VIRAL: ‘Stop Asking Women When are They Getting Pregnant’ Sign

An Instagram post by Toronto, Canada-based Event Planner Barbara Nkansah went viral and has been re-shared because it simply states: “Stop Asking Women When are They Getting Pregnant”.

In it, the Ghanaian-Canadian shares the hurt of being newly married and having to endure probing questions and insensitive remarks from well-meaning family and friends.

“I remember being newly married and the first thing people started doing instead of greeting me was look right at my belly,” she shared. “Then when they noticed I was not pregnant, the look of confusion following ‘oh you’re not pregnant yet?’ would be their conversation starter.

“I will never forget when just after 3 months of marriage church service ended and a member in the church who saw me yelled at the top of her lungs in front of everyone saying ‘BARBARA YOU’RE STILL NOT PREGNANT YET. WHEN WILL YOU GET PREGNANT? YOU’RE TAKING TOO LONG.'”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs_Fy2Jg1K5/

The statistics are jarring.

One in 8 couples have a hard time getting pregnant and at least 1 in 4 will experience a pregnancy loss.

People who are trying to conceive are fed up and would like you to stop asking them when they are going to have children or even worse, “why don’t they have children.”

In the celebrity world, Gabrielle Union and Chrissy Teigen recalled being asked this question constantly because they were with their spouses for several years without producing children and people just couldn’t stop asking a very personal, imposing and insensitive question.

Little did they know that each couple were indeed trying but failing at it.

Please stop asking women (AND MEN!) when they are having kids or, even worse, why they don’t have children. ⁣

I remember the words of Assistant Professor Rondrea Danielle from Bethune-Cookman College on Facebook last year:

“Getting pregnant is hard.

Sustaining pregnancy is hard.

Giving birth is hard.

Raising a baby is hard.

So asking folks why they don’t have kids is both inconsiderate and insensitive (it also isn’t your business), and it needs to stop now.

We have no idea how much women go through to get pregnant and then bring a baby into the world.”

Conduct a Google Search and you’ll encounter dozens of articles from women and lifestyle and advice sites about this very topic and also demanding that they not be asked the question when they gain weight.

Phew!

PRIDE: Celebrity Parents Supporting LGBTQ Children; Raising Gender Neutral Kids

This PRIDE month, several celebrities have come forward in social media to support their LGBTQ kids, an act which is uncommon for younger children, though dozens have show public support of their adult LGBTQ kids.

Others like Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie have been either vocal or public with their choice to permit their children to gravitate towards a non-binary or gender-fluid identity.

Back in April, NBA player Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union cheered on Wade’s son and Union’s stepson, Zion, 11, while he walked in the annual Miami Beach Pride march.

Though the basketball star was busy in Toronto playing against the Raptors at the time, he shared Union’s photo on his Instagram accounts, beaming with pride.

“We support each other with Pride,” Wade wrote on Instagram over a photo of Zion and Union.

Also that month,  Charlize confirmed that her 7-year old adopted chilld Jackson is trans. At the time, she told The Daily Mail that now she has “two beautiful daughters.”

“My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be,” she said. “And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.”

Theron adopted Jackson when just 3-years old and daughter August as an infant.

Marlon Wayans, star of White Chicks  and other movies shared a photo of his daughter, Amai, wearing rainbow-soled sneakers on Instagram on Sunday, June 2. (Wayans also shares son Shawn, 17, with ex-wife Angelica Zachary.)

“Happy pride to my pride and joy,” he captioned the photo. “I wouldn’t change one effing thing about you. Love you to the moon around the sun through the galaxies and back again.”

He had to clap back against trolls who didn’t like his decision to outwardly and openly support his daughter which you can read about in US Weekly here.

Although neither Angelina Jolie nor her ex husband Brad Pitt have spoken publicly about their 12-year old daughter Shiloh Pitt, it is rumored and believed Shiloh is transgender.

Jolie dressed Shiloh in gender neutral clothing as a child and now she is much older, she makes her own fashion decisions, which often include more masculine fashion choices such as short haircuts, suits with ties, loose shirts, and pants.

Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard said her daughter Beatrice’s gender was unclear for a while and in 2017 she told PEOPLE magazine,“She was bald for a very long time, and so gender [was] a little unclear,” the actress told People in 2017. “But that was fine, and there was no problem. I really wanted to wait for her to lead me in a certain direction.”

Singer Pink is outspoken about many things, and one of them is how she chooses to raise her daughter, Willow. “We are a very label-less household,” she told the Sunday People in 2017. “Last week Willow told me she is going to marry an African woman. I was like, ‘Great, can you teach me how to make African food?’ And she’s like, ‘Sure mama, and we are going to live with you while our house is getting ready.’”

