7 Parental Burnout Triggers and How to Deal With Them

Has it ever occurred to you that being a parent could be stressful? Of course it has–everyone talks about it! They’ll complain about how difficult it is to take care of their kids, they’ll mention how stressed they are when they try to make their children happy and they’ll tell you about all the cleaning up and washing they have to do. Most people just accept this as part of being a parent, but did you know that it could eventually pile up and cause you to break down?

Parental burnout is a phase that parents reach when they struggle to cope with their children. It could be due to the stress of their professional careers or it could happen when you fail to beat fatigue while raising your child.

The pressure often comes from trying to be a responsible and reliable person for everything. Whether it’s refusing to eat fast food and always cooking healthy meals for your children, or refusing to ask for help because you feel too proud, parents can often feel too responsible for their children.

But what are the triggers of parental burnout? What exactly causes it, and how can we prevent it? There are actually many different ways to beat parental burnout, but it does require you to understand how to avoid it in the first place and what the triggers are. Below, we’ve listed seven of the most common triggers of parental burnout and what you can do to avoid them.

  1. Children Asking the Same Thing Over and Over Again

Have you ever wondered why your children ask the same thing over and over again? It can help you understand why, but it doesn’t really help the fact that they’re frustrating you with their comments. The best way to avoid being burned out by this situation is to just stay calm, relax and answer their questions as best as possible. Don’t let it get to you–it’s a phase that will eventually pass.

  1. Children That Refuse to Listen When You Ask Them for Something

Have you ever asked your children something, only for them to refuse to answer you or do what you said? Rebellious children aren’t new, but it can get incredibly frustrating and you may even snap and shout at them. You never want to raise your voice at your children. Instead, be more patient with them. Try a different tone of voice, be more positive and use body language to communicate.

  1. Children That Force You to Repeat Yourself

This coincides with both of the previous points. If you feel like your child has to be constantly reminded of something, then again, you just need to be patient. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way around this other than to stay positive and be consistent with the way you reply. Eventually, your children will get out of this phase, so do your best not to get frustrated and raise your voice.

  1. Children That Prevent You From Getting Enough Sleep

If your children are constantly waking you up at night or causing you to get less sleep, then you should consult a guide for parents on how to get better quality sleep. Not getting enough sleep will make you grumpy and you could snap at your children.

  1. Children That Make a Mess Wherever They Go

Teach your children better manners and how to act around the house. Don’t use physical contact to discipline your children when they don’t listen or do something against your word. Instead, let them know why their behaviour is unacceptable and use a time-out area.

  1. Children That Clutter the Home

If you find that your children are constantly throwing their toys around and always requesting new toys when they already have lots, then you’ll need to start being more strict about how you spoil them. It’s fine to purchase them a few toys and games here and there, but too much and they’ll eventually get used to it and complain when they don’t get what they want.

  1. Children That Won’t Let You Have Some Peace and Quiet

It’s important that you spent a bit of time away from your kids every now and then. It could be a holiday, a night out or even a just an hour of relaxation in the garden on your own. Make some space for yourself. Give yourself some time to relax away from the stress of your kids each day and you’ll find that it can help melt the stress away.

Yellow, Gold and Celestial Beings at Met Ball 2018 Red Carpet (PHOTOS)

So the annual fundraising gala to mark the opening of the new Spring exhibit at The Metropolitan Gallery of Art in New York City went down last night.

As with this event every years, guests are asked to come dressed according to the theme of the new exhibit: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination. This year’s official hosts were Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Amal Clooney (above in Richard Quinn) and Donatella Versace (who dressed a lot of the attendees this year)

With a theme like that not only do you expect some backlash at what could be expected as a parade of sacrilegiousness, but you sorely expect some interpretations of Angels, the Virgin Mary, the Pope and Cardinals! They all were there last night too.

We just cover the moms and other celeb women we have frequently covered starting with two moms-to-be:  Homeland star Claire Danes who is expecting her second child with husband Hugh Dancy and rapper and reality TV star Cardi B who is expecting her first child with her fiance rapper Offset.

Danes wore a custom floor-length empire waist Marni precious duchesse  red, magenta and caramel color block gown paired with Marni Monile handbag  and multicolour platform sandals.

Cardi looked regal in a custom golden bejeweled white Moschino gown. She was accompanied to the event by designer Jeremy Scott though her fiancé was there with the other two members of his group, Migos.

Of our other Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums, we noticed a few trends within the theme.

Gold was one. Kerry Washington in a gorgeous floor-length Ralph Lauren dress with her afro serving as a halo! Evan Rachel Wood, Kim Kardashian-West in Versace and Irina Shayk.

