Did Beyonce’s Halloween Lil Kim Tribute Aim to Squash Last Year’s Fan Feud?

So Last July, biz mogul and rapper Sean “P Diddy” Combs sent the fans of Beyonce and Lil Kim into battle when he ended a tribute to Lil Kim on the Hip Hop Honors award show by stating, “Your hardcore raps, the way you walk, the way you talk — there’s only one Queen Bee. All hail the queen!”

That comment sent the Bey Hive fans into a tizzy as Diddy’s own Revolt TV conveniently blogged about after the event.

Perhaps to squelch all of the feuding between camps of fans of Queen Bey (also pronounced liked “bee”) with Beyhive members sparring with Lil Kim’s own Killer Bee Hive, the new mom-to-three set the record straight herself by posting her tribute to Lil Kim on her personal Tumblr website.

The first image in a series read “Hip Hop Would Not Be the Same Without Our Original Queen Bee”. It was part of the “Single Ladies” singer’s tribute titled “Halloween 2017: Lil’ Kim Appreciation.

We followed both women during their respective pregnancies on this blog so we can definitely appreciate the sister love!!!

We had already featured earlier this week Beyonce pulling off Kim’s costume back when the pint-sized rapper was featured in Missy Elliot’s “The Rain” video.

In Bey’s November 3rd blog post, we see that Mrs. Carter went one step further and further and further…knocking it all the way out the ball park!

And the original Queen Bee herself loved it, sharing them all on her personal Twitter page:

Here are the comparison looks in this video collage in Harper’s Bazaar feature:

From Left to Right:

a) From Lil Kim’s feature in Manhattan File magazine in 2001

b) From Lil Kim during her “No Way Out Tour” in 1997.

c) From Lil Kim from Today’s Black Woman magazine feature in 2000 taken by Michael Thompson

d) From Lil Kim attending the The Source magazine’s Hip Hop Awards in 1999.

e) From Lil Kim’s feature in Missy Elliot‘s “The Rain” music video

Here’s what Lil Kim had to say about the feature:

“I’m still recovering from @beyonce’s slayage from Halloween and then this happens… #beyonce #lilkim #queenbee #tookusabreak #beehive #lilkimseason,” Lil’ Kim shared on Instagram after the Grammy winner shared new photos of her costumes. “Lawwwwddddd, my wig is all the way in China!!! SLAYED. You did that B!”

She continued, “Come all the way thru Bey!! @beyonce the resemblance is crazy!! Match made in heaven. Every single detail is on point! I love you to pieces Bey.”

For the final share, Lil Kim shared her appreciation for Jay who dressed in Biggie Smalls a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G.’s signature red jacket, jeans and Timberland boots from an already widely circulated photo taken at Kelly Rowland’s Halloween party this year.

“This is so adorable and it’s even cuter because Jay-Z and Biggie were friends and he has his mannerisms down pat,” she shared. “I love U Queen Bey and King Jay.”

Beyonce wasn’t the only one to do multiple Halloween costumes paying homage to one person. I actually went as Beyonce’s 2011 video for “Countdown” (WATCH IT HERE) when she was 6 months pregnant with her first child, Blue Ivy. This tribute is fitting given I have a pregnancy blog. I couldn’t decide on which of the two dozen or so outfit/looks she wore in that video so I settled on four.

Unlike Bey, who probably wore her get ups to various Halloween parties and events, I simply rummaged my and my husband and kids’ closets and came up with outfits and used wigs I already own. I photographed myself via selfies or my iPhone’s timer app after the kids had come back from trick-or-treating and had settled in bed. I did do them all on Halloween so they count as Halloween costumes nonetheless! ha!

Beyoncé, Jessica Alba at Kelly Rowland’s Halloween Party

Our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Kelly Rowland hosted a party attended by quite a few of our other past celeb mom features.

The singer herself looked fierce dressed as the outrageous and bombastic character Helen Strangé who model and singer Grace Jones played in the cult classic Eddie Murphy film Boomerang.

Her hubby Tim Witherspoon dressed as Murphy from his stand up comedy motion picture  film Delirious.

Her Destiny’s Child band mate Beyoncé Knowes Carter was there as rapper and fellow Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum rapper Lil Kim when she appeared in rapper Missy Elliot‘s “The Rain” music video while her husband Shawn “Jay Z” Carter dressed as the late rapper Notorious B.I.G.

