15 Celeb Moms Celebrating Mother’s Day First Time

Posted on May 14, 2018 May 14, 2018

There were a lot of celebrity births over the past year which means yesterday, plenty of celebrity women we’ve “bumpwatched” and became moms for the first time ever were able to celebrate their first Mother’s Day.

One trend we noticed among this latest crop of first time moms: either they’ve concealed their babies from the spotlight, and laid low since becoming a mom or they’ve been all in, giving their babies their own Instagram or making them the star of the parents social media feed. No in between. All In or Nothing. Whatever floats their boat, we’re sure each had a great time yesterday celebrating Mom’s Day for the first time since their babies were born. Here is a run down:

International human rights attorney Amal Clooney and husband George Clooney are very private people, yet the arrival of their first set of children, twins —a boy named Alexander and girl named Ella— was big news  yet, the Clooneys have yet to talk about them in the public other than George revealing their first words were  “Mamma!”

Tennis legand Serena Williams and her husband Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian welcomed their daughter Alexis Olympia last September and now the duo are stars of an HBO docu series about her arrival.

Khloe Kardashian was one of three of the Kardashian-Jenner women who welcomed a baby this year. Her sister Kylie Jenner had her first baby while Kim Kardashian welcomed her third child via surrogate. She had managed to stay out of  spotlight since giving birth to True (with her estranged boyfriend NBA Cleveland Cavaliers star Tristan Thompson) in April 2017.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and and her two-time Super Bowl champ hubby Aaron Ross welcomed their baby boy, Aaron Ross II in August.

The youngest of the Jenner-Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner  welcomed her daughter Stormi with boyfriend Travis Scott on February 1 and she did an excellent job keeping the entire pregnancy under wraps.

It was last Mother’s Day 2017 that Kevin Hart announced that his wife, Eniko Hart, was expecting their first child. Their son Kenzo Kash made his grand debut in November and every since he’s been one of the happiest babies around!

Bring It On star Kirsten Dunst also did a great job covering up the majority of her pregnancy and only revealed it when she was well into her third trimester while posing for an ad campaign. She welcomed a baby boy this month with fiancé Jesse Plemons and they too have yet to even discuss baby since he arrived.

On May 2, Jordin Sparks and her husband, model Dana Isaiah Thomas welcomed their first child together,  son Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr.  and the American Idol alum stunned everyone when she was spotted walking the red carpet just three days later. Wow!

Julia Stiles and her husband Preston J. Cook welcomed their son Strummer Newcomb Cook on Oct. 20, 2017. The Silver Linings Playbook star was recently “mommy shamed” for the say she carried her baby in a carrier but clapped back like a champ.

POWER star Naturi Naughton welcomed her daughter, Zuri in July 2017 and she too has been great about keeping her little one out of the public eye but we’re sure she is a looker like her mom.

The Southern Charm star Cameran Eubanks  had her daughter Palmer on Nov. 11, 2017. After celebrating with a hilarious shower, Eubanks has since shared lots about mommyhood on her Insta!

The Hills Babyboom

Lauren Conrad led the little baby boom of alums of the MTV show The Hills when she welcomed her first child, son  Liam, on July 5 with her hubbie William Tell. Since becoming a mom, she too has laid low but pops up once in a while to show off her mom power!

HEIDI PRATT

Heidi Pratt who was Conrad’s nemesis on the show and her husband Spencer Pratt also welcomed a baby boy named Guinner on October 12017 but unlike the others, they’re pretty out and open about sharing photos of him in social media.

Finally, Whitney Port had her first child Sonny with husband Tim Rosenman in July 2017 and was very transparent about the trials of pregnancy on her YouTube channel but looks to believe it was all worth it.

Shamari DeVoe

Former 90s bandmember and wife to New Edition singer Ronnie DeVoe, singer Shamari Stone DeVo  welcomed boy twins, Ronnie III and Roman last October. The boys are so popular they even have their own top social media Instagram account with tons of followers.

Get Cardi B’s Brocolli Festival Look

Posted on April 30, 2018 April 30, 2018

Speaking of Cardi B., her maternity style has been similar to Khloe Kardashian’s marked by oversized t-shirts and boots. It’s kinda attainable and could be pulled off by most people.  You just have to get over any insecurity you have with wearing thigh high boots.