Celeb Mamas Slayed 2019’s Met Gala Pink Carpet

This year’s annual gala to celebrate the opening of a new exhibit at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of the Arts, was more over the top than ever before.

Perhaps because the theme was “Camp”, maybe, celebrities brought extra extravagance and bold and gregarious fashion and antics.

The official theme of the Met’s 2019 was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and celebrates the newest exhibit which is inspired by Susan Sontag‘s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

I think Lady Gaga might have won with her theatrics that included he unraveling and revealing of not one but four looks by designer, with the assistance of a small army of flamboyant but meticulous handlers.

Cardi B’s presentation and actor Billy Porter’s were quite spectacular and so much so, I almost forgot previous mega head turners Rihanna, Beyoncé, Madonna and third-time mom-to-be Blake Lively were conspicuously missing.

My fave looks were by women who are not yet moms (per this is a celebrity pregnancy blog so they focus is on moms)

First was singer and Endgame actress Hailee Steinfield

My second fave was Lupita Nyong’o who is stunning!

And of course, we saw lots of the celebrity moms we have featured on Bellyitch who each brought their total A game to the party and did it up right!

I am proud of myself for having the institution memory to have been able to recognize all of these beautiful moms without reading the caption to see who they are. Woot.

‘Shah’s of Sunset’ MJ Javid Silences Her ‘Fake Pregnancy’ Trolls

Several celebs have been trolled by people on the internet who are convinced they are not really pregnant but faking it while a surrogate really carries their child. Beyonce, Danielle Jonas, Meghan Markle and Kenya Moore have had to dodge fake pregnancy rumors during and after delivery.

Bravo TV star of Shahs of Sunset Mercedes “MJ” Javid is the latest.

The 46-year old is pregnant with her first child, a son, after undergoing in vitro fertilization.

The real estate biz owner has been on bedrest for the most part of her later stages of pregnancy following a few complications but despite giving fans glimpses of her baby bump on her Instagram page, she is still routinely harassed by many to show a mirror selfie of it while standing up.

The maternity shoot which is featured exclusively in PEOPLE magazine today should do the trick to get them off her back, according to a recent post.

“Thank you @people for such beautiful coverage of our baby journey thus far,” she captioned a photo from the shoot which featured multiple images of her in lingerie, and with her belly bare and clearly visible. “As I continue to share my experience with families with whom I share this life goal, I hope my experience provides support, hope and positive thinking for others.”

She continued: “Today, I am grateful to my husband and family for the incredible support I’ve received in getting us this far. I know we have so much more ahead. I am blessed to work with incredible photographer, @shannonlaurine and my glam squad, @brandonliberati and @makeupbymarine all of which together we celebrate the female form during this incredible God given opportunity ? #bumpalert

She addressed the body shaming and fake pregnancy accusations in the magazine.

“A lot of people on social [media] have already come at me for faking my pregnancy,” she says, saying for example, “My face doesn’t look pregnant, my nose doesn’t look swollen, my bump isn’t big enough, I am using a surrogate, I am making this up for attention.”

But she’s staying strong.

“I don’t mind the shaming, I just think it’s very odd that so many people would think a woman would make a choice to lie about something so important,” she explained. “I think if I get mom shamed, I’m not going to care … if anyone wants to mom shame or bully someone in general, they should bully me because I won’t be affected.”

You’d think that would be the end of it. Nope!

The photo garnered a lot of attention but did not stop folks in the comment section a.k.a. the peanut gallery from criticizing the photo edits, and some still said it wasn’t her real belly.

So..she felt the need to follow up with a non-glam bump photo for the haters.

“And a no filter, no make up, no suntan, at home baby bump selfie, to shut down all the haters who have a problem with a woman getting out of bed after 3 and a half months of bed rest to get a little hair and make up for her maternity photos. ?” she captioned a selfie photo in sweats at home.

She previously addressed the hounding on an Instagram Live, ask me anything session with fans.

” My due date is on May 11 and people are saying ‘Why aren’t I showing, why I aren’t I showing?’ I think that it’s a combination of two things: the first thing is that people don’t always show when they’re only 19 weeks, which is where I’m at. Number two: I’m not stick thin,” she said. “I think that from the side I’m definitely thicker and that I’m getting there, but I don’t think that people always show that early.”

You cannot please people so it’s better off not trying. I don’t know how celebs do it being constantly judged and picked apart.

Wait until that baby comes. She can see how folks are tearing into new moms like Chrissy Teigen, Kenya Moore, Gabrielle Union and now Porsha Williams to get a taste at the levels of unsolicited advice and shaming in store.

Oy! Good luck, MJ!

Celebrity Halloween 2018 Costumes (PHOTOS *UPDATED*)

Every year, celebrities go above and beyond to give superb portrayals for Halloween. This year did not disappoint. Here is a quick rundown of my faves including some from our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums like Ciara, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Jaime King and more.

