Katy Perry is Pregnant

Katy Perry bump in Never Worn White

Katy Perry is pregnant with her and actor fiance Orlando Bloom‘s first child together, which she revealed in the music video for her latest song that debuted Wednesday night.

The American Idol judge teased the news in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon while announcing the debut of the video for her latest project, the song “Never Worn White“, a song about fear of commitment.

“You are cordially invited to the premiere of #NeverWornWhite,” she captioned a short clip of the video where Perry can be seen in a dress made of flowers and one in a long peach ball gown with two of her hands cradling a sizeable baby bump! “Join me on the @YouTube watch page tonight at 8:30pm PT and chat with me (promise not a bot! ) before the video premieres at 9pm PT!”

By the time the full music video debuted at midnight, fans could ascertain clearly from the last frame that she is indeed expecting as she stood in the silhouette holding her bare bump.

Fans immediately began speculating by asking if she was expecting.

From PEOPLE:

Perry previously exchanged vows with now-ex-husband Russell Brand in a private but extravagant ceremony in India in 2010, less than 10 months after the pair got engaged. In 2017, Brand, 44, wed Laura Gallacher, with whom he shares two daughters: Peggy, 19 months, and Mabel, 3.

Meanwhile, Bloom wed Kerr, 36, in an intimate ceremony in July 2010 just one month after their engagement was confirmed. The model has since married Snapchat co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, with whom she shares two sons: Myles, whom they welcomed in October 2019, and Hart, who was born in May 2018.

“Never Worn White” is Perry’s first song release of 2020 after dropping tracks “Never Really Over,” “Small Talk” and “Harleys in Hawaii” last year.

Inside Shahs of Sunset’s GG Gharachedaghi’s Moroccan-Themed Baby Shower

Shahs of Sunset star Gholnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi celebrated the upcoming arrival of her first child at a Moroccan -themed baby shower over the weekend.

She also announced during the event that she is expecting a baby boy. Her friend, event planner Anita Gohari, shared video and photos of the event which featured the name “Elijah” spelled out in gold decorative lettering before a backdrop above the dessert tableand the mom-to-be changed into a blue sweater with big blue eyelashes and announced the baby’s sex as well.

Earlier, she wore a neutral color bump-hugging dress with ruching and paid homage to her son sex and name with blue yarn weaved in her box braids and blue tips on her nails with the letter E on each finger.

She confirmed the gender news on a subsequent Instagram story.

“Hey y’all, we are at my baby shower and I just did a wardrobe change. As you guys can see, true blue — I’m having a boy,” the Shahs of Sunset star said on her Instagram Story, while showing off her blue and white manicure.

Gharachedaghi’s co-star, Reza Farahan, also shared the baby’s name in an Instagram post.

“Celebrating @gg_golnesa and sweet baby Elijah at her baby shower!” Farahan captioned a photo with the mom-to-be on Instagram. “Make sure to catch an all new episode of #shahs tonight 9pm @bravotv , it’s ?????? and you’re not going to want to miss a minute of it!”

In October, Gaharachedaghi (who finalized her divorce from Shalom Yeyoushalmi in late 2018) shared that she was expecting her first baby after undergoing IVF using a sperm donor.

They also had salmon, hummus, shrimp, sliders, fries, chicken skewers and lamb chops and got to enjoy a Persian tea (chai) station in honor of Gharachedaghi’s Iranian ancestry.

Hookahs and cocktails like mojitos and micheladas and other alcoholic drinks were available, as well as a variety of flavored waters.

Among her Shahs family attending the event were Mike Shouhed and his girlfriend Paulina Ben-Cohen, Reza Farahan and husband Adam Neely, Destiney Rose, and Shah’s alum Lilly Ghalichi (who attended with her husband, Dara Mir).

