There was plenty of bumping around at this year’s 2019 Country Music Awards held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.
(From left to right in the above graphic)
First-time mom-to-be and recipient of the most nominations of the night, Maren Morris, posed on the red carpet with her husband Ryan Hurd in a baby blue (for the boy she’s carrying maybe) off the shoulder blouse with matching high-waisted floor-length skirt by Honayda and heels by Casadei. Hurd looked dapper in a Dolce & Gabbana suit, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, a Cartier watch and Stephen Webster cufflinks.
Morris walked away with Album of the Year for “GIRL”.
“Best Shot” country singer Jimmie Allen cradled the belly of his pregnant fiance Alexis Gale and Thomas Rhett and his pregnant wife Lauren Akins bumped it up with their daughters, 4-year old Willa and 2-year old Ada.
Stunning host Carrie Underwood looked exquisite in all of her looks including her red carpet dress she posed in with her Canadian ice hockey star hubby Mike Fischer: a sparkling Elie Madi gown featuring a slim sheer over skirt and a tulle cape and train paired with Jimmy Choo heels, Jared Lehr earrings and rings from Loree Rodkin and Maxior.
Other Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums on the carpet included:
Pink (Julea Domani by Zeena Zaki) and family showed up and showed out.
As did singer Jessie James Deckerin Materiel with Tamara Mellon shoes with her husband, former NFL quarterback Eric Decker.
And Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles made a statement with her Christian Siriano pantsuit and cape, with the words “Play our f*@#in records please and thank you” written on the inside by artist Alice Mizrachi. Read about the reason behind the look here!
If you’ve followed this blog for the past 10 years, you know I enjoy spotting on Red Carpets the celebrity women who’ve been spotlighted here before when they were expecting a baby.
Last night, on August 26, the MTV Video Music Awards were held in New Jersey for the first time at the Prudential Center.
One of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums, Cardi B won for Best Hip Hop video for her song “Money” (she was nominated for Artist of the Year too but lost to Ariana Grande). She was also nominated for Best Pop video for “Please Me” with Bruno Mars and Best Dance and Best Power Anthem for “Taki Taki” and “Wish Wish,” respectively.
One other featured mama from the past Alicia Keys was nominated for the Best R&B video for the video for her song “Raise a Man” but lost to former Fifth Harmony girl band member Normani.
The show caters to younger audiences so I have to admit I’ve had to watch the nominees right before publshing this post. Shame. lol In any event, congrats to the winners and shout out to the moms who looked fab on the red carpet including:
Adriana Lima in Sally LaPointe with Chopard jewelry and Christian Louboutin heels.
A mom of one, a mom of twins and a mom of triplets met in London.
All three previously covered “Bellyitch Bumpwatch” alumsMeghan Markle, Beyonce Knowles Carter, and Pharelle Williams‘ wife Helen Lasichanh (who gave birth to the couple’s triplets in 2017) gathered at the European premiere of the live action remake of the 1994 Disney animated film The Lion King on Sunday.
The event took place at London’s Odeon Leicester Square where the celebs walked the “yellow carpet” which also featured black lion paw prints during its star-studded arrivals.
Beyonce, who voices Nala greeted the former Meghan Markle for the first time since Duchess of Sussex presented her and her hubby Jay Z with the 2018 Brit Awards for Best International Group.
The power couple accepted via video acceptance while standing in front of a portrait of the Duchess wearing a crown, back in December before the Duchess gave birth to her first child, son Archie, with husband Prince Harry.
The two celeb moms greeted each other warmly, with Markle in a black A line tea length Jason Wu Collection Mesh Panel Fit and Flare Dress with sheer sleeves and bodice and Beyonce, dressed in a thigh high slit draped yellow gown.
“Hello my Princess” Beyonce can be seen mouthing before a very warm hug, followed by a friendly hug from Jay Z.
“The baby, so beautiful,” Beyonce then remarked, according to Royal reporter Rebecca English had the scoop on the conversation . “We love you guys.”
At that point, Markle then turned to introduce her husband, who was decked out in a tux. The Prince greeted Beyonce with a kiss on each cheek and Jay-Z with a handshake.
The 444 rapper responded with, “Congratulations on the birth of your baby,” while nodding towards Meghan.
“And how are the twins?” the Prince asked, referencing the superstars’ twins, daughter Rumi and son Sir, born in 2017.
‘”They are not here. They don’t come on every trip,” Bey replied. “We left them at home. They would loved to have been here.”
The Royal couple then greeted Sir Elton John, his husband David Furnish and the Disney president before being introduced to Pharrell Williams who worked on the music in the film.
His wife Helen stayed in the back row but was acknowledged.
“It’s just incredible, you’re in for a great night,” John added.
