Finding The Perfect International School For Your Little One

https://pixabay.com/en/kids-girl-pencil-drawing-notebook-1093758/

Are you considering moving overseas? Finding the perfect international school for your child is a big commitment, so you want to ensure you find one that they can be happy in and that suits your educational requirements.

Here are our top tips to help you find the ideal school for your child.

  1. Do your research

Research is paramount. Thoroughly review the school’s website. Respectable international schools in Thailand or wherever you may have moved tend to vary in ethos, teaching and learning approaches, examinations, curricula, CPD, staff support, teacher and student demographics, location, size, and so much more. It’s important to match the school with your preferences and needs.

  1. Find out about accreditations

Most good international schools are accredited by one of a couple accreditation bodies. If a school is accredited, it should say so on the website’s homepage.

  1. Is the school a member of any international associations?

There are a number of international school associations, and regional ones, too. Most of these bodies have stringent standards for membership and some even have their own accreditation.

If your desired school is a member of an association, it will feature the logo on the website, usually on the homepage. Do be wary of schools that claim to be applying for membership, especially if the application has been going on for more than 12 months.

If you have any doubts, contact the association to verify a school’s membership.

  1. Find out if the school has had an inspection

Typically, international schools have been inspected by their local authority. But, there are some schools that choose to go through a rigorous internationally-recognised process to ensure their standards are maintained and understood. Mostly, the inspections are carried out by independent inspection bodies.

  1. Arrange to talk to teachers at the school

It is relatively easy to find teachers working at the school, either by phoning up or on social media. Each teacher will view the school through their own eyes, so you can get a variety of feedback and consensus from several past and present employees. The school may even offer to put you in touch with teachers, so you can sit down and find out more about your child’s potentially new international school.

  1. Do reputable recruitment agencies recommend your potential school?

Any reputable recruitment agency will be able to provide unbiased feedback and guide you towards the right sort of school for your child’s needs. Reputable agencies only work with internationals schools that they have already visited and vetted. The process usually includes talking to past teachers and staff and developing a relationship with the school leadership, as well as assessing facilities and resources and carrying out tours of the school.

Changing schools, along with countries, is a huge step for anyone. You want to ensure your child lands at a reputable school where their educational needs are met, and they are able to easily integrate both into the community and the classroom environment. Follow these 6 tips to find the right school for your child.

Carrie Underwood Joins Roster of Celeb Baby Bumps Featured in Their Music Videos

Carrie Underwood has joined the small legions of celebrity singers who released music videos while visibly pregnant.

In the video for her new song, “Love Wins“, underbelly shots of the country music phenom reveals her baby bump in an empire waist rose gown. In the emotional son, Underwood addresses a lot of hot-button political topics such as gun violence, politics, our very heavily divided world while offering the solution to it all: Love!

“Love is power, love is a smile[,]

Love reaches out, love is the remedy[,]

Love is the answer, love’s an open door[,]

Love is the only thing worth fighting for[.]”

Underwood,  announced last month she was expecting her second child with husband Mike Fisher.

Earlier this year, Cardi B dropped several videos off of her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” and her baby bump too was very much present.

A long time ago, women were hidden away when pregnant and certainly, they weren’t flaunted in the media or music videos. In modern times, beautiful pregnant women are featured prominently as with a very 9-month pregnant Natalie Portman, days before giving birth in the music video for James Blake’s  song “My Willing Heart,” released on Monday.

But she isn’t the first one. Beyonce, P!nk, Deborah Cox, and Whitney Houston have also appeared very pregnant in music videos for their songs

In 2011, Beyonce was pregnant with her daughter Blue Ivy in her Countdown Video. That year, P!nk was also visibly pregnant with her daughter Willow in her girls empowerment song “F*&>Perfect”.

Before then, Canadian -born artist Deborah Cox showed off her 3rd trimester belly in the later frames of her “Beautiful U R” video” which is also about female empowerment and self esteem.  Finally, Whitney Houston, was also uplifting women in her remake of Chaka Khan‘s “I’m Every Woman” and was pregnant with her daughter Bobbi Kristina. (RIP to both of them).

This is One Of Princess Charlotte and Prince George’s Fave Children’s Book

Are you looking for a good children’s book suggestion? Consider a fave of Prince George and his little sis Princess Charlotte!