Per PEOPLE:

The reality star also used the party as a chance to give back, asking guests to bring unopened essentials for babies (diapers, baby wipes, formula, blankets, clothings, bottles, pacifiers, etc.) in lieu of gifts. All items were donated to Baby2Baby, a Los Angeles-based charity that provides children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with necessities that every child deserves. “Everyone’s like, ‘The whole point of having a baby shower is to get the free gifts.’ But I told everybody, ‘I do not want gifts,’ ” Gharachedaghi explained to PEOPLE. “I just feel like, I’m not someone who likes to splurge; I can afford the necessities, and don’t want to spoil my son with fancy, fancy things. So why not use this opportunity to help others for people lacking in life?”

10 Diaper Alternatives When You’ve Run Out, On a Plane Or Out and About

This is a repost of a previous publication of this list but as I share again, I realize this advice can be used for moms who ran out of diapers and cannot afford to buy more. In which case, one of the suggestions below, dish cloths cost $12 for a pack of 10  12 inch by 12 inc

It’s happened to me once during an overseas flight with baby: we ran out of diapers and the airline didn’t have any spare. Yikes. We had to improvise and it worked until the flight landed.

Here are 10 alternatives to a diaper that mom and dad or caregiver can resort to in the rare but common chance that they’d be without a diaper in public.

Listed below are ten alternatives to baby diapers in a pinch.

Burp Rag

I’ve used cloth diapers as burp rags, so why not the other way around? Usually they are thick and will do the trick for a short amount of time at least. If you usually use cloth diapers and have a liner, then it should work a little better.

laundry detergent

Wipes

If you have the kind of wipes that need to be wetted prior to use or if you have any wipes that have dried out, they can be used in a pinch while you pick up some more. I would not advise using wipes that are wet, as this could cause a rash.

pulse ox

Receiving Blanket

pulse ox

I wouldn’t suggest using your favorite one, just in case, but if you are out and about and have no other options then this will work. Most people have a receiving blanket in their diaper bag for infants, and it is large enough that you can fold it a few times for added layers or tie it around them.

Maxi Pad.

This may be a little embarrassing if others see you use one; however, it is also very effective. Maxi pads are made to be absorbent and can hold enough to give you the time needed to get some real diapers. Make sure you have it secured into a diaper bottom or onesie, so it doesn’t slip.

pulse ox

Cheese Cloth

I would recommend folding this one as many times as you can and place it in a diaper bottom or onesie, the same as you would for a maxi pad. Since cheese cloth is made to have liquid wrung through it, you want to make sure you have as many layers as possible, and don’t rely on it lasting a long time.

pulse ox

Dishtowel

Again, I wouldn’t use your favorite one, but at least this one will be more absorbent and may buy you some additional time.

pulse ox

Wash Cloth

Depending on the size of your washcloths, you may want to use more than one, and either fold them or wrap them around and tie at the waist.

pulse ox

Pillow Case

Go for cotton and not silk or satin for best results. Bunch it together and tie or pin it up like a cloth diaper.

pulse ox

Napkins

I would suggest cloth, and not paper, but again stay away from your favorites. You can couple a few together for added protection and pin up the same as a cloth diaper.

pulse ox

Paper Towels

Notice the plural on towels as one will not cut it. I would use about four or five and fold up to insert the same as the maxi pad listed above.

Good luck!

Pregnant Malika Haqq Gets Heat For Promoting Plastic Surgeon

malika haqq

malika haqq

A few folks on the Internets were going after Malika Haqq for a post with a plastic surgeon before she gave birth.

In it, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians frequent guest, posed with famed celebrity doc to the stars Dr. Jason Diamond.

“Stopped by just to see my fav @drjasondiamond and I’m fully book(ed) for my post pregnancy makeover. I can’t wait!” Haqq, who is due to give birth next month, captioned the photo of the two of them smiling ear to ear.

The angry response from fans was swift encouraging her to “not do it”.

A few backed her decision but the next day after posting a series of underwater maternity photos, she clapped back.