This weekend, the rapper sported an oversized black Lady Diana tribute print T-shirt from Far Fetch under an over sized acid washed denim jacket with gold hoops and blue-grey thigh high boots while performing at the annual Broccoli Festival in Washington, DC this past weekend.

25 Ways To Show Mom Gratitude For Helping Raise Her Grandchildren

Posted on April 21, 2018 April 21, 2018

With news outlets reporting that Kris Jenner has been instrumental in helping her daughter Khloe Kardashian adjust to motherhood and with Mother’s Day around the corner, it’s a good day time to think about ways to thank moms for being great grandmamas!

If you’re fortunate enough to live close to your mother, there’s a good chance that she’s looked after your own children a time or two. Watching your children for an extended period, like over the cry of “Thanks!” as you pack everyone into the car.

Here are 25 unexpected ways you can thank your mom for looking after your children after the years she spent raising you.

  1. Surprise House Cleaning – Your mom not only watches your kids, but also spent a significant chunk of her life cleaning up after you. Say thank you by springing a surprise house-cleaning on her sometime!
  2. Flowers – Whether you buy a bouquet of her favorite blooms or present a hand-picked bunch, there’s something about a gift of flowers that shows gratitude and appreciation beautifully.
  3. Homemade Cards – Get the kids together and create a handmade card to present to Grandma as a token of your collective appreciation. It’s sure to end up proudly displayed on the refrigerator.
  4. Store-Bought Greeting Cards – Sometimes a spontaneous gift is best. Snagging a “Thinking of You” card that’s not occasion-specific while you’re at the market and inscribing a message that expresses your thanks lets your mom know that you’re thinking of her and that you’re appreciative of the things she does to help you.
  5. A Special Meal – Who knows your mom’s favorite meal better than you do? Preparing her favorite dish is a great way to say thank you, especially if you modify it to meet dietary needs that are changing with age.
  6. Offer a “Free Favor” – Present your mom with a card promising one free favor, to be called in at any time in exchange for watching the kids. When you hand it over, explain that it’s a show of gratitude, and that her help makes a difference in your life.
  7. Pick Up the Tab – Your mom has been buying you dinner for decades. If you want to thank her for all the time she spends watching your children, consider taking her out to a nice place and picking up the tab.
  8. Give Her the Title of “World’s Best Grandma” – It may be a cheesy coffee mug or a hokey baseball cap, but a bit of merchandise emblazoned with your mom’s title of “World’s Best Grandma” lets everyone know just where she stands.
  9. A Meaningful Gift – There are always things that people want, but can’t justify purchasing for themselves. Listen to your mom when she talks and glean bits of information from what she says to find the perfect thank-you gift.
  10. Handle an Unpleasant Task – Whether it’s clearing a stubborn clog or cleaning the toilet, there’s always some distasteful task that needs to be completed around the house. Taking care of one such task for your mom is a practical and considerate way of thanking her for the things she does.
  11. Give Her the Gift of Quality Time – The frenetic pace of today’s world can leave you spending no more time with your mom than it takes to drop off and pick up the kids. Even if it’s just a cup of coffee before work, carve out some quality time to spend with your mom to thank her.
  12. Baked Goods – Cupcakes, cookies and other baked goods are always a welcome gift, and a great way to show your appreciation for someone you love.
  13. Video Thank You Notes – Get the family together and create a video thank you note for Grandma. Encourage little ones to sing a song or do a dance, and address the things she does that you appreciate directly.
  14. A Scrapbook – There’s nothing quite as powerful as a scrapbook filled with precious mementos and photographs. It may be a time-consuming task, but compiling a scrapbook full of memories for your mom is a great way to show that you care.
  15. Arts and Crafts Projects – Handmade gifts can be more personal and heartfelt than the store-bought variety, so consider making a few things to give to your mother in appreciation.
  16. A Handwritten Letter – Today’s high-tech world relies on emails and text messages to communicate, and the art of the handwritten letter seems to be dying. Put pen to paper and share your appreciation in a way your mom can save for posterity.
  17. Sweet Surprises – Show up to collect your kids with your mother’s favorite candy or other sweet treat. Even though it’s a simple gift, it shows your appreciation.
  18. Gift Cards – Picking up a gift card to your mother’s favorite store or restaurant is a great way to show your thanks, especially if you tuck it inside a card or letter.
  19. Poetry – If you have a flair for words, why not pen a quick poem? Whether it’s sentimental enough to be a greeting card verse or a few silly rhymes designed to bring a smile to mom’s face, the effort will certainly be appreciated.
  20. Inscribed Plants – Moms with green thumbs will be thrilled with an inscribed plant, like Magic Bean in a Can. When the plant grows, a message of your thanks is actually inscribed upon the leaves. It doesn’t get much cooler than that!
  21. Banners and Signs – Surprise your mom with a large banner or sign expressing your thanks. For particularly special occasions, you may even want to integrate party whistles and hats.
  22. Subscription to a Favorite Magazine – Print magazines haven’t quite gone the way of the dinosaur, especially for the older set. Gifting your mom with a subscription to her favorite periodical as a token of your appreciation really is the gift that keeps on giving!
  23. Public Recognition – Few things show just how proud you are of your mother and how much you appreciate the time she spends with your kids like a public recognition of her efforts. Whether it’s a speech at a party or a post on her Facebook wall, let the world know you’re grateful to your mom!
  24. A Phone Call – If the hustle and bustle of each day’s demands leaves you only enough time to call your mother for drop-off and pick-up coordination, set aside a block of time to really talk. She knows just how busy you are, and it will mean the world.
  25. Group Hugs! – An enthusiastic group hug with choruses of thank yous is an exciting and affectionate way to show your gratitude to your mom for looking after your brood.