Their dad Prince William told children’s book author Julia Donaldson and illustrator  Axel Scheffler that their book The Gruffalo is a “big hit” with his two eldest kids.

After meeting Donaldson and Scheffler at London’s new Tusk Rhino Trail, a series of 21 rhino-themed art installations around the city that “[draw] attention to the critical threat facing rhino populations across Africa due to a global poaching crisis”, William retorted of the book creators, “It’s a big hit in our household.”

The classic British children’s book that was first published in 1999 tells the story of a mouse who takes a stroll in the enchanted forest and comes across several creatures that want to eat him. Along the way, the mouse meets a hybrid of a bear and buffalo.

I’m going to get it for my Goddaughter!

Viral: Mom of the Most Famous Almost Born Triplets Gives Birth

One of my most viral photos and posts ever was about a mom-to-be who was expecting quadruplets. She was on the beach in a bikini. It awed and shocked a lot of people, that photo.

Fast forward about a decade later and I see another mom, this time expecting triplets, is viral. A 33-year old Norwegian woman caught a lot of attention recently over her periodic updates and bare bump photos of her growing bump.  Her Triplets of Copenhagen  has over 160,000 followers as of the date of this post.

“I’m reaching my limits now, and counting the days until delivery,” Maria of Copenhagen wrote at the 33-week mark. “The babies are kicking hard and moving around all day and night, to great discomfort. And my belly feels so full and stretched; I literally have to lift it with my hands to be able to turn over in bed.”

This Wednesday, Maria and her husband Landre welcomed their three bundles of joy: daughters Agnes and Iben and son Filip following an induction.

The couple grew a lot of fans also, some who gifted her and the babies gifts like knitted sweaters.

She also did a great job of documenting her journey, including baby shopping and all of the prep it takes to grow a family from two to five overnight.

Hurricane Preparedness: How To Keep Your Kids Safe and Calm

As we get into Hurricane season,  parents and caregivers to talk to their children about hurricanes and take immediate steps to keep kids safe. Save the Children is the national leader for children in emergencies offers tips:

Prepare Your Kids Now for a Hurricane

  • Talk about the Hurricane  Take time to explain to your children that a hurricane is a natural event and not anyone’s fault. Using simple, age-appropriate words and explanations about what disasters are or what happened during a disaster can give them a sense of understanding and control. Let them know your top priority is to keep them safe.
  • Reassure Kids: Let your children know you’re planning ahead to keep them safe. Reassure them that during an emergency, many caring adults — including parents, teachers and first responders — will be working to keep them safe.
  • Identify Evacuation Routes: Find out if you live in Hurricane Lane’s evacuation area, and assess your risks from a storm surge, flooding or wind damage. Together with your kids, identify the best evacuation routes, so you can all be ready to evacuate quickly and safely.
  • Fill out Contact Cards: Make Emergency Contact Cards for all your children, which include three emergency contacts that any first responder or caregiver can reach out to, in case you are separated during the hurricane. Since local power and phone service can be disrupted during emergencies, it’s also important to have one out-of-town contact. Practice learning these numbers with your children.
  • Pack a ‘Go-Bag’: Put together a “Go Bag” with each of your children, which can include a favorite stuffed animal and the comforts of home, as well as an emergency contact card and activities to pass the time, like books or games, if you need to evacuate to a shelter. Every family should also have an emergency preparedness kit, complete with nonperishable food items, a flash light, medicine and other medical supplies, water and personal hygiene items like baby wipes and hand sanitizer.

What to Do During Hurricane Lane

  • Evacuate If Instructed To Do So: Evacuate if told to do so by local authorities, or if you feel unsafe. If advised to evacuate, avoid flooded roads and watch for washed-out bridges. Local officials may close certain roads, especially near the coast, when effects of the hurricane reach the coast.
  • Stay Indoors, If Not Evacuated: If you are not advised to evacuate, or are unable to do so safely, stay indoors, away from windows, skylights and doors. Continue to monitor weather reports and do not go outside until the storm has passed.

