK GOOD girls!