We saw structure, ornateness and royal crimson in Solange‘s Iris Van Harper ensemble, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez‘s spectacular Balmain modern take on Joan of Arc and Scarlett Johanssson

Yellow was a prevalent theme and color and everyone wearing it last night looked stunning including Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren, Huma Abedin and Gabrielle Union in Prabal Gurung dress, Tasaki jewels, Stuart Weitzman shoes and a Tyler Ellis clutch.

Anne Hathaway went with volume in her  Valentino gown which she paired did James Banks earrings, a The Code bracelet and Jimmy Choo heels.

Meanwhile, Gisele Bundchen did old Hollywood glam but in an environmentally friendly way by working with Versacd to repurpose an old dress.

“Thank you @versace for working so hard to make me an eco dress. The fabric and lining used are both 100% organic silk ecologically dyed, the threads are 100% organic cotton and everything is certificated as GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard,” she captioned a photo of herself in the dress before heading out to the ball.

Kylie Jenner made her first official official red carpet appearance in a black velvet Alexander Wang gown with Chopard jewelry with her beau rapper Travis Scott since the two welcomed their first child together, daughter Storming

Uma Thurman was accompanied to the event by Maya Hawke, her daughter with Ex Ethan Hawke and  donned a white Gabriela Hearst dress, Giampiero Bodino jewelry, and Manolo Blahnik heels

Most people played it safe but understandingly so because they probably didn’t want to cross the line and have to dodge lightning bolts! ha!

Claire Danes is Expecting Baby #2!

Claire Danes is going to become a mom again!

The 39-year-old Homeland actress revealed to Howard Stern on the X-rated Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM on Wednesday that she is expecting her second child with husband Hugh Dancy. Danes, who shares a 5-year-old son, Cyrus, with the actor, said she is currently in her second trimester.

“I’m pregnant,” she said on the Howard Stern Show. “I’m seriously preggo. I’m deep into my second trimester.”

“You look so thin,” Stern said.

“I’m seated,” Danes replied.

Monica Brown is Our 2018 Posh Style Mom Icon!

It’s been a minute since we proclaimed a celebrity mom as a fashion style icon. After stalking Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum singer Monica Brown’s Instagram page and various presses sightings of the fabulous singer, the editors at Bellyitch have determined that the mom to stylish three is deserving to be our 2018 honoree!

For those unfamiliar, this recognition is given to a celebrity mom, usually one who has more than one child, who also has displayed effortless style, not necessarily created by a stylist, who inspires others and Monica is it!

We love the R&B recording artist’s  Instagram posts which are reminiscent of what you’d  see on any “it” Fashion Grammer or Style Blogger’s feed.

Monica’s fashion aesthetic consists of lots of bold colors, thigh high boots and chic dusters. She isn’t afraid to switch up her hair color from crimson, to pitch black to platinum. The mom of three, including 4-year old daughter Laiyah, 9-year old son Romelo and 12-year son Rocko,  has worn down her hair bone straight, in a croute pixie cut or intertwined in waist-length faux locs.

Her page is bright and totally themed out, similar to other influencers out there! See it HERE!

Ms. Brown can do no wrong in our book. The Atlanta-based philanthropist is married to NBA player Shannon Brown since 2010 when the two wed in a secret ceremony. Monica is also step mom to Shannon’s son Shannon Brown, Jr. from a previous relationship. Laiyah is the couple’s only child together as Rocko and Romelo’s dad is Monica’s ex, actor and rapper Rodney Hill, Jr also known as Rocko

The last time we named someone this honor was 2017 and it was given to philanthropist and end ex model Helen Lasichanh, Pharrell’s wife. Before her, the honor was given to Kourtney Kardashian in 2015. Before her, in 2014, Jennifer Hudson, who was the fourth mom to a single child to get the award. Before her, P!nk got it in 2012. And former First Lady Michelle Obama was dubbed an icon in 2011. Other designees include, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly RipaVictoria BeckhamTichina Arnold and  Christina Milian.

Here is a quick rundown of some of ourm fave looks Monica has rocked over the years as shared in her super fly Insta!

What Causes the Pregnancy Glow and Why Don’t I Have It?

You know that glow that people remark upon when you’re pregnant?  Well, it’s a real thing!  Board certified dermatologist and beauty expert, Dr. Anna Guanche says that in 90% of pregnant women the blood volume increases by 50% (increased blood flow), estrogen levels increase (estrogen makes the skin more youthful looking) and weight gain all combine to create a beautiful smooth glow.