E! Dissects Celebrity Parenting Trends in Recent History

Posted on March 21, 2018 March 21, 2018

Having children is one of life’s great equalizers. Famous parents may be able to spend more on decorating the nursery, but at the end of the day Beyoncé just wants what’s best for her babies, and the Kardashians hope their kids are happy and healthy. And don’t all moms and dads want the same thing for their little ones?

The difference here is that when someone like Chrissy Teigen claps back at a mommy-shamer, it makes national news. And when Khloe Kardashian says she plans to eat her placenta, just like Kim Kardashian did, other moms-to-be may be intrigued enough to look into the encapsulation process for themselves.

Of course in all cases it’s important for people to do their own research and consult with their personal doctors about what’s best for them and their children. But we couldn’t help but be curious about a lot of these things we hear celebrities talking about these days, so we checked with medical and parenting experts to get the low-down on the usefulness of some of these parenting trends.

Placenta Pills Taking

Meanwhile, this information is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice. But let’s get right down to it and start with eating placenta…

Kim did it, Kourtney Kardashian did it and Khloe says she’s going to do it, but human placentophagy definitely didn’t start with the Kards. Nikki Reed, Katherine Heigl, January Jones, Alicia Silverstone, Holly Madison and Padma Lakshmi all had their placentas encapsulated and turned into pills to take after giving birth, too, while Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Gaby Hoffman say they ingested theirs in smoothie form—and they all had positive things to say about their experiences.

All the way back in 2013, before delivering daughter Rainbow, Madison wrote on her blog, “I heard it helps women recover faster and I want to recover as quickly as I can!”

“All I’ve been doing is breastfeeding and eating chocolate chip cookies—and eating placenta, which helps,” Hoffman told E! News in 2015 about how she was taking care of herself after welcoming her daughter Rosemary.

Mayim Bialik, who in addition to playing a neuroscientist on TV is also one in real life, as well as a placenta-consuming mother herself, explained the thought process behind this practice in a 2012 blog post for Kveller, writing, “Human beings are the only mammals that have chosen to not routinely ingest their placenta, which is consumed by every other mammal for its protein and iron-rich properties that are critical in helping the mother’s body recuperate after giving birth.”

According to Dr. Daniel Benyshek, a professor of medical anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, there’s not enough research yet to back these positive claims. “There’s a great deal of anecdotal evidence,” he tells E! News. “[But] on the scientific side, there’s very little evidence at all to suggest that there are the sorts of objective measurable benefits when compared to a placebo that some of the proponents claimed.”

There has been at least one documented case of a baby who contracted a serious bacterial infection while the mother was taking placenta pills, prompting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to issue a warning last year about the practice.