Also in attendance was currently preggers Jessica Alba who came dressed as the title character from the movie  Juno.

Fun times!

International Day of the Girl Aims to End Sad Stats of Girls, Globally

October 11 is the International Day of the Girl, a campaign launched by the United Nations dedicated to highlighting barriers and empowering girls to reach their full potential.

It is a movement meant to bring attention to advocacy projects and initiatives around the world to promote the education, safety and security of young girls globally.

Specifically, the mission is “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.”

On this day, activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere.

It’s also a national day of action to elevate awareness of  gender justice and youth rights.

In 2015 when leaders signed up to the UN Sustainable Development Goals – the Global Goals – they made a promise – to empower all girls.

Although there has been progress, the Global Goals campaign call for keeping the pressure on world leaders deliver and every girl grows up healthy, safe, empowered and able to fulfill her dreams.

Also to coincide with the day, the Save the Children nonprofit released a study which revealed that  biased views on the value of girls and their roles within the classroom and society begin to show as early as fourth grade. The global humanitarian organization surveyed boys and girls in the United States and the West African nations of Sierra Leone and Côte d’Ivoire and  found that a striking number of young boys – and even many girls – believe fathers rule the household, boys are smarter than girls and girls need less school than boys.

“Girls are worth far more than what the world tells them,” Carolyn Miles, president & CEO of Save the Children of the data which found, among other things, that  17 percent of American fourth graders believing a man would make a better boss than a woman.   “Globally, we know that girls are more likely than boys to miss out on school, experience violence and live in poverty. That is why we need to invest in their education and do everything possible to delay early marriage and motherhood. By providing children equal opportunities and access to learning, every girl can realize what she’s truly worth.”

In 2017, girls around the world are still frequently marginalized in their families, communities and societies because of who they are or where they were born. They face discrimination, lack equal opportunities and earn less money – their lives and futures aren’t given the value they deserve. Save the Children’s analysis revealed that a girl under 15 is married every seven seconds.

Also, to commemorate this annual day, 30-year old Oxford University graduate, director MJ Delaney teamed up with Project Everyone in partnership with UNICEF and the Bill & Melinda Gates, to create a new video to raise awareness of the #FreedomForGirls campaign which has been created to support Inernational Day of the Girl

The video features girls from all walks of life and different nations around the globe dancing and lip-syncing to Beyonce’s song, “Freedom’”. The Group also  calls for action on some of the biggest challenges girls face like access to education, child marriage and the threat of violence”.

Last year, the group asked people to share #WhatIReallyReallyWant for girls and women – this year it wants everyone to raise their voice for freedom.

Jay-Z Revealed the Gender of The Twins In Recent Interview

After lots of speculation, Jay-Z finally revealed that the twins are a boy and a girl. While speaking with Rap Radar‘s Elliott Wilson and Brian

B.Dot” Miller during an exclusive interview on TIDAL, he explains the inspiration behind his newborn children’s names.

“Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter,” Jay-Z said of his and Beyoncé‘s love of the 12th century Persian poet. As for their son, “Sir was just like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

Mystery solved!

The couple welcomed their newest additions in June this year. They are parents to 5-year old daughter, Blue Ivy. They recently closed on an $88 million dollar home compound in Bel Air section of Los Angeles, California just last month. They are now officially West Coasters!

Hurricane Harvey: All the Celebs That Have Donated Relief

Kevin Hart, the comedic actor husband to one of our Bellyitch Bump Watch moms-to-be Enicko Parrish, has challenged his fellow celebs to donate $50,000 each to  Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Many have accepted the challenge.

I was going to share all the celebrities, including some of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch babes who have pledged or donated to help the Houston Hurricane Harvey survivors.

The big name celebs donating include Houstonian Beyoncé, Hillary Scott, and more but The Washington Post’s “Reliable Source” blog did a pretty comprehensive round up so I don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

Head on over to check it out! It’s good stuff?

4 Very Popular Recording Artists That Wrote Lyrics About Miscarriage and Pregnancy Loss

Earlier this year, we blogged about the fact that Harry Styles‘ first single off his self-titled debut solo album, “Sign of The Times” is about a woman dying in childbirth  and this week, we reminded you that Lady Antebellum‘s Hillary Scott penned “Thy Will”to to help herself cope with her 2016 miscarriage.