Harry was humored by Pharrell William’s signature shots tuxedo and his curtsy he did as a joke, I hope.
“I love the look,” Harry said with smile. “It’s phenomenal, seriously. It is just amazing,.”
Also in the line up were actors Billy Eichner, Seth Rogan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Florence Kasumba.
As part of the film’s rollout, Disney Studios is supporting Protect the Pride, a campaign focused on protecting and revitalizing the lion population.
I love it when I see Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums in partnership with one another.
More common, I see some of the women featured on this blog wearing the designs of other celeb moms previously showcased. Think Georgina Chapman, Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney and others but this weekend, alum Alexis Fields designed the wine tasting room for fellow Bumpwatch alum Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Fields, a former child star and sis to Kim Fields (Facts of Life, Living Single, Real Housewives of Atlanta), turned her friend and one time Sister, Sister co-star Mowry-Housley’s new venture into a dream by working on the interior of the venue, a labor of love for The Real panel talk show host and her family’s venture, Housley Napa Valley.
Fields shared the unveiling to her followers and fans on Instagram.
“During this project, we became family,” she captioned the post. “It was such a group effort and couldn’t have been accomplished without the love and dedication of each person involved. So many incredible talents pushed through to make @tameramowrytwo and @adamhousley’s vision a reality.”
She added: “I adore these two and it is always an absolute pleasure to work with them. Tamera, I couldn’t ask for a better design twin. I love how we get each other and support one another. Thank you for always trusting me with projects so personal to you. I cherish our connection. Adam, the brother I never wanted….but I’m so glad I got.”
Later, she shared photos of the before and after of her workspace:
Fields even gave folks a taste of the work in progress last month.
Third-time mom-to-be’s Jenna Bush Hager wore a crimson cape dress to the CFDA Fashion Awards that concealed her bump. She said the outfit got mixed reviews but her two daughters loved it.
Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Jennifer Lopez showed off her rock hard six pack in an orange custom Ralph Lauren crop top layered with 43,200 crystals and matching floor length skirt on the red carpet and on stage when she received her fashion icon award.
CFDA Chairwoman, Diane von Furstenberg said JLo was a no brainer when it came to picking her for the award.
“Jennifer Lopez uses clothes as a way to express confidence and power,” the designer said. “Both designers and fans look forward to her fashion statements.”
Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA, added, “Jennifer Lopez’s style is bold, uninhibited, and always memorable. Designers, including many of our CFDA Members, love to dress her for both stage and private moments.”
Lopez joins past recipient that include: Rihanna, Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Pharrell Williams, and Johnny Depp.
Also, Lily Aldridge, another bumpwatch alum looked sizzling hot in a classic and elegant crimson red gown by Brandon Maxwell.
I’ve seen a series of bad articles about cookbook chef, celebrity mom, NBA great Steph Curry’s wife and our Bellyitch bumpwatch alum Ayesha Curry.
They started when she made some controversial comments on Jada Pickett Smith and Willow Smith’s Facebook TV show TheRed Table Talk about feeling inadequate about never getting solicitation from other men compared to her husband who has women throwing themselves at him all the time and other topics.
I’ve had friends of mine proclaim that the kitchenware brand owner needs to simply “stop talking” so she would stop garnering backlash.
I decided to actually read the recent article in Working Mother which featured the mom of three’s interview and when I see the latest “explosive” comments in context, I think the opposite of her.
Curry needs to actually keep talking.
AT 37-years old, Ayesha is an restaurateur and co-owner of the “International Smoke” chain of restaurants, an influencer (boy does she get people talking), and the host and executive producer of a new forthcoming ABC TV show called Family Food Fight.
[*Good job generating buzz, girl*]
I think she needs to continue speaking up and raising awareness on things like the effects of postpartum depression on new mothers, gender expectations and the limitations men place on women and wives, the challenges of being multi-racial, colorism and the self-esteem issues surrounding being accepted and feeling welcome in one’s community.
We are such a judgmental society and we make decisions about people based on headlines, out-of-context snippets, and images that are attached to articles that float across our social media feed.
On The Botched Boob Job
Postpartum depression led to a rash decision to alter her breast size.
“I didn’t realize at the time, but after having Ryan, I was battling a bit of postpartum that lingered for a while. It came in the form of me being depressed about my body,” the CoverGirl and the Honest Company brand ambassador shared. “So I made a rash decision. The intention was just to have them lifted, but I came out with these bigger boobs I didn’t want. I got the most botched boob job on the face of the planet. They’re worse now than they were before. I would never do anything like that again, but I’m an advocate of if something makes you happy, who cares about the judgment?
On Using a Dismissive Comment for Empowerment
“I think a lot of people do not take me seriously,” confesses Ayesha, who turned 30 in March. Despite her ever-expanding empire, people chalk up her success to her pro-athlete spouse. “They think this is something I’ve obtained because of my husband’s income. That’s not true. He hasn’t invested a dime in my restaurant business.”