The child was treated and discharged, but the incident did raise a red flag for some in the medical community. This past August, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology published a review with its take on the trend.

“If there were no harm in consuming placental tissue, we would argue that it doesn’t matter [if a mom eats placenta pills],” Dr. Alex Farr, a gynecologist and one of the authors of the review, explained to E! News. “But the problem is that with placenta consumption, there is a possible harm—mainly the harm of transmitting infectious diseases from the mother to the baby. This is why we are straightforward arguing and voting against placental consumption.”

Experts say that if moms do plan to eat their placenta, they should discuss it with their doctor and choose an encapsulation company that practices proper food safety protocols for handling, storing and preparing the material.

Or, another option is to plant the placenta beneath a tree like Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves. In 2008, the actor talked about burying son Levi‘s placenta in an orchard beneath a giant tree, telling Sanjay Gupta on CNN’s House Call, “It’s going to bear some wonderful fruit!”

Placenta trees haven’t caught on the way placenta pills have, but according to Dr. Stacy Zamudio, a senior scientist and Hackensack Universal Medical Center’s Director of Research, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, burial of the placenta is actually “the most common practice” and “goes back to medieval times.”

“The idea [is] that you bury the placenta on your property near your house, and you plant a tree in that place that will carry the attributes that you want your child to have,” she tells E! News exclusively. “Those cultural beliefs across western Europe were very very widespread right up until the enlightenment era.”

But still, even if you’re just planting a placenta, make sure to act in compliance with any federal and local regulations for the disposal of human material.

Cord Blood Banking

Audrina Patridge, Nick Carter, Mario Lopez, and Bill and Giuliana Rancic have all spoken out in favor of (or in official partnership with) private cord-blood banks. Cord blood is pretty much what it sounds like—blood taken from the baby’s umbilical cord—and it contains potentially life-saving stem cells that can be banked for future use.

“CBR [Cord Bank Registry] came highly recommended to us, both by Giuliana’s sister and our OB/GYN, but we also did our own homework and visited the lab right before Edward Duke was born. We even saw where his cord blood stem cells would be stored!” the Rancics explained their decision on People.com in 2012.

When stored in a private cord-blood bank, the family pays an initial fee (typically somewhere between $1,000 and $3,000) plus an annual storage fee (ranging from $100 to $175) so that they can access their child’s stem cells at any time. With the public system, a baby’s cord blood is donated (at no charge to the parents) and becomes available to anyone who is a match and needs it.

Last year, the American Academy of Pediatrics released an updated policy statementhighlighting the option of cord blood banking. Dr. William T. Shearer, the lead author of the policy and a Professor of Pediatrics and Pathology and Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, tells E! News “it’s a matter of personal choice” what parents do with a child’s cord blood.

Cord blood stored in private banks has “a very restricted use,” says Dr. Shearer. “The chances that the cord blood is going to be used to save someone’s life is far greater with the public system.” “Now there is a chance,” he notes, “that new developments could happen in science and medicine in which the technique is discovered provided we could do more than the cord blood than is being done currently.”

Breastfeeding

Danica McKellar breastfed her son until he was 2 1/2, Mayim Bialik weaned her son at age 4, and Alanis Morissette said she would breastfeed “until my son is finished.” Like these moms, Kourtney Kardashian was criticized for breastfeeding son Mason Disick for too long, but on the flip side, Adele got flak for not breastfeeding son Angelo for long enough.

In this case, there’s no right or wrong amount of time—and to breastfeed at all or not is an entirely personal decision. “It’s what works for each mother,” Dr. Robin Berman, a psychiatrist and author of Permission to Parent: How to Raise Your Child With Love and Limits, tells E! News. “If women choose to breastfeed, that’s wonderful. If they make the choice not to breastfeed and to use formula, that’s wonderful, too.”

Attachment Parenting

Pink, Alicia Silverstone and Bialik have all spoken out in favor of attachment parenting, a child-rearing philosophy that promotes closeness through near constant touch.

Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, Tori Spelling and Tia Mowry have practiced some form of co-sleeping, which is a key tenet of attachment parenting, and countless celebs including Chris HemsworthandElsa Pataky, Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, Ryan Reynolds and Gisele Bündchen have been spotted babywearing (the official term for strapping the baby to your chest—remember when Reynolds was criticized for not properly securing his daughter in the carrier?), which can also be considered a form of an attachment parenting.