However, this isn’t the case for about 10% of pregnant women, they might have to deal with cystic acne breakouts.  Dr. Guanche says it can be treated with facials, mild peels and skin care regimens that don’t contain retinoids or salicylic acid.

Another side effect of pregnancy is that you might see growths appear that weren’t there before and existing ones may increase in size, this includes moles and skin tags.  The moles can become darker and melanoma risks are higher in pregnant women.  She recommends that they should be checked immediately and not wait until after the baby is born.

Dr. Guanche goes on to say that allergic rashes can occur more frequently during and after pregnancy, due to exposure to a “foreign body,” since the baby is genetically different.  This can activate the immune system for up to a year after delivery.

Eventually, your body returns to pre-pregnancy state, and sadly the glow leaves, but also, any rashes, growths or other problems also disappear.

Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson Name Their Daughter, ‘True’

True Thompson is the newest Kardashian/Jenner baby.

Khloe Kardashian announced Monday that she and her estranged beau Tristan Thompson have chosen to name their first daughter together, True, going with a supremely unique and celebrity-ish name.

“Our little girl, True Thompson, has completely stolen our hearts and we are overwhelmed with LOVE,” she wrote on social media. “Such a blessing to welcome this angel into the family! Mommy and Daddy loooooove you True!”

With cousins named North, West, Saint, Stormi, Dream and Reign, what would one expect? I like True! It has much character, to me.

According to insiders, Khloe is focusing on being mom and less on any controversy or personal turmoil between herself and Tristan.

“Khloe is mesmerized and completely in love with the baby,” a source told E! News. “That’s all she’s thinking about is caring for the baby and being positive.”

Things are still up in the air regarding her personal relationship with True’s dad.

“She hasn’t made any decisions on what she’s going to do regarding Tristan,” the insider explained. “She is overcome with emotion and can’t think about anything other than the baby right now.”

Mom Kris Jenner is in Cleveland helping her daughter out with the first weeks. Kris was also there to help Khloe labor.

“Everyone is focused on helping Khloe and staying positive at this time,” a source previously said. “They want her to be comfortable and not stressed at all. They are focusing on the baby and crying a lot of happy tears at the moment.”

These Are The Tips You Need For Air Traveling with Kids This Summer

Summer vacation travel season is on the horizon.

Emirates Airlines recently conducted a U.S. Travel Survey on Family Travel, identifying key struggles of traveling with kids and what parents say are the most effective ways to make the experience better for them and the kids.

In the survey of 4400 adults with a passport, planning to take an international trip in the coming year or have taken an international trip in the past few years, and who travel at least once every two to three years and are between the ages of 18 and 64.

It’s no secret kids can get antsy during flights. Emirates found that while kids get better at flying as they get older, many kids across all ages are already antsy within the first two hours of a long-haul flight:

  • Under 2 Years Old: 70% of travelers say kids under 2 get antsy in the first two hours of the flight
  • 3-5 Years Old: 57% of travelers say kids 3-5 years old get antsy in the first 2 hours of a flight
  • 6-10 Years Old: 32% say of travelers say kids 6-10 years old get antsy in the first 2 hours of a flight, with another 50% saying this older group gets antsy between 2-4 hours into a flight

The survey found that parents serve a child’s favorite snacks as one of the top needed distraction.

Additionally, while kids across the U.S. reportedly get restless in the early parts of their flights, kids from Boston tend to be the antsiest flyers in the U.S., with 38% of respondents reporting kids under 2 and 24% of kids 6-10 years old are antsy as soon as the plane takes off.

Keeping kids busy on the ground can be tricky, let alone on a plane. The number one way to keep kids occupied during a long flight? People say devices are the best at keeping kids occupied across all age groups.

The most helpful methods across age groups include:

  • Under 5 Years Old: 57% of respondents say devices to watch movies, TV shows or videos are by far the most helpful, followed by devices to play games (17%) and activity books and toys (16%)
  • 6-10 Years Old: 96% of respondents say devices to watch movies, TV shows or videos and devices for games tie for being the most helpful in keeping kids content, but are followed closely by having snacks kids enjoy on hand (88%)

However, parental worry about keeping kids entertained through a flight isn’t created equal – Emirates survey found that flyers in Orlando, Houston, Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles are the most concerned about this issue when flying.

 Is this Seat Available?

It’s no secret that many people try to avoid sitting near kids to ensure peace and quiet during their flight. Emirates found that the average traveler’s willingness to sit next to kids depends on how long the trip is. It turns out that 61% of fliers would say no to sitting next to kids on a flight over 10 hours, and of that, men are actually more likely to agree to it (57%) than women are (64%).