But did you know there have been a couple of famous rappers who have also released songs with lyrics about pregnancy loss, fertility and miscarriage?

Shawn “Jay Z” Carter might just takes the prize for doing it the most.

In his recent song, 4:44, off the same-titled album, the platinum-selling chart-topper seemingly blames himself for his wife’s Beyonce’s miscarriages and losses by rapping, “I apologize for all the stillborns/ ‘Cause I wasn’t present, your body wouldn’t accept it.”

It’s more likely he was being colloquial and was probably referencing the miscarriages and not stillborn which occur in less than 1% of all pregnancies and happens when a baby is born deceased after 20 weeks gestation.

Later on in that same song, he raps about the praises of having twins, naturally, an acknowledgment is probably an indicator that the duo were anticipating getting help with their fertility from science via IVF.

“Look, I apologize often womanize / Took for my child to be born / See through a woman’s eyes / Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles / Took me too long for this song / I don’t deserve you,” he rapped.

This is not the first time the biz mogul has penned lyrics about pregnancy loss. In 2012, his song “Glory” also addressed a miscarriage Beyonce had before the couple found success and finally welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy Carter.

“False alarms and false starts /All made better by the sound of your heart / All the pain of the last time / I prayed so hard it was the last time,” he opens up in the song.

Later on in the song, he raps, “Last time the miscarriage was so tragic We was afraid you’d disappear, but nah, baby, you magic,” referring to the fear that Blue would have been miscarried too.

Tender huh?

Female rapper Nicki Minaj also seemingly opened up  about a child she lost either to abortion or miscarriage in her 2014 song “All Things Go” on her album “The Pinkprint.

While referencing her baby as an angel watching over her baby brother Micaiah, (who she calls Caiah), she raps:  “I want Caiah to go to college just to say we did it,” she raps about her younger brother Micaiah then adds, “My child with Aaron, would’ve been 16 any minute / So in some ways I feel like Caiah is the both of them / It’s like he’s Cai’s little angel looking over him.”

In a Rolling Stones article published that year also, the Queens native reveals that she had an abortion at age 15 and that she remains haunted by it:

Minaj’s first love was an older guy from Queens she dated while attending the prestigious Manhattan performing-arts high school LaGuardia. When she discovered she was pregnant, “I thought I was going to die,” she admits.

“I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.” Minaj says about the decision that “haunted me all my life,” though it was the right choice for her at the time. “It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”

It was never confirmed, but a few folks hypothesized she was singing bout that same child in that song.

Pregnancy Loss is still quite taboo so it’s great awareness building to have A-List stars include it in lyrics to their music, we think.

Beyonce’s 600-page Lemonade Boxset is HERE!

This news was a big buzz among the BeyHive earlier this year, but now that Beyonce is set to release her $300  How To Make Lemonade box set, it’s getting renewed attention.

The book is a pretty comprehensive inside look into the pop star’s award-winning studio album, “Lemonade.”

The 600-page set features an actual vinyl of the record version, audio and visual album downloads, her personal hand written poetry and lyrics and a coffee table book that features never-before-seen photographs from the making of the visual album.

4 Times Celeb Moms Were Mommy-Shamed Recently

It seems like social media is a ripe place for people to judge others’ looks and personal decisions and make them feel bad about themselves for it all.

Celebrity moms are not immune to it either.

Over the past few weeks, several celeb moms have been “mommy shamed” for posting images of themselves online or in social media that got a lot of critical attention.

First up, recently, P!nk was called out for a photo of herself cooking a meal on the stove top while babywearing and her daughter nearby kneeling on the counter right over the stove.

Last week, Ciara caught a lot of heat from commenters on her Instagram when she posted a photo of herself wearing her infant daughter while going down a water ride

This week, it has been Megan Fox’s turn. Several people online fussed at her for posting a series of recent family photos including one of her son in a Queen Elsa Dress.

Finally, Beyonce was called out for drinking wine while out on a date night with her husband by people who criticized the breastfeeding mom for passing on the alcohol to the twins.

We guess with the access celebs give their fans to social media and with letting them into their personal lives comes unwelcome and unsolicited opinions too.

Par for course, huh?