The verdict? “If it works for you, great. It doesn’t work for everybody,” Dr. Sonya Rasmisnky, a psychiatrist specializing women’s mental health and reproductive psychiatry, tells E! News about the overall concept of attachment parenting.

“When I think about attachment parenting, I think of an insistence on particular care practices: Baby-wearing, co-sleeping, that kind of thing,” she says. “But attachment is a much larger thing…Attachment is having a responsive parent who’s attuned to you and to your needs, and that that can take multiple forms… I don’t think it’s necessary to babywear and to co-sleep in order to be attached to your child.”

Mom-Shaming Resistance

More and more, many famous moms—and dads—aren’t afraid to clap back: Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, Jada Pinkett Smith, Julia Stiles, Kristin Cavallari, Hilary Duff and Snookiamong others—have all shut down mom-shamers, and David Beckham, John Legend and, as mentioned, Ryan Reynolds have all had opportunities to defend themselves from the dad police.

Celebrity parents definitely aren’t the only ones dealing with this, either.

Dr. Berman says the shaming culture “has really gotten out of control,” explaining, “It’s like a bubble—somebody’s gotta pop it and deflate it and realize that they’re parenting from their ego and not from their soul. Because when you’re shaming other people and you’re judging other people, you can’t be loving them at the same time.”

Parent shaming is obviously prevalent online, but there are friendly, supportive corners of the web, too. As Dr. Rasminsky puts it, “[T]here are lot of downsides to the internet, but one of the upsides is that you can find pretty much any kind of community there.”

“I guess I would say if you’re feeling shamed, go find some other moms to hang out with who are going to be more supportive, because they exist,” she adds. “I think finding your people is one of the tasks of early parenting because it’s a whole new world—so that’s making friends who are moms who share your view of parenting and of what’s important, that’s possible to do and i think it’s important to do and it’s sustaining, and they’re out there.”

Ultimately, we all need to remember “there is no exact science to parenting,” says Dr. Berman. “I am a mother of three, I am a psychiatrist, I am a parenting book author—there is no one way to parent. There is not a perfect formula, and if we all look at each other with a lot more love and support and less shame, we would all raise happier kids.”

Cushnie et Ochs is My new Celeb Fave Designer Label

Posted on February 25, 2018 February 25, 2018

It was only a week ago that I discovered the long-established line  Cushnie et Ochs when I saw Khloe Kardashian wearing one of its designs, the Black Pyramid Pencil Dress cut out dress on an appearance of Jimmy Kimmel Live about a month ago.

“Since launching in 2008, the line has offered a solid selection of structured, cut-out, body-con dresses, landed in retailers like Bergdorf Goodman and Net-A-Porter, and received the Ecco Domani Award, a CFDA Swarovski Award nomination, and a finalist spot in the CFDA/VogueFashion Fund,” Refinery 29 reports.

The label is a fave of stars like Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Teigen and Michelle Obama and is known for its intricate cut outs and asymmetrical lines and I have been exploring some of their designs and find them to be quite flattering and chic.

And I learned I am not alone in the new discovery. A popular fashion site described the label as coming out of nowhere and exploding on the scene! Read about it here then check out some of their other looks we like below:

Posted on February 20, 2018 February 20, 2018

A couple of our current Bellyitch Bumpwatch mamas showed up and out including third-time mom-to-be Ayesha Curry who rooted on her husband Goldenstate Warriors star player Steph Curry as he lead Team Curry. They lost to our Bellyitch alum Savannah Brinson James‘ husband LeBron James team but that didn’t stop Ayesha from bigging up her man in an instgram post.

“W my love celebrating last night. So proud of you,” the cook book author captioned a photo of herself in an AC/DC tee, casual sweats and a leather jacket with the 2017 NBA MVP crouching down giving her bump a kiss.

First time mom-to-be Khloe Kardashian attended the “Game is Everything” dinner kicking off the weekend with her beau Cleveland Cavalier  Tristan Thompson.