What to Do After Hurricane Lane

  • Limit Media Exposure: Protect children from seeing too many sights and images of the hurricane, including those on the internet, television or newspapers.
  • Ensure Utilities Are Available: Before children are returned to areas impacted by Hurricane Lane, make sure utilities, such as electricity and plumbing, are restored and living and learning spaces in homes, schools, and child care facilities are free from physical and environmental hazards.
  • Involve Children In Recovery: After a hurricane, let children help in clean-up and recovery efforts in age-appropriate ways, as this participation may increase their sense of control over the situation.

Godspeed, Parents!

Study: Marijuana Use During Pregnancy Impacts Male Offsprings

Taking cannabis during pregnancy causes behavioral and neuronal deficits in male, but not female offspring, according to the results of a new study by researchers in France, Italy, and the U.S. The study, in rats, showed that male offspring exposed to cannabinoids taken by the mother during pregnancy were less sociable and spent less time interacting with their peers than control animals. Female offspring weren’t affected. The study further suggested how the adverse effects in male rats could be reversed using a drug to increase signaling levels in a specific region of the brain.

“The deleterious effects of prenatal exposure to cannabinoids on social behavior were specific to male offspring only,” explains Anissa Bara, who undertook the research as a post-graduate student in the laboratory of study head Olivier Manzoni, Ph.D., Interim research director at the Mediterranean Institute of Neurobiology, and director of the CannaLab. “But while social interaction was specifically impaired in males, locomotion, anxiety, and cognition remained unaffected in both sexes, suggesting discrete and sex-specific behavioral consequences of cannabinoid exposure during adulthood.” Bara is co-lead author of the team’s paper, titled, “Sex-dependent effects of in utero cannabinoid exposure on cortical function,” which is published in eLife.

The Celeb-Inspired Fall Boots You Need To Get Now!

Cute shoes are a must, and this fall is all about the stylish boot. Scrunched ankle boots or sexy knee high, being pregnant is no time to forget about stylish footwear.

Celebrities manage to look effortlessly stylish even while knocked up and certainly while rocking cut fall boots

However, when shopping for a new pair of boots think about what your feet really need during pregnancy.  Still, you don’t have to cut out style for function, altogether. Mix it up and be creative.

Think Style and function.

  • Pregnancy can wreak havoc on your feet. They will swell, they will hurt, they may even sweat a little more thanks to hormone changes. All of this means that you cannot grab just any boot off the shelf. There are some important things you have to look for first.
  • Look for stretchability. If your feet have not start swelling yet, they will soon. And if they are already swollen, they can always get worse. While you want boots that fit comfortable and will not trip you up, consider how much wider your feet could get over the rest of the pregnancy. Look for boots that are a little wider, softer, and can stretch to accommodate your swelling feet.

Go with flats whenever possible. Heels add more pressure and stress to our legs, which can be extra painful when you are already carrying extra weight on them. Choose flat boots over the heels if you can. If heels are a must for you, look at shorter wider heels that will not put as much strain on your legs.
  • Make sure that your boots have good arch support. This is very important when pregnant, as your feet are subject to more stress than usual. If you have trouble finding good boots with enough arch support, you can always buy add-ins that go inside of your shoes and boots.
  • Choose breathable, natural fabrics for boots. Leathers and other natural materials are great for helping your feet breath and not trapping moisture against your feet. This can be especially good if pregnancy hormones are making your feet sweat somewhat more than usual. Natural fabrics will help wick moisture away and prevent smells from forming.

UGG makes the perfect boots for pregnancy. The new styles add that sense of flair without sacrificing on comfort. You can find a variety of styles that can be found at Zappos, that your feet will be sure to thank you for wearing.

A pair of great boots can add sizzle to your maternity wardrobe. Before you buy that pair of boots, make sure they will not work against you during the rest of your pregnancy.

Children of 9/11 Whose Dads Died That Day Are Turning 17

They are the final gifts their fathers left behind.

Known as the Children of 9/11, they were the 100 or so babies born after their fathers died on September 11, 2001, in the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history. PEOPLE first introduced them in a cover story just a few months after 9/11 and then again 10 years later in 2011.

Now, 17 years after 9/11, PEOPLE is once again catching up with several of those kids – now teenagers – and their families in a new special Children of 9/11, 15 Years Later on the PEOPLE/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN).

“These children are what comes after 9/11,” says Jenna Jacobs, whose son Gabriel was born six days after the death of his father Ariel. “They are the joy, the salve, the ointment. They’re the love.”