Kylie Jenner recreated the Barbie in a box. It was one of several costumes she wore this season. She went as a Butterfly in a mommy and me photo with her daughter and as a Victoria Secret Angel group costume with her sisters. (see below)

The winner might be Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner killed as Gomez and Morticia Addams complete with Thing on his shoulder! Best hands down in my opinion this year!

oh I think Heidi Klum as Princess Fiona and Tom Kaulitz as Shrek as  is up there too!

Alicia Keys went over the top but in a good way as a Ninja. I mean, she had her entire costume as part of a movie poster and all with the credits including her children and husband.

Beyonce paid homage and tribute to Lil Kim last  year and this year, she went with another icon: Toni Braxton. She dressed as the pop crooner’s cover album for “Another Sad Love Song.

Actress, former model Jaime King dolled it up as Joan of Arc at Just Jared’s Halloween party presented by Carls Jr.

Ciara‘s costume portrayal of Black Panther heroine Nakia from Black Panther is 10X Levels Up! She did Wakanda right!

Crazy Rich Asians actor Harry Shum Jr. was boss as Eric Draven from the 1994 film The Crow,!

I wanted to go as Ariana Grande this year but I don’t think anyone did her better than Kourtney Kardashian did!

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend killed as Queen Elizabeth the II and Prince Phillip.

Winnie Harlowe as RuPaul

Bella Hadid and the Weeknd dress as Beetlejuice and Lydia when going to Heidi Klum’s Halloween party on October 31, 2018 in New York City. (Photo by Jackson Lee/GC Images)

Padma Lakshmi at Heidi Klum’s 19th Annual Halloween Party as The Black Swan

Kat Graham at Heidi Klum’s 19th Annual Halloween Party presented by Party City and SVEDKA Vodka  (Photo by Noam Galai/Getty Images for Heidi Klum)

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson as Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwazzeneger in “Twins”

Kelly Clarkson as a penguin and Jennifer Hudson as Catwoman

The Kardashian/Jenner girls were blessed to have Victoria’s Secret loan them actual angel wings so they can dress as true Angels for Halloween.

My fave is Kourt’s because she is tiny and the oldest

Bethenny Frankel could have joined the sisters because she too dressed as a Vicky Sec angel this year.

The Ladies of The Real TV talk show dressed up as iconic TV talk show hosts. Tamera Mowry-Housley was Tyra Banks. Jeannie Mae went as Ellen Degeneres. Loni Love dressed as Oprah Winfrey and Adrienne Houghton as Sally Jessy Raphael.

The TODAY show traditionally go all out for Halloween. This  year, I was thoroughly impressed by Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer dressed as Marty McFly and Doc Brown From Back to the Future.

Kelly Ripa is usually a show stopper wearing a variety of looks and costumes each Halloween with her hosts throughout the years, Regis, Michael Strahan and now with Ryan Secrest. They did a bunch of 80s TV show characters this year. She did it up as as Vicki the Robot From Small Wonder.

The two of them portrayed Jeannie and Major Nelson From I Dream of Jeannie.

And one of my fave shows: Laverne and Shirley‘s Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney.

Seacrest came out in a small model car like the one Ricky Stratton From Silver Spoons owned and drove in the opening sequence to that show.

Kelly Ripa, Ryan Seacrest, and Art More as a modern twist on the Friends Cast.

I loved Disney Channel stars Jenna Ortega and Asher Angel as Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson. I asked my husband to go as this duo to a Halloween party we were going to and he said no. Boo!

Monica is another celebrity that puts a lot of work into her Halloween costume every single year. She dressed as Johnny Depp‘s portrayal of the Mad Hatter.

Sarah Michelle Gellar looked hot as as Harley Quinn.

Adrienne Bosh could barely be made out in her Halloween Insta share as a Ghoulish Ghost.

One of my faves because of how close to the original it was is Madison Pettis from Nickelodeon‘s Cory in the House as Coachella Beyonce

Also loved Gwen Stefani as Sally From Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Speaking of which! Gabriel Union did a great job dressing as Stefani in No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” video before heading out to her birthday party.

No. Doubt. @gwenstefani

Yellow, Gold and Celestial Beings at Met Ball 2018 Red Carpet (PHOTOS)

So the annual fundraising gala to mark the opening of the new Spring exhibit at The Metropolitan Gallery of Art in New York City went down last night.

As with this event every years, guests are asked to come dressed according to the theme of the new exhibit: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination. This year’s official hosts were Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Amal Clooney (above in Richard Quinn) and Donatella Versace (who dressed a lot of the attendees this year)

With a theme like that not only do you expect some backlash at what could be expected as a parade of sacrilegiousness, but you sorely expect some interpretations of Angels, the Virgin Mary, the Pope and Cardinals! They all were there last night too.