“Who said  I was getting surgery?!” Haqq commented back. “I don’t need it. Never have boo boo.”

My thoughts:

1) it was probably a sponsored promotion with a partner that unfortunately, perhaps, failed to include the proper FTC disclosures.

In which case, there is no guarantee that she will actually have get work done right after having a baby and will skip attempting to snap back naturally.

2) If she didn’t intend to get surgery done to expedite the return to her pre-pregnancy shape, she would not be the first. As actress and tv personality Tia Mowry told me years ago at an expo for expecting moms, people were throwing money at her encouraging her to get surgery right after baby

A lot of them do it, I suspect but do not let anyone know about it and lie about dropping the weight by breastfeeding and doing yoga.

your thoughts? Hit me up on Bellyitch in social media  on IG, Twitter, Facebook  and Pinterest!

In the meantime, she was busy promoting Pretty Little Things in a cute underwater maternity shoot:

Women’s History Month: 6 Titles By Female Authors to ‘Read’ {FREE On Audible}

Today is the first day of Women’s History Month.

What better way to celebrate it by digesting a title from a woman author. In coordination with my partner at Audible, I’ve assembled a list of 6 titles to get today and digest this month for FREE when you sign up.

1. “Emma” by Jane Austen (a classic)

” What a delightful way to enjoy a Jane Austen story! This dramatized version alternates between dialogue and Emma Thompson’s narration over music. I thought the narrators were all excellent, and the sound effects and music really pulled me into the world of Emma. If you are an Austen fan, be aware that this is not a word for word reading. Rather, it is a new way to enjoy a familiar story. ” – Reader Reviewer

2. “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens

“Narrator Cassandra Campbell serves up a bushel of Carolina accents in this debut novel by nature writer Delia Owens. Campbell’s accents give the mix of classes and regions in the story the same realistic detail Owens provides for the marsh…. Prepare to be enchanted and haunted.” (AudioFile)

3. “Sing, Unburied Sing” by Jesmyn Ward

“While the magical element is new in Ward’s fiction, her allusiveness, anchored in her interest in the politics of race, has been pointing in this direction all along. It takes a touch of the spiritual to speak across chasms of age, class, and color. … The signal characteristic of Ward’s prose is its lyricism. ‘I’m a failed poet,’ she has said. The length and music of Ward’s sentences owe much to her love of catalogues, extended similes, imagistic fragments, and emphasis by way of repetition. … The effect, intensified by use of the present tense, can be hypnotic.” — The New Yorker

4. “City of Girls” by Blair Brown

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of Eat, Pray, Love and The Signature of All Things, a delicious novel of glamour, sex, and adventure, about a young woman discovering that you don’t have to be a good girl to be a good person.

5. “Becoming” by Michelle Obama

“Obama writes with a refreshing candor, as though her keen awareness of her celebrity is matched only by her eagerness to shed the exhausting veneer that helped enable her husband’s political rise. ‘My husband is making his own adjustments to life after the White House, catching his own breath,’ she writes at the end of the preface. ‘And here I am, in this new place, with a lot I want to say.’” — The Atlantic

6. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

“Though Thomas’s story is heartbreakingly topical, its greatest strength is in its authentic depiction of a teenage girl, her loving family, and her attempts to reconcile what she knows to be true about their lives with the way those lives are depicted — and completely undervalued — by society at large.” — Publishers Weekly

Coronavirus Outbreak: What Parents and Expecting Mom Should Know

boy with mask coronavirus

The newest coronavirus just took its first US victim as of this publication – a person near Seattle – and by now, parents and pregnant women, and many others are in panic mode.

The most recent reports indicate that over 84,100 people have been sickened with the virus and about 2,870 have died since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China in December 2019. Although the virus was mainly in China, it has since spread to at least 56 nations including 62 confirmed cases in America.

On Tuesday, representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the coronavirus would most likely spread to communities in the United States.