While the West Coast is known for friendliness and the South for hospitality, residents in San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale are actually the least willing to sit next to kids on long-haul flights.

Here are Emirates’ Cabin Crew’s top tips for traveling children this vacation season:

  • For parents flying with babies, try to choose a flight that is as close as possible to their bedtime. This can help them sleep for a large part of the flight. Also, make sure you have sweets or a bottle of milk for babies/toddlers to suck on during take-off or descent, as they may have difficulty equalizing their ear pressure and feel uncomfortable. For small children, keep one new toy aside to give them mid-flight to ensure they don’t grow bored of the ones they already have. This will provide a fun, distracting surprise, and will keep them occupied longer than one of their old toys.
  • For kids of all ages, find ways to break up activities during the flight. Don’t depend solely on games or videos – pack a small puzzle, colouring book or interactive toy in addition to devices or in-flight entertainment systems, and use time between shows or movies to try something different.
  • When kids are awake, take brief strolls when they are already in good moods. This will help them stretch and break up the time between activities in their seats, and help prevent a restless-child meltdown.
  • When going through an airport, bookend your kids with one parent upfront and one taking the rear (if possible) to ensure you don’t lose any little stragglers along the way, and keep them moving quickly through checkpoints.

3 Years After Giving Birth, ‘The Walking Dead’s’ Alanna Masterson’s Still Fighting Body Shamers

The Walking Dead‘s Alanna Masterson has had to fight off body shaming trolls before when viewers mocked her pregnancy weight gain back in 2015 when she was expecting her first child.

We’re going on two years later and she is still fending off haters. The briefly left Instagram last Spring when she gave up battling with those who thought she was gaining weight. Producers hid her then-growing baby bump with chairs, props and her character, Tara, went on a serious long “supply run” and as missing for most of the final part of the sixth series and the beginning of the seventh season  during her maternity leave.

Masterson and her now 2-year old daughter Marlowe who she welcomed with her boyfriend Brick Stowell back in November 2015.

Masterson, who is the youngest sibling of actor big brothers including That 70s Show and The Ranch star Danny Masterson, returned to social media and about a week ago, left a very personal and poignant response to the haters:

“Why do people feel the need to pick on me because of how I look? Why do people keep calling me “fat” or “ugly”? I don’t understand.” she captioned a photo of herself laying on her side on a pillow facing the camera . “How much time do you have on your hands? Look around you. Look at what’s happening on our planet. Please, focus your energy on something POSITIVE. Instead of trolling people on social media, why not do something to HELP others. Would you ever say those things to a stranger? Face to face? Probably not.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BhACaVjguLl/

She continued:

“We have to stop letting our kids, peers, and elders get away with bullying. Stand up to it. Say something. Be the example. Teach EMPATHY. THIS is why kids harm themselves. THIS is why kids have low self esteem. THIS is why kids pick themselves apart in the mirror. STOP. My body is my body. I was born this way. I have stretch marks, lumps, bumps, cellulite and everything else in between. It’s ok. I am ok with it. I’m not skinny. I’m not fat. I’m not ugly. I’m not pretty. I’m just ME. And I make an effort to better myself and my body everyday. My family is healthy. I’m healthy. I’m extremely fortunate to be alive and breathing. So please, to any kid out there that feels uncomfortable in their own skin – don’t. You were created exactly how you were supposed to be. And I love you. ❤”

Well said. Recently, another co-star, Steven Ogg, unleashed on celeb trolls in a post-mortem interview following his character’s exit from the show this week, by way of the merciless Nagan.

That’s why Alanna’s post was so beautiful, because fuck off. Why are you harassing people?” Ogg told HuffPo. “Go fucking do something productive with your life.”

For the record, we love her body as is and think Alanna is GORGE!

Always bringing a bit of Marlowe with me. ❤

Where #STEM Took Us at the #SciFest 2018 Expo

I sojourned down to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC this past weekend as a guest of Razor to check out some of the various science, technology, engineering and math-related exhibits, stage shows, demonstrations and information being showcased to get children interested in these fields at the annual US Science and Engineering Expo. The event included exhibitors, performers, speakers, partners, sponsors and advisors for major academic centers, colleges and universities, leading research institutes, government agencies, cutting-edge high tech companies, museums and community organizations.

Oh and lots of science and tech camps! Here is an Official Map of the exhibitors, shows and presentations.

I took my eldest son, who is almost 16 and is interested in gaming and so much so, he is in the process of building his very own computer from scratch!