We just cover the moms and other celeb women we have frequently covered starting with two moms-to-be:  Homeland star Claire Danes who is expecting her second child with husband Hugh Dancy and rapper and reality TV star Cardi B who is expecting her first child with her fiance rapper Offset.

Danes wore a custom floor-length empire waist Marni precious duchesse  red, magenta and caramel color block gown paired with Marni Monile handbag  and multicolour platform sandals.

Cardi looked regal in a custom golden bejeweled white Moschino gown. She was accompanied to the event by designer Jeremy Scott though her fiancé was there with the other two members of his group, Migos.

Of our other Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums, we noticed a few trends within the theme.

Gold was one. Kerry Washington in a gorgeous floor-length Ralph Lauren dress with her afro serving as a halo! Evan Rachel Wood, Kim Kardashian-West in Versace and Irina Shayk.

We saw structure, ornateness and royal crimson in Solange‘s Iris Van Harper ensemble, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez‘s spectacular Balmain modern take on Joan of Arc and Scarlett Johanssson

Yellow was a prevalent theme and color and everyone wearing it last night looked stunning including Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren, Huma Abedin and Gabrielle Union in Prabal Gurung dress, Tasaki jewels, Stuart Weitzman shoes and a Tyler Ellis clutch.

Anne Hathaway went with volume in her  Valentino gown which she paired did James Banks earrings, a The Code bracelet and Jimmy Choo heels.

Meanwhile, Gisele Bundchen did old Hollywood glam but in an environmentally friendly way by working with Versacd to repurpose an old dress.

“Thank you @versace for working so hard to make me an eco dress. The fabric and lining used are both 100% organic silk ecologically dyed, the threads are 100% organic cotton and everything is certificated as GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard,” she captioned a photo of herself in the dress before heading out to the ball.

Kylie Jenner made her first official official red carpet appearance in a black velvet Alexander Wang gown with Chopard jewelry with her beau rapper Travis Scott since the two welcomed their first child together, daughter Storming

Uma Thurman was accompanied to the event by Maya Hawke, her daughter with Ex Ethan Hawke and  donned a white Gabriela Hearst dress, Giampiero Bodino jewelry, and Manolo Blahnik heels

Most people played it safe but understandingly so because they probably didn’t want to cross the line and have to dodge lightning bolts! ha!

Airing Tonight: VH1’s Mother’s Day Tribute Show ‘Dear Mama: A Love Letter To Moms’

annual Mother’s Day special “Dear Mama: A Love Letter To Moms” co-hosted by Black’ish‘s Anthony Anderson and Power‘s La La Anthony. The event features celebrities who make poetic, song or other tender presentations and tributes to their respective mothers followed with a performance by a celebrity  performer.

Celebrity guests and participants of the event, which took place at Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, California, include our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Teyana TayloSean “Diddy” Combs, Colin Kaepernick, a red carpet fave Gabrielle Union, Ne-Yo, Jhené Aiko, Bobby Brown, Jessie J and Patti LaBelle. The e

Viewers will see the co-hosts stimulate the audience with their banter and commentary on today’s political climate, sparking laughs and nods of approval from the audience.

During the event, Taylor welcomes her mother, Nikki, and acknowledges the tremendous impact that she made in Taylor’s life before welcoming surprise guest Bobby Brown to the stage.

Gabrielle Union also will be seen tonight showering her mom Theresa with praise and thanking her for raising Gabrielle in a home filled with love, learning and acceptance before surprising her mom with an appearance by award-winning recording artist Ne-Yo who performs a medley of his hit singles “Good Man” and “Miss Independent.”

Jhené Aiko will be joined on stage by her daughter Namiko Love to perform a poem for her mother, and sing a song that they wrote together, “Sing To Me.”

Finally, guests also got to enjoy singer-songwriter’s Jessie J’s sweet tribute to her mother, Rose, who encouraged her to write music that stands the test of time. The phenom introduces her newest song “Queen” before getting the crowd on their feet with her rendition of the iconic hit “I’m Every Woman.”

After joking that his mom Teresa didn’t know what football was until he got to college, Colin Kaepernick talks about what his life was like growing up in a world where the privilege of his parents did not always protect him. He praises his mom for doing everything she could to give him the best possible life and says that she “chose [him]” and she’s “stuck with [him]!” Teresa joins him on stage, since “moms always have the final word” and says that Colin was always a wonderful son, student and athlete, and she’s overwhelmed with pride, even if he “doesn’t call his mom enough!”

In a sweet video message, Sean “Diddy” Combs and five of his children talk about all the things they love most about their “Mimi,” and Diddy takes the stage to recognize the tremendous sacrifice that his mom Janice made to ensure that he always had everything he needed.

For his final surprise, Diddy introduces music legend Patti LaBelle for a show-stopping performance of “You Are My Friend.”