Watch this excellent explainer video from the CDC NOW!!!

IMG_7110

“It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen anymore but rather more of a question of exactly when this will happen,” said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, during a news media briefing. “We are asking the American public to work with us to prepare, in the expectation that this could be bad.”

As the New York Times recently reported:

Right now, the bulk of the cases in the United States are connected to the Diamond Princess, the cruise ship that was docked in Japan after it was revealed that some guests on board had tested positive for coronavirus. For those who have been diagnosed in the United States, most had traveled to China, although two cases occurred after contact with an infected person at home.

Two cases in California, one revealed on Wednesdayanother on Friday, had no known connection to previous cases, suggesting community spread.

The paper also did a great round up of advice and here are the critical excerpts that pertain to children and pregnant women who are the main focus of this site and I highlighted the points that jumped out to me in larger font and italics:

Should parents be worried?

The good news, Dr. Meissner said, is that cases in children have been very rare.

According to a report published in JAMA in February, most people infected with the coronavirus were between 49 and 56 years old.

“It appears that when kids do get it, they have much milder symptoms,” Dr. Meissner said.

It’s also important to keep things in perspective, Dr. Mulligan added. “Flu is killing a lot more Americans, including children,” he said. “There’s no doubt the influenza virus will cause many more illnesses, hospitalizations and even deaths than this coronavirus.”

[What parents should know about this season’s flu.]

What steps should parents take at this point?

You should take the same precautions you would take to protect your child from the common cold or flu.

“We know for sure that it spreads readily from person to person, akin to influenza,” Dr. Schaffner said of the new coronavirus. “We also now think it can spread from people who are infected with the virus, but not yet showing symptoms. We don’t know if this is a frequent occurrence, but it can happen.”

As always, encourage children to wash their hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. (Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can work in a pinch, but they’re generally not as effective as soap and water, added Dr. Meissner.)

Hands should be washed before children eat, after they use the bathroom, come inside from outdoors or touch something dirty like garbage. If you see someone coughing or sneezing, try to keep your kids as far away from them as possible.

“We believe that the respiratory secretions from coronaviruses can’t travel more than six feet,” Dr. Meissner explained.

Travel is also fine, Dr. Meissner added, but use common sense and caution.

For the most part, domestic trips and even most international ones are still OK (even with the isolated cases of potential community spread in California).

The C.D.C. has issued a Level 3 advisory (which means avoiding nonessential travel) for China and South Korea, and a Level 2 advisory (meaning older adults and those with chronic medical conditions should consider postponing travel, and those who are going should practice enhanced precautions) if you’re traveling to Japan, Iran or Italy.

If you’re planning a cruise for spring break, the C.D.C. also urges you to avoid ones that travel to or from Asia.

If there is an outbreak in your town, Dr. Schaffner said you should practice what’s known as social distancing.

This means staying at home and binging on TV, rather than going out and about to movies, sports events and other activities. Schools may close, at least temporarily, and people who can work from home will be encouraged to do so.

For now, Dr. Schaffner said, if you and your kids still haven’t gotten a flu shot, get one.

“We’re talking so much about the coronavirus, but in the meantime, there have been 16,000 flu-related deaths this year in the United States, with 105 in children,” he stressed. “Parents are used to the flu, so they don’t worry as much about it. But taking steps to protect their children from it are much more important.”

I’m pregnant. Should I be concerned?

Yes, but no more than you would be about coming down with the flu.

During pregnancy, parts of your immune system are depressed, which makes you more susceptible to complications from viruses such as influenza and chickenpox, explained Dr. Steven Gordon, M.D., an infectious disease specialist at the Cleveland Clinic. (Pregnant women, for example, are nearly 3.5 times more likely to end up in the hospital from the flu than women who aren’t expecting, according to a study published in June 2019 in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.)