LeBron James was named All-Star MVP for the third time in his career this past weekend at the 2018 NBA All-Star game. James handpicked his team and then carried it to victory in a win for “Team LeBron” over “Team Stephen” on Sunday.

Our Pick of the Top 13 Most Stylish Preggers Celeb of 2017

Posted on January 1, 2018 January 1, 2018

Last year, we followed some pretty stylish celebs throughout their pregnancies.

We selected the top twelve of the most fashionable.

#13 Chrissy Teigen, #12 Duchess Cate and #11 Naturi Naughton

13. Model, author and TV host Chrissy Teigen announced that she and hubby John Legend were expecting again after welcoming their first child, Luna following years of fertility struggles. We’ve seen her style focus on feminine maxi dresses with intricate floral themes this pregnancy.

12. Duchess Catherine is also expecting, but she is on baby number three with husband Prince William. She always carry small which makes her bump tough to discern under her usually monochromatic sheath dresses, nautical structure dresses, and rider pants and boots under sweater, her usual fashion scheme.

11. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing Power star Naturi Naughton get dressed up to promote the third season of her hit STARZ channel show. She mixed it up with bold color, bump hugging dresses, fun and flirty dresses and bright pumps.

#9 Bar Rafaeli, #8 Behati Prinsloo and #7 Tia Mowry Hardrict

10. Models models and more models. Though Miranda Kerr is on her second pregnancy, we loved seeing her and fellow Victoria Secret runway stars 9.  Bar Refaeli and 8. Behati Prinsloo show off their ity bity bikini wearing selves on the Gram. Prinsloo and her husband, Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine, are parents to a daughter, Dusty Rose, they welcomed in September 2016.

7. One half of our fave twin stars, Tia Mowry Hardrict also shows up on our top ten list as she has been showing off a more stylish pregnancy this round and some of it on her new YouTube video series show, Tia Mowry’s Quick fix. She too had some struggles before this pregnancy. Her son Cree with actor husband Cory Hardrict is 6 years old and she had discussed wanting to have a second shortly after he was born but was hamstrung by endometriosis.

#6 Toya Wright, #5 Amal Clooney and #2 Beyonce

6. Reality TV star Toya Wright has always been a fashion plate on the Gram so it was no surprise that she continue to wow us with her maternity looks. All eyes were on international human rights lawyer 5. Amal Clooney who welcomed her first children, twins with husband George Clooney this summer.

4. Lauren Conrad, 3. Ciara, . Miranda Kerr

4. Fashion designer and lifestyle brand Lauren Conrad didn’t share too many public photos of herself while preggers but shots of her baby shower shows she kept is streamlined, simple and feminine. And pop star 3. Ciara also was understated during her second pregnancy with husband Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

2. Beyonce showed a lot more of herself this pregnancy compared to last when she remained a virtual recuse. As a result, her blog and social streams were flooded with fabulous, over-the-top, avante-garde looks!

Number 1 on our list is Khloe Kardashian who only acknowledge that she is 6 months preggers in the last few weeks of 2017. She sticks to a mainly black palette but her choice of oversized stylish sweaters and sweatshirts is comfy, relate able yet chic.

10 Songs Dedicated to Single Moms That Will Make You Cry

Posted on March 26, 2017 March 26, 2017

img_3717
I am absolutely in love with the new Clean Bandit song featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie called “Rockabye“. The song and the accompanying relatively recently released music video for the song are about a single mother who does what she has to raise her child.

The lyrics are poetic:

She works the night, by the water

She’s gonna stress, so far away from her father’s daughter

She just wants a life for her baby

All on her own, no one will come

She’s got to save him (daily struggle)

She tells him “ooh love”

No one’s ever gonna hurt you, love

I’m gonna give you all of my love

Nobody matters like you (stay up there, stay up there)

She tells him “your life ain’t gonna be nothing like my life (straight)

You’re gonna grow and have a good life

I’m gonna do what I’ve got to do” (stay up there, stay up there)

So, rockabye…

Side note: I also think Ann-Marie resembles Khloe Kardashian with that cleft in her chin.

This song ranks up high with other songs that people often dedicate to their mom who raised them solo without much or any help from dad either because of abandonment, divorce or death.

This post features 10 songs including Rockabye that I think represent the sacrifice of strong and supportive single moms who overcome it all  to do right by their kid or children.

