Shay Mitchell: Hiding Pregnancy Caused Pre-Partum Depression

“Pretty Little Liars” star Shay Mitchell did not reveal her pregnancy publicly for nearly six months, a period of isolation that she said left her in a “severe depression.”

“I think it’s really interesting that pre-partum depression or feelings of isolation in pregnancy are not more vastly discussed,” Mitchell, 32, said in a newspaper  interview with the maternity lifestyle brand Hatch. “Feeling that I was alone in my depression compounded my state of mind, but [I] have found since sharing the news publicly that many women feel as I did.”

“Pregnancy can be a hard time, especially if you’re having to hide it,” she said. “After I came out publicly, I felt an enormous wave of relief and was finally able to start enjoying the pregnancy.

Watch Erica Mena and Safaree’s Fun Gender Non Reveal Video

Before the birth of their first child together, the married VH1 stars of the hit show Love and Hip Hop  Safaree and Erica Mena performed a series of gender reveals to find out whether they’re having a boy or girl.

In the set of stringed-together shorts, they try three very popular gender reveal tactics to determine if they are having a boy or girl for their first child together. First, they cut open a white frosted several-layered cake hoping to see a pink or blue colored inside but no luck!

There is a set of different colored layers of a rainbow cake. Womp Womp Womp!!! Next up…the balloon reveal. Will this trick reveal the baby’s sex or no?

A bunch of white balloons drift out when they open it together at the count of 3 so… no luck there, either. Their banter is pretty funny in between each “reveal.” Finally, they dry the usual poppers which usually stream out pink or blue confetti if done right.  But for the Samuels, they get a bunch of tiny bills flowing out! Not “tiny” as in $1s but as in miniature bills! ha!

It’s a fun reveal and in the end, we still do not know. Stay tuned!

Love & Hip Hop New York follows the lives and relationships of hip-hop artists as they make their mark on the Big Apple. The cast includes the outspoken Joe Budden, Cyn Santana, Remy Ma, Papoose, Juelz Santana, Kim “Kimbella” Vanderhee and more.

Why Hilaria Baldwin Revealed her 5th Pregnancy at 6 Weeks Pregnant

Hilaria Baldwin is expecting her fifth child with her husband Alec Baldwin.

This time, the celebrity yoga instructor chose to share the news when she was barely one month along. Traditional wisdom and advice from doctors say moms-to-be should wait  until three months or until the baby’s heartbeat can be heard before announcing the news.

By that time, the risk of miscarriage false tremendously.

When you’ve had so many babies, 6 minutes pregnant = looking like 6 months pregnant,” the yoga instructor joked about her tiny protruding belly while announcing the pregnancy.

When one of her fans asked why she decided to reveal this news so early, Hilaria replied that after having a miscarriage in April, she did not want to wait to answer speculation from fans.

“People poke around and try to find out what is going on,” she said. “When you simply share what is happening, you take the story into your own hands and they tend to leave you alone more. Secrets are only interesting when they are secrets. Reports of my belly growing or my appearance changing spark rumors. That brings attention.”

She continued, “Me coming out and saying what is going on gets the news out there … then they move on to the next story. It’s been something I’ve learned over the past decade … this is one of the reasons I’m so active on social media. The news can take images for free from my page rather than paying a paparazzi to come follow me.”

She and Alec marreid in 2012 and started a family right away in 2013 with the birth of their oldest daughter, Carmen Gabriela, followed by son Rafael Thomas, another son Leonardo Angel Charles in 2016, and 1-year-old son Romeo Alejandro David, born last year.

Alec has a 23-year old daughter named Ireland from his first marriage to actress Kim Basinger.

In June, Hilaria told People, “Why not keep going? They’re my favorite things in the world so why not? I never expected to have a big family but since we signed on to it, at this point, why not? Why not keep going?”

There you go! Congrats and good luck!

New Moms Alysson Felix, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price, Others Win Gold, Set Records at World Track Championships

New  Moms Alysson Felix and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price made major comebacks by winning gold and setting multiple records this week at the the World Track and Field Championships!

The fact that both sprinters delivered their babies via C-Sections which tear the core muscles is a testament to their hard work.

“For 10 weeks, I couldn’t lift weights (while lying) on my back,” Fraser-Pryce told  the LA Times. “And mentally, it’s even harder because you’re 30, you’re having a baby, the females are out there running fast. You wonder if you can come back. For me, I just worked really hard.”

Felix’s baby came two months prematurely and spent around a month in the neonatal intensive-care unit.

“It puts things in perspective,” Felix said.

It was only months prior that she was among the Nike sponsored athletes speaking out about the company’s treatment of pregnant elite athletes.

Felix, who joined long distance runner Alysia Montano and the US Women’s Soccer Team in their crusade for equal pay and rights, inspired the other female moms who competed this past Sunday night as LA Times summarized:

Christian Taylor, who won his third straight triple-jump world championship .

And pole vaulter Anzhelika Sidorova of Russia, who cleared 4.95 meters to beat American Sandi Morris for the gold…

Another mother won gold in the women’s 20-kilometer walk early Monday morning. Liu Hong of China took the 2017 and 2018 seasons off to have a child before returning triumphantly in 2019. She led a Chinese podium sweep.

Another gold medalist was Courtney Okolo — Felix’s 25-year-old relay teammate.

“A victory for motherhood!” Jamaica’s Fraser-Pryce said  of her win. At age 32, she became the oldest woman to win an Olympic or world 100m title, two years after having her first child, Zyon.

She carried Zyon with her while taking her victory lap. Fraser-Pryce said she sat on her bed and cried the day she found out she was pregnant and soon heard calls that is was time for her to retire.

Perish the thought!