“It makes sense that a pregnant woman would be at higher risk of complications from this virus than a nonpregnant one,” he said. “But you also need to keep in mind that your risk in general of getting this disease is very, very low.”

Be safe out there!

Study: Half of Children Have Asked a Parent to Put A Phone Away

texting mom

texting mom

There is no doubt that smartphones are impacting the way we all communicate with one another on an interpersonal level, even parents with their children.

The average smartphone owner unlocks their phone 150 times a day.

We laugh roughly 15 times a day, yet check our phones ten times more than that. Smartphones have become a permanent factor in our daily lives in the last decade.

In a recent OnePoll report on behalf of The Genius of Play, half of the parents surveyed admitted that their children had asked them to put their phones away.

Of course, that request is easier said than done because 69 percent of the parents surveyed said they actually feel “addicted’ to their phones while at the same recognizing it is a problem among their offsprings. Seventy four percent queried said they worry their child spends too much time staring at a screen leading 65 percent to reveal that they have limits on their child’s screen time — usually about two hours per day.

But why did they give then phones in the first place? Besides the fact that every major mobile phone companies offer generous family plans, according to those responding, they succumbed to the pressure to give their children a phone for education, entertainment, discipline and child rearing.

Respondents indicated they use phones to keep a child occupied (58 percent), to reward for good behavior (53 percent) and to helping a child calm down (52 percent).

Author Denise D’Angelo Roland wrote “Please, Look Up at Me, to stress the importance of spending time together in a digital world.

This is true for adults as well as kids. When kids ask adults to put down digital devices, they are really asking, maybe even begging for human connection – something that decreases as tablet use goes up, Roland suggests.

The research and scholarship into how mobile technology affects childhood brain development is unclear or inconsistent, but the emphasis should first be placed on real world solutions for education and distraction, the author suggests.

“Our kids are born into the world with a natural desire for love, attention, belonging and nurturing,” Roland states. “They do not innately know anything about the digital world. So, when they arrive and find us distracted—what message is that sending to our babies and children? What potential ripple effect does it cause? Let’s pull the pendulum back a bit and remember the value in catching their gaze as much as we possibly can. It matters.”

Vanessa Bryant Eulogizes her husband Kobe Bryant and Daughter Gigi

Vanessa Bryant

It was a somber bittersweet day in the Staples Center in Los Angeles when 20,000 mourners packed into the indoor stadium that the late NBA Player Kobe Bryant built to bid him and his 13-year old daughter Gianna farewell.

His widow Vanessa Bryant, a celebrity mom covered often on the blog, gave a heart breaking but still beautiful eulogy of her husband and daughter. As USA Today summarized in its coverage:

She mourned the loss of her “baby girl” Gianna, “a sweet and gentle soul” and preternaturally talented athlete who she said was destined for WNBA greatness. She remembered her husband as a soulful romantic with a “tender heart” and a “doting” father for whom family always came first.

“They were funny, happy, silly, and they loved life,” Vanessa said of Kobe and Gianna, adding: “God knew they couldn’t be on this earth without each other. He had to bring them home to heaven together.”

Beyonce Knowles Carter opened the event performing one of her hits, “XO” which she said was one of Kobe’s favorite song with lyrics that go, “In the darkest hour / I’ll search through the crowd / Your face is all I can see / I’ll give you everything.” She later burst into a soulful rendition of her song, “Halo

Alicia Keys moved the crowd by playing Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” a piece she said was favored by Kobe and Vanessa.

Keys had previously paid tribute to Kobe and Gianna on the night they died, performing “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye” alongside Boyz II Men at the Grammy Awards last month.

At various points throughout the event, the crowd broke out in chants of “Kobe! Kobe!”

Retired NBA stars Michael Jordan, Dwyane Wade, and Tim Duncan along with entertainer Jennifer Lopez and her fiance retired baseball player Alex Rodriguez and late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel were all in attendance for the ceremony, along with other celebs like friends of the Bryant family Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West.