When we arrived mid afternoon on Saturday, April 7, inside, the 2.3K square foot convention hall which takes up three city blocks was electrifying and bustling with families, school kids, neighborhood and community groups in coordinated tops milling about in excitement.

Our first stop was our host Razor which agreed to generously gift us a Razor scooter and cool socks in advance of writing about our experience at the Expo.  All two days of the Expo, the Razor booth had a steady stream of fans stopping by to check out the latest products and innovation of the disruptive company that transformed the experience of scooters.

Reps  showed us the latest best seller, a pair of electric roller jets that go for themselves! Very cool! My how times have changed from my day of wearing plane metal roller skates on the streets of DC.

I was excited to learn that the scooters made by this top seller of skateboards, hoverboards, trikes and electric bikes have come. One of the more popular and newest products Razor sells these days is the Turbo Jets . They were on display anda brand ambassador wearing the crowd gathered around how to just start skating and then relax as the electric-powered heel wheels amp up to 80-watt, kicking the geared-drive motor that gives the user a boost.  The Jets can travel as fast at 10 mph. They looked relatively easy to use and appeared durable from my review and touch. Watch more  here:

SEE SOME OF THE VIDEOS HERE:

Another rep gave us a peek at how the spark pads, which are part of the Razor Spark Scooter’s braking mechanism, work. They give off real sparks when the user brakes! Very cool! It reminded me of the character Marty McFly’s Hoverboard in the 80s movie Back To The Future II.

Just so you know, she also shared with me that guests of the convention last weekend (and shhhhhh readers of this Blog too) can take advantage of 15% off using this coupon code. That’s a savings of close to $20 off the Turbo Jets which currently retail for $129 on the Razor website, bringing the cost down to a little over $100! That’s a steal. There is FREE shipping on all online orders through the website.

I’m not sure when the coupon code expires so hop on it fast!

Eldest and I then went on to enjoy the rest of the Expo, making stops through Physics Row, the NASA exhibit, some Nature Science displays and caught the last of the stage performances of the day, hip hop scientist Grand Hank.

I missed but would have loved to see Honda’s robot Asimo do a demonstration. Here is a video another attendee captured:

Other stage performanceswe  missed that day or that took place the next day include: Science Cheerleaders, Stunt Science showing behind-the-scenes of Spider-Man and Other Hollywood movies, Explosive Science, Mathemagician Art Benjamin, Explosive Science and more.

There was just too much to do and see in one day and in hindsight, I’m kicking myself for not starting earlier in the day so we could have gone downstairs to explore the expansive displays including College and Career row because it’s time for eldest to start exploring colleges. He is also interested in Robotics and there was an entire section on that area of tech.

On the way, we could have explored the halls that included the World Wildlife Foundation display, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Color of STEM Pavilion featuring Black Girl Code and Howard University. and the Lockheed Martin Orbit and Robo Lab, National Security and Homeland Security displays

Better luck and better planning NEXT YEAR!

Spring Clean Your Credit Report: How to Remove Negative History

Spring can be the time to get your financial house in order by examining your credit reports to remove any information that might not belong. Perhaps your address has changed. Or there are financial accounts you didn’t open.

 Some Specifics Worth a Sweep:

  • Delinquent payments more than 7 years old. Get ‘em tossed.
  • A bankruptcy more than 10 years. That’s gotta go.
  • Outdated personal information. If a name, address or contact information is incorrect – we can change it.
  • Unfamiliar credit inquires. If you didn’t initiate them, they can be disputed.

Correcting your Experian Credit Report can be easier than cleaning out your closet. If you spot something on your Experian Credit Report that you want to fixed, for example, the credit reporting firm has an improved Experian Dispute Center that it says makes it easier than ever. Now you can submit disputes from your smart device or desktop.

Consider seasonal cleaning of your credit report, too. It’s a good idea to examine your credit reports from all three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax,  & TransUnion®) quarterly, especially since data breaches and identity fraud are on the rise.

Using the Experian dispute center, consumers can:

  • Get their Experian credit report
  • Follow contextual links designed to help them better understand and access various sections of their report
  • Upload photos of supporting materials directly from their smartphone
  • Receive timely alerts updating them on the current status of their active disputes
  • Sort and view the accounts listed on their credit report by alphabetical order, date opened or status, and filter by categories such as collections or installment loans

To obtain a free Experian credit report and submit a dispute, visit http://www.experian.com/disputes.

For more information about the dispute process, read the frequently asked questions at http://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/credit-education/faqs/disputes-faqs.