“The females keep showing up,” Fraser-Pryce said on the BBC while holding Zyon across her chest. “Hoping that I can give inspiration to all the women who are thinking about starting a family or currently starting a family and wondering if they can come back.”

The last mom to win the big 100M race was America’s Gwen Torrence back in  1995.

Fraser-Pryce told her story of motherhood to Goldccomeback to NBC News:

“When I found out I was pregnant, I was sitting on my bed for like two hours, and I didn’t go to practice in the morning because I didn’t know what to do,” Fraser-Pryce said. “I made a vow that I was coming back.”

On Aug. 6, 2017, Fraser-Pryce watched the world women’s 100m final on TV. “I remember sitting there, and I went into labor because I was watching the race,” she said. “So I had my son the next day, like in the evening during the medal [ceremony]. So that was my gold medal.”

Zyon came via C-section on Aug. 7, 2017. Fraser-Pryce went three or four months before lifting a weight. Once she returned to the track, she skipped practices here or there due to pain.

“I wouldn’t trade it for anything else,” she said. “Because it has definitely made me tougher, and stronger and more committed.”

In her first meet back in 2018, Fraser-Pryce clocked 11.52 seconds, eight tenths off her best. She raced eight times before breaking 11 again, all while breastfeeding for the first 15 months.

This year, she’s run in the 10.7s a total of four times, becoming the fastest mom in history. Her coach told her earlier that she’s still not all the way back.

“Zyon has been my strength, my family, my husband, they have been my strength,” she said. “When everybody else doubted, they never did.”

Wow! Moms win again!

He also gave a shout-out to his 8-month-old daughter, Lucia, who stayed with her grandma. Martin called her “the light of my life.”

Swedish Climate Advocate Greta Thunberg Poetically Re-frames Autism and Neurotypical Diagnoses

“You are never too small to make a difference” is a quote attributed to 16-year old Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg who has been leading youth climate strikes for the past few years, including “Fridays for Future,” a global movement that encourages students to walk out of their classrooms against inaction toward climate change.

Thunberg has become an activist celebrity and  been in the US for the last week and a half after docking in  New York in late August following a two-week voyage aboard a solar-powered sailboat which is an eco friendly alternative to flying.

The inspirational young leader also stands out because she has Asperger’s, a highly functioning form of Autism,  but has chosen in recent years to embrace the neurological diversity as her ‘Superpower”, as she has described it.

She has poetically described how the diagnosis aids in her work.

During an interview with  CBS This Morning earlier in the month, Thunberg  remarked of the condition, “it can definitely be an advantage to have some kind of neurotypical diagnosis, to be neurodiverse, because that makes you different, that makes you think differently.”

And of course, that is  exactly what the doctor has ordered in this era where children are literally taking over where adults are failing to lead!

“Especially in such a big crisis like this, when we need to think outside the box,” Thunberg told the show. “We need to think outside our current system, we need people who think outside the box and who aren’t like everyone else.”

She has also used her very large platform on social media, including Instagram where she boasts over 6 million followers, to respond to  the“haters” who have come after her for the way she looks or acts.

“When haters go after your looks and differences, it means they have nowhere left to go. And then you know you’re winning!” she captioned an Instagram caption posted in September.”I have Asperger’s syndrome and that means I’m sometimes a bit different from the norm. And given the right circumstances, being different is a superpower.”

When haters go after your looks and differences, it means they have nowhere left to go. And then you know you’re winning! I have Asperger’s syndrome and that means I’m sometimes a bit different from the norm. And – given the right circumstances – being different is a superpower. I'm not public about my diagnosis to "hide" behind it, but because I know many ignorant people still see it as an "illness", or something negative. And believe me, my diagnosis has limited me before. Before I started school striking I had no energy, no friends and I didn’t speak to anyone. I just sat alone at home, with an eating disorder. All of that is gone now, since I have found a meaning, in a world that sometimes seems meaningless to so many people. #aspiepower #neurodiverse #npf

She hasn’t always been so open.

“I’m not public about my diagnosis to ‘hide’ behind it, but because I know many ignorant people still see it as an ‘illness,’ or something negative,” she continued. “And believe me, my diagnosis has limited me before. Before I started school striking I had no energy, no friends, and I didn’t speak to anyone. I just sat alone at home, with an eating disorder.”

She concluded, “All of that is gone now, since I have found a meaning in a world that sometimes seems meaningless to so many people.”

Love it!

Celebrities are Like Us: Wanda Sykes Had Finishing Summer Reading Anxiety too {VIDEO}

Celebrities are like us: They stress over getting their children to finish their Summer readings lists too.

All Summer, I lamented over on my private Facebook page with friends over the stress of children to read their assigned books before the start of the new year and it looks like 2x 2019 Emmy-nominated comedian Wanda Sykes could relate.

The funny woman stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres daytime talk show recently and shared some insights into her own personal anxiety over the dreaded end of Summer crunch!

“The summer reading was kicking our butts,” Sykes shared with DeGeneres about how she and her wife Alex Sykes tackled kids Olivia and Lucas’ Summer Reading list. “I wish I could just trust my kids [and be like], ‘Hey, here’s the list. You’ve got to read these books.’”

Nope! Not so lucky! So when she discovered her son Lucas was behind, Sykes she did what I did with my 11- year old daughter, (also per her teacher’s recommendation): Read to him!

“I had to read three books this summer with them,” the celebrity mom revealed. “When it got close, like school was about to start [for them], I was like, ‘I’ve still got two hundred pages to cover.’ So I’m reading to them while they’re sleeping, hoping it will sink in. It was a mess.”

Skyes was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards for Variety Show (Taped) and Writing for a Variety Special for her Netflix standup, Wanda Sykes: Not Normal.