The date chosen for the memorial — Feb. 24, or 2/24/20 — is a combination of their jersey numbers. Gianna wore No. 2 and her dad wore No. 24 in the latter part of his 20-season career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Tickets went for variations of 2 and 4, $24.24 or $224 for two.

Several NBA legends like former teammates  Shaquille O’Neal and Jordon gave rousing speeches by my fave was by University of Oregon player Sabrina Ionesco who gave a wonderful speech and tribute to girls sports too in honor of GiGi .

Proceeds will go to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation which raises money to provide sports education and training services for young women. The foundation was originally established as the Mamba Sports Academy, but Bryant’s widow announced that the name was changed to honor their daughter.

Kobe Bryant gave himself the moniker “Black Mamba” after a character in the Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill.

“Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation,” Vanessa Bryant wrote on her Instagram page announcing the name change.

The two were headed to a game during a basketball tournament at a sports arena in Thousand Oaks, California named for Mamba when the helicopter they were riding in crashed killing them along with Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli, 56, his wife Keri Altobelli, 46, and their daughter Alyssa Altobelli, 14; Sarah Chester, 45, and her daughter Payton Chester, 13; as well as Mamba Sports Academy coach Christina Mauser, 38; and pilot Ara Zobayan, 50.

Also from a NBCNews report:

Bryant and his daughter were traveling to Gigi’s basketball game in a Sikorsky S-76B helicopter, when it crashed into a hillside in Calabasas, Calif., on Jan. 26. All eight passengers and the pilot were killed.

The Bryants were laid to rest in a private ceremony in Southern California on Feb. 7.

Before the public ceremony got underway, the Los Angeles Times reported Vanessa Bryant has filed a lawsuit against Island Express Helicopters, the company that operated the chopper. NPR later confirmed the lawsuit with the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board said in its investigative update this month that the chopper’s rotors were both powered and turning at the time of impact, which it said indicates “the engines showed no evidences of uncontained or catastrophic internal failure.”

Photos taken shortly after the crash show conditions were foggy in the hills above Calabasas, but as NPR’s Russell Lewis has reported, the final investigative findings are not expected for at least a year.

How to Pick or Predict Your Baby’s Gender, According to Old Wives Tales

Photo by Fallon Michael on Unsplash

A lot of women want to know what sex their baby will be before they give birth. There are tons of old wives tales that offer clues and these non-scientific predictors, although not proven for sure, are sometimes accurate.

If you are having a boy, it’s been said the fetal heartbeat on the doppler fetal monitor will be over 14o beats per minute. Others have said if you are having a boy, you will carry the baby out front like a basketball, develop large and dark nipples or bright yellow color of the urine are all signs too.

Some of the signs indicating a baby girl, according to the Old wives, include a heart rate of less than 140 per minute, bulges in the back and the hips, watermelon looking belly, dull yellow urine color, breasts that are blossom and appearance less than normal.

Then there are the fun voo doo tricks.

Tie your wedding ring to a string and watch it sway over your bell. If it sways in a circular motion, then it is thought to be a boy whereas the sideways movement indicates baby girl. Craving for salty and sour foods are known to be there in case of baby boy whereas sweets and orange juice cravings indicate baby girl.

Another way to find out is by adding your current age to the month of perception and if the number comes in even then it is a boy and if it comes an odd number then it is considered to be a girl.

There are even thing they say you can do to make yourself more likley to conceive one gender or another.

If you wish to conceive a baby girl then prescribed diet includes food items like corn, eggs, yogurt, coffee, beans, plums, fish, meat and liver. The restricted food items should be oranges, watermelon, alkaline foods and potatoes.

If you wish to conceive a boy then you should include lentils, pine nuts, sprouts, almonds, avocado and royal jelly in your diet.

Dairy products and foods having calcium and magnesium should be avoided.  Here is an old wives tale infographic shared before for you to Pin.