Leave These 12 Things out of Your Hospital Delivery Bag

Posted on February 3, 2017 February 3, 2017

Bellyitch Rewind

labor and delivery bag
Listen, you know all those baby prep books you’ve read that give you super long lists of stuff you need to pack to take with you for labor and delivery when it’s time to welcome your new baby? Okay, you’re not gonna need most of that stuff. Now, you may feel some comfort and security knowing that you have your 90s soft rock 3-disc CD to take your mind off of labor pains, but most likely, it won’t make it out of your suitcase.

Besides all the useless and unnecessary things you’ll chorale to the hospital, you’ll have additional things, flowers, gifts, balloons and baby stuff to add to the pile and schlep back home. To save you the trouble and hassle, here is our old tried and true list of 12 things you can leave home and spare your poor partner the back pain.

  1. Newborn diapers– Hospitals provide all the diapers the baby needs during the stay and even send you home with extra starter packs
  2. Nursing cover -There is no need for modesty in your hospital room in your hospital bed. The nurses have seen plenty of boobs in their career. If guests visit while you’re nursing, you can ask them to wait outside until you’re done feeding the baby. Most people won’t get offended.
  3. Wipes– Most hospitals use a very thick napkin that they wet with water and wipes contain elements that aren’t good for a newborn’s skin.
  4. Diaper Cream -Most likely the baby won’t be born with a diaper rash and won’t develop one within the first2-3 days of his life while in the hospital. If he does, the hospital has sample cream to use. Those tubes and jars can add weight to an already stuffed take home bag
  5. Any childbirth class notes or guidelines and labor hints: Really now? Do you think in the midst of breathing through labor pains you’re gonna want to review your notes?
  6. Underwear– Many hospitals provide the most comfortable mesh disposable ones that you will love to use instead of messing up your own. The joke among my friends is that they are the special order Victoria Secret mesh panties for new moms.
  7. iPod or music player – with music selections to help with relaxation Besides being outdated and taking up too much space, piping Gregorian Chants or Enya in the room may be a distraction for the hospital staff, interrupt with monitoring equipment and/or disturb a neighboring laboring moms. If you have a smartphone that has the capability of accommodating music, download music on there and bring your headphones. It takes up less space than bringing your phone AND ipod.
  8. Receiving blankets- The hospital provides plenty that you can take home even afterwards. Save all the cute baby shower gifts for home.
  9. Two regular-sized bed pillows (in bright, distinctive, hard-to-lose pillowcases)- The Hospital or maternity center provide enough. If you are a germaphobe, think the hospital’s pillow cases may be too rough or want something familiar from home, just bring the pillowcases and replace the hospital’s cases. They take up less space.
  10. Baby’s “memory” book – for footprints or staff names and guest signatures Nice idea if you have someone who will remind guests to sign because you’ll be consumed with baby, nursing, caring for yourself, and will likely forget.
  11. Entertainment items (books, crayons, games) for children are to visit in hospital – A lot of hospitals don’t permit young children  in the maternity wards, but for those who do and if children come to visit they may not be staying THAT long to get bored and need entertainment. As for other people’s children, it’s not your job to tote extra crap to entertain your friends’ kids.
  12. Clothes for hospital baby photo AND clothes for baby to wear home  You only need one of these. Either or. The kid shouldn’t be a fashionista YET that she can’t be seen in the same outfit twice. You can simply put on the outfit before the photo and take it off afterward. If you can, schedule your photo the same day and around your discharge time.

The Extra Crap you don’t NEED but you CAN bring (eh hem, especially if you are a diva or fashionista):

  1. Make up– because you don’t want to end up on Facebook looking like you just went through a train wreck. If your goal is to look like Khloe Kardashian after she delivered Mason or at least attempt to, then you’re gonna want some make up.
  2. Towels- Because the hospital ones are usually washed a lot and can be itchy.
  3. Your own toilet paper – Hospital toilet paper can be thin. Your delicate bum may want something soft then
  4. Your Own Plush Robe – For accepting visitors, walks to the nursery to visit baby and /or walking off the gas for those who have c-sections.
  5. A spare bag – You can use it to store the extra stuff you’ll have to carry home.