“When my career was starting to take off, this male reporter bashed me on live television, saying I should be more like the other [basketball] players’ wives. He literally said, ‘They sit there, they don’t cause any problems, and they look pretty.’”
Curry said a comment from a member of the media made her want to be more than just a quiet and silent wife.
“Why am I not allowed to have a passion and a dream and a voice?” she marvels. “That started a fire in me. I could not be stopped, and I wanted to prove myself.”
Since then, perceptions of her has changed.
“Now the conversation has shifted,” she added. “Stephen doesn’t get any negative [questions] about me. Especially in the Bay Area, people say to him, ‘I like her food a lot,’ and that’s been special for me.”
On being Black or white enough
Curry said as a product of multiracial heritage, she felt that in America, compared to her native Canada, she felt compelled to fit squarely into one box.
Her mother is Jamaican and Chinese, and her dad is Polish and African American.
“Everyone was from a place other than Canada and that’s how you identified yourself, not black or white,” Curry shared in that article.
“I identified as Jamaican because that’s where my mom came from,” she says of her childhood in Toronto, where her neighbors were mostly Asian and Indian. “In the states I’m simply ‘black.'”
And she has had to explain these complicated concepts to her kids so they grow up more centered and balanced and do not buy into Colorism:
“They’re fair in complexion, and they’ve said: ‘I’m not black; look at my skin.’ And I said: ‘No, no, no. You’re a black woman. You have melanin. It’s part of who you are. Our descendants are from Africa. This is what that means.’ It’s been a journey teaching them that, and that black comes in many different shades.”
In sum, it looks like she is very much misunderstood, but perhaps it is purposeful.
Folks would rather not read in context or look to nuances or give her the benefit of the doubt.
That takes more work and in today’s digital era, everyone isn’t granted time.
Our Easter celebrity round up cannot be concluded without reporting on the sunrise Easter service Kanye West held during Coachella music festival.
According to TMZ‘s sources at the popular event, over 50,000 people attended to watch acts like Chance the Rapper, Donald Glover, Kid Cudi, DMX and our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alumTeyana Taylor perform alongside the controversial rapper, designer and now reality TV star.
When I was first into blogging and going to Blogging conferences, I attended a session at Blogging While Brown called the “What Yeezus Taught Us. As a fan of Mr. West, I found it intriguing to hear the two men on the panel talk about how they found the genius of Ye to be something they need to study and follow, almost religiously.
Some say Ye’s whole church service is sacrilegious. Similar was said of his popular song “Jesus Walks” and the contentious 2006 cover of Rolling Stone and the accompanying article called, “The Passion of Kanye West .” The man himself has said he has always wanted to start a church and is quoted often as considering himself religious.
In January, he famously tweeted: “We will change the world. God is on my side. I am a Christian. I am a tax payer. I am myself. God is with us,” he continued, adding, “2024.”
The arrogance one would need to compare himself or herself to a historic figure like Jesus Christ by dubbing oneself “Yeezus” is also the same type of Chutzpah or belief in one’s own hype to command $225 for a hoodie that says “Holy Spirit” and $50 for “Jesus Walks” socks at an event billed as a “service” and not a concert.
The services are not new and this mega one at Coachella is the latest in a series of religiously themed weekly concerts he has thrown at his home where where he remixes popular old songs into gospel versions and is backed by a choir that wears Yeezy sweats instead of traditional robes, The Cut reports.
Well they really are concerts cause I do not think there are any scripture readings or traditional sermons or homilies given. Fans loved it. It was a resounded success. Hate him or love him. Me personally, I’m tepid after his political stances and declaration that slavery was a choice, but I remain fascinated.
Here are some social media shares of the event:
Some have called it “cult like” but then again, as The Cut’s Mariah Smith put it so well:
Matthew 18:20 reads, ‘For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.’ Which basically means that if you and your friends even bring God up in your small gathering or find a way to praise His name with one another, you’ve essentially stumbled your way into a church service.
Sad news for one of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums, Lauren London. Her longtime boyfriend, Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle (real name Ermias Asghedom) was tragically shot and killed outside his clothing store in the Los Angeles California Crenshaw neighborhood yesterday, March 31.
He was only 33 years old and is dad to London’s 2-year old son Kross. She has a 9-year old son named Kameron with rapper Lil Wayne.
The shooting came a day before Hussle was scheduled to meet with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff “to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids,” Soboroff said.
Police are looking for the suspects and have described at least one as someone in his circles, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The couple have kept their romance under raps for 6 years but last year opened up in a GQ magazine feature and a shooting of the magazine’s popular The Couples Quiz vid.
